Dr Puts Me On Zanaflex For Anxiety. Need A Doctor In Arizona

First off, I took the prescribed dose and it literally did nothing. I do suffer from muscle spasms and it didn't even help that. But the crazy thing is I'm on Valium and was asking my doctor to switch back to xanax since I was previously on that and the Valium just isn't working anymore. He then writes me for Zanaflex instead! I need a new doctor in the Phoenix area... I can't deal with this constant trial and error of meds paying out of pocket for crap medications when I know what works best for me. I've been dealing with this for over 10 years. I'm also on suboxone for pain management so it's hard to even find a dr who will write a benzo with that... but I suffer debilitating panic attacks and I have a 6 month old baby. I told him the Valium isn't working, he ups my dose to 6 5mg a day, tell him still not working, wants to put me on a damn mood stabilizer (he'll no I said I'm already exhausted as it is), then that's when he writes the Zanaflex.

Zanaflex contains the active ingredient Tizanidine, it is a muscle relaxant that is most commonly used to treat the pain associated with muscle sprains, strains, and spasms.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, irritability, and headache.

Is it possible your doctor misunderstood what medication you were talking about?

Do they have a copy of your prior medical records?

Yes he has seen me for about 4-5 years off and on. I was surprised when he called in the muscle relaxers, it didn't make sense to me since I told him that my anxiety/panic attacks were still pretty bad and that's when he asked how well I've been sleeping (which is almost no sleep. If I do fall asleep I wake up after maybe 3 hours.) But he said to take it (the muscle relaxer) at night to help sleep and if it helps then i can take it during the day for anxiety. Just such a weird thought on his part to prescribe it for that. He knows what's helped my panic attacks in the past since he was the one who use to write them... right now he has me on 5mg Valium up to 6x a day but said he didn't want to put me back on the xanax because I was on a high dose before. Seems hypocritical since he's writing for up to 6 a day Valium.
