Eliquis Reviews
UpdatedMy 91 year old Mom was switched to Eliquis and has been totally exhausted and suffering from confusion and memory loss. Anyone else having the confusion/memory loss issue?
Hello, Freddie! How is your mom doing?
Yes, those are known side effects of taking Eliquis, along with bruising, fainting and headache. Side effects should start to taper off in severity after about 4 weeks, as her body adjusts to the medication. But if they don't, or if they worsen, her doctor should be consulted.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Yes, my 88 year old husband has been on Eliquis since July and he is experiencing major confusion, and I believe even had a night terror. When I carefully skip a dose he regains his usual mental state back. It's very frustrating as the doctors aren't listening to my reports...
Hi. Thanks for the reply. My mom has been on Eliquis for months and the confusion is just getting worse. Doctors say it is not a side effect but I think it is time to be more vocal.
Thanks
Hi Again,
The doctors just don't want to "hear" it...so stay strong! My husband has been off it a few days and he's almost back to his normal self. He isn't afraid or confused anymore...difference between night and day. Eliquis is a new drug and I don't believe all the side effects are in...but I'd won't be shocked if hallucinations, confusion and anxiety are added soon. I'll think good thoughts for you and your Mom. Be well and happy.
Thanks Gael. I am calling today to have the doctor change her back to Coumadin. I will keep you posted. Thank you for your support.
Others have seen hallucations as well? My mother has been on this med for 3 days and it has been terrible!!
My Mom has now been off Eliquis for about two weeks. Although her memory is still not great the confusion has gone and she said she no longer feels like her head is in a bubble. Glad to have her back on Coumadin. Thanks for all of your replies.
Very welcome, Freddie! I'm glad she's doing better!
Donna, how is your mom doing?
Yes, my mum keeps telling us that she has an unclear head and is constantly tired. Doctors just disregard any of these problems. Her memory is now shocking. The whole family are concerned about her.
Hi Anne. My Mom has been back on Coumadin for a couple of months now and I see a big difference. She is close to 92 so her memory is still not great but greatly improved and no more confusion. I am very glad we switched back. Good luck
Freda
I've advised my mother to go back on old medication since reading all the comments on this site. I'm so annoyed that her doctors have not listened to anything we've said. I just it's not too late for her memory to return to normal, she's been on Eliquis for about 9 months and has been slowly getting worse. Thanks to everyone for posting on this site, it's opened my eyes.
Anne, if it due to the medication, then things will most likely return to normal, but it may take a month or so, of her being off of it for the side effects to taper off.
Which medication is she taking, now?
My mum was taking Warfarin for years and never a problem. I'm not sure why her doctor changed her to Eliquis apart from not having to have fortnightly blood tests to check on levels etc. Her confusion and memory loss are getting worse month by month. I've told her she's to see her GP and demand she be put back on Warfarin again. I'm again so thankful that I found this site and read all your comments. Thanks everyone. Will certainly keep you posted on mum's condition in the coming months. Anne (Australia).
You're very welcome, Anne and I hope she feels better very soon!
I am 64 and have taken eliquis for a little over a year, lately I have been having night terrors, screaming and shouting in my sleep. It is getting worse and I am worried. Almost every night. Could this be a side effect of eliquis. I never did this until I started the drug.
Hi, Freddie, my 94 year old mom is on Eliquis, since December 2015.. and I am noticing her getting more confused and tiredness. The doctors don't seem to think this is a problem. I do, I wished I could find a doctor that would listen and maybe reduce the dosage or wean her off this. I'm afraid to reduce it myself. but she is not doing well. she takes 5 different meds plus potassium plus a iron pill. It's all a little to much for me to handle. She was more active before she had heart trouble now sh sleeps half the day. Thanks for telling your story.
I am 75 years young. I switched from Pradaxa to eliquis 6 weeks ago (possible for safety's sake). I am experiencing what I call significant memory loss. Eliquis is the only new drug I have introduced to my medications. I am an RN. I started doing some research and found this website. I am going to call my cardiologist and go back on the Pradaxa for a month, and see if I there is any improvement.
My mom (94) has been on Eliquis since Dec..I'm noticing more confusion and decision making and sleeping too. I now see this maybe the cause. Thanks for sharing
My mother is 89 and has been diagnosed with A-Fib. She has been prescribed Eliquis for possible blood clots. She is complaining about dizziness, but most of all nausea. Will this go away?
My Dad 94 has been on Eliquis for a few years. He recently had to go to emergency room for UTI with hematuria. He's at rehab Ctr and they are taking him off Eliquis cold turkey as hematuria won't go away. In addition he has weakness in legs that started around same time. I'm curious to see what happens with no eliquis.

If you read all these comments I would think it would scare you! If my Dr would try to put me on it again I would refuse.
I started Eliquis 5 mg and immediately had issues! I was taking it due to a blood clot in my leg! I couldn’t eat! I had no appetite which was the very first time in my life that had ever happened! I lost 15 lbs. in a month. Everything tasted bad and texture bothered me. My teeth ached the whole time I was on it and still do. All I could eat for a month was ramen and Mac and cheese. I have gradually gotten better and am getting off it now. My Dr and pharmacist looked it up and said those aren’t symptoms of Eliquis, but it was the only thing I changed! Has anyone had these symptoms?

Hey I saw your post. I’m on Eliquis and experiencing uti like symptoms with the constant urge to go and urethra soreness. I got tested for uti and yeast and both negative. Do you have those symptoms as well?
Anyone experience uti-like symptoms on Eliquis? Tested for uti and negative. It doesn’t burn but there's a constant urge to go and urethra pain.
My 79 year old husband started having very bad confusion 6 months ago after taking Eloquis for his A fib.His speech is also getting worse.
Can u take eliquis with a BMI over 40? I am taking warfarin now and would like to switch but my dr says no and I know 2 people who are on it.
My 81 yr old mother started taking Eliquis about 6 mos ago. She has developed delusional thinking. She will be having a normal conversation and then she says something that I absolutely know to be untrue ! For example: A news crew was at the house interviewing her.
Yes my mom is 95 now and has been on this med for 2 years. she has more memory loss, confusion and weakness. doctors do not want to take her off. I feel she will do better with aspirin. my mother does have a-fib and she needs a blood thinner, but this has so many side effects. Not sure what the alternative would be???? I'm very concerned and I feel the doctors will not do anything about it. I've asked others about their experiences a couple years ago as well.
Re: Jeanne (# 29)
Are you taking a baby aspirin or the 80(ish)mgs? I do not want to take this stuff. Please tell me an aspirin will save me?
Regarding Eliquis and frequent urinating, no it's not in your head. It actually acts like a diuretic. I take my first dose of 5mgs in the morning and remain put because I will have to pee for the next hour or so then all is o.k. However, my bedtime dose is a much different thing, going from perhaps once to the loo, it could be 3-4 times all with very large amounts of urine. Then there is the sweating in my head and neck area without a doubt linked to this drug along with feeling tired but can't sleep; total sleep is about 2-3 hours per night. Would really appreciate it if anyone can tell me how often does your g.p (doc) arrange for your Renal Function to be carried out? I was originally told every year but 2 years since I had blood work done. I know it's not the same as being on Warfarin where you are basically having blood work done/weekly/monthly but I feel there is a bit of neglect while being on this drug. Toothache type pains at tips of fingers like an electric shock, anyone got that? Yes, I think it's time that all of us taking this medication demand updates on contraindications on this drug and updates where this company is at this moment with an antidote.
