Efficacy Of Par Bupropion Xl150
UpdatedI've been taking Watson bupropion 150 XL (first 2 daily, then increased to 3 daily) for many years. I found all the other generics ineffective or worse.( I took brand before generics were approved). When the FDA declared testing showed Watson 300 XL and two other generics were not found to be bioequivalent to brand, Watson "voluntarily" withdrew the 300 XL. Evidently the 150 XL was also taken off the market, because it cannot be found anywhere, either in mail order or retail pharmacies. Does Watson's Acquisition of Actavis mean the Actavis buproprion is Watson's formula or Actavis'? I'd be interested in more feedback here on the Actavis generic and the Par that I'm now taking, which for me is the equivalent of taking absolutely nothing. I've been so sleepy since I began it I need to take a 3 hour nap every day. Thanks to the information on this site, I've discovered GSB sold Wellbutrin technology to Valeant, a Canadian corporation that also has a US headquarters in CA. Considering the problems we've endured over the years with nonequivalency and quality control issues, how likely is it that even with the original technology, Valeant will be dependably bioequivalent?
There is tremendous skepticism about the validity of patient reports in the area of mental health drugs. We need more than the FDA seems capable of doing. It is ironic and paradoxical that large corporate contributions and the stigma of mental health disorders make it unlikely we'll find an advocate in Congress to champion the cause; there must be a number of Congresspersons taking anti-anxiety meds, and anti-depressants, and the like. Their health plan affords them the brand, I'm sure. I'd like to see Senate hearings that focus on the needless suffering endured by millions because of a system that values profits for stockholders over productivity and quality of life of tax paying citizens. Not feeling like myself - productive and focused - as opposed to fuzzy with depression I struggled to hide, is not acceptable. Many of us blamed ourselves for many years and felt compelled to try to remedy the situation without medication for a protracted period of time.
Am I going overboard in saying the FDA appears to have higher standards for generic drugs prescribed for chronic physical disorders such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, and diabetes, to name a few, than for mental health meds? This problem with bupropion dragged on for years before the FDA became involved enough to ask the companies for new studies. I'm going on the FDA website (accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch) to enter my feedback regarding the Par generic. If Par is working for many others, I'm glad, and my report won't be significant. I hope everyone who experiences unwanted symptoms or poor results with any medication will submit a report. I appreciate this site and the contributions of the many who post here.
