I received doxytet capsules for my pimples on my forehead, but I don't know how long I am suppose to use it. So, can someone provide a treatment. What can I eat while taking this medicine? I am scared to eat pretty much anything?? ## Hi, Tubbs! There's no reason to be afraid to eat anything, doing so isn't dangerous. It's just that taking it on an empty stomach is better, since it allows you to absorb more of the medication, so it can reach a better efficacy level in your body to eradicate the infection being treated. It should be taken at least an hour before, or two hours after eating anything. Additionally, it's best to avoid dairy products, while taking it, because they can also affect the absorption of it. I am concerned about the shocking price increase associated with my supply of a common antibiotic drug which I may have to take for the remainder of my life. I have had 5 surgeries on my left thigh starting with a hip replacement in 2009. Everything was healing until May, 2010 when I fell and landed on my hip requiring an extensive revision to the hip and the femuir. Its half of a pill and all I see is E2 and its shaped like a football and mustered colored ## My mom found it in the bag of one of my nephews and wants to know what it is ## Hi, Sam! How are you? I can't be sure, without knowing the full imprint, but that's the only one I found that matches as I've described. I'm in afghanistan working on a project and can't make it home for another 3 weeks. My crowned tooth has become infected and has my jaw swollen. I have taken 3 doses of doxycycline and waiting to take my 4th dose (Every 12 hrs). I have yet to see improvement and the pain can be immense. I have to take (4) 200 mg ibuprofen every 4 to 6 hours to ease the pain. I rinse with salt water and peroxide on a continual basis. When can I expect to see results? While it would be preferable to stay out of the sun for the duration of treatment, I realize it's not always practical to do so, since some jobs leave you with no choice, so the next best thing to do would be to use a much stronger sunscreen than usual and apply it more often, plus make sure to take in extra fluids, if it's safe for you to do so, to prevent dehydration. However Penicillin is touted as the preferred Antibiotic, at least here in the US, due to it's cost, safety, and overall effectiveness. I have some doxycycline 100 mg tablets expiration 1-29-10. Used for my dogs ear infection. are they still good? Any adverse problems if I gave them to my PUG? ## Based on my research certain drugs are actually okay to take many years after their expiration date, whereas others such as, specific types of antibiotics (namely tetracycline) can become toxic. Normally I'd still consider taking something like that if it's only been a few months old, but because it's an antibiotic (and I don't know if it can become toxic - since it shares the same suffix tetra/doxy"cycline") I would encourage you to get a new script from your doctor or have it lab tested for quality, before relying on it for a serious infection.
