Efudex 5% And Silkis 3 (Top voted first)

Updated

My new dermatologist has prescribed a one-week per month treatment over four months, applying Silkis 3 in the morning and Efudex 5% at bedtime. I have used Efudex before in one spot, with the expected itching and scabs. What happens when I apply these creams all over my face and scalp, which don't have many particular keratosis spots? My job involves working with the public.

My dermatologist prescribed Efudex and Desonide last week! Beginning tonight... 7 days Efudex and Desonide am and Desonide pm, followed by Desonide twice a day for 3 days, then stop for 3 weeks. Repeat 4 times after that !

How did this protocol work for you? Do you react quickly. How soon did the redness go away? I’m using a Efudex and a synthetic D3 derivative gel called Calcipotriol. I mix them 50-50 over five day. I am on day one of healing and every square inch of my face is extremely red and beginning to lightly peel. I am to do follow this protocol once a month for three months. Thanks

For anyone coming to this late ... I had started the 4 week trip to hell with straight Efudex/Efudix* but came across info about the combo treatment on day 3, so I raced out and bought some Dovonex/Daivonex* to mix in and proceeded from there, hopefully with only a few more days to go on this route rather than 2-3 weeks (or more).

I tried to find out if Silkis - active ingredient Calcitriol - could be substituted for Dovonex - active ingredient Calcipotriol - but couldn't. So I stuck with the Dovonex because Calcipotriol was used in the Harvard trial, not Calcitriol. The only reason to want to use the Calcitriol is that Silkis is cheaper than Dovonex. But considering the objective here, I'd advise against trying to save a couple of bucks; just use the recommended components and stay on the safe side (IMHO).

I'm on day 2 of using the combo now and haven't seen much effect on my face, neck or left forearm, though I expect the arm to take a fair bit longer going by everything I've read (and I've read a lot over the last few days!)

* The names of these drugs vary by region; I'm in Mexico and the latter names are used here, and in quite a few other countries, while the former are used in the US.
