I was given a rx for doxycycline 100mg for an infected tattoo..... i was given a 10 day supply and am taking 200mg a day..... it has made me very sick to my stomach and bad heartburn..... today will be 7 days of the medicine..... would it be ok to stop taking it now..... i am an emt and am aware that you are supposed to take entire rx but i have researched sites claiming that some doxy rx are for 7 days and i am miserably sick. ## Have you tried taking it with food, instead of on any empty stomach? That does help many people with the nausea and heartburn issues, when they are taking this medication. I have been on By Mycin for 5 days and have finished my prescription. I found that my body developed a slight smell while on the drug. Is this a side effect of By Mycin and if so how long will the smell last. Thanking you, Rosemary Traynor ## Hello Rosemary, I can't find any reputable sources stating body odor as a side effect of By-Mycin, which contains the main ingredient Doxycyline. However, that doesn't mean it isn't a side effect since everyone has different body chemistry and can therefore react differently to medications. My only guess is that it could possibly be a yeast infection, as those are quite common after taking antibiotics and can cause an unpleasant odor. My dermatologist prescribed me Doxycycl hyc 100 mg to be taken for 3 months! Is it normal to take antibiotics for that long? I m not sure what for did she prescribed those exactly... I have eczema on my hands and acne on my back . Normally prescribed creams help to clear out my skin. Do i really need to take those pills? ## Hello, Lana! How are you? The presence of an infection needs to be confirmed, before you take an antibiotic and, being expired, it may be starting to lose effectiveness, so it could create the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. You also need to make sure you have enough of it to complete a full course of treatment. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

How are you? It depends on whether or not it is due to an infection and on the type of infection. Strep or other infections will require an antibiotic, but only your doctor can confirm the presence of one. An antibiotic shouldn't be taken, without your doctor telling you to do so, because doing so creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistance. Have you had strep, before?

How are you doing? I'm sorry about the headaches. This is just an antibiotic, so the side effects shouldn't linger more than a week or so, after you stop taking it. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to try a different antibiotic. The usual side effects are nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

I've been on Tera doxycycline hyclate for 30 days and it's causing ringing in my ears and severe dry mouth. I want to stop taking it, how long till it's out of my system? I can't take antihistamines as I have high Bp as well ## Hi there. I'm now taking the antibiotic Avelox. I have tried a few others and they never seemed to work. I have bronchitis. I took my first pill today and seemed to have a slight allergic reaction to it. However, it only lasted about an hour. IM TAKIN 90 MGS. OF LOVENOX, HAD AN ABORTION & WAS PRESCRIBED DOXYCYCLINE, CAN BOTH OF THOSE MEDS. BE MIXED WITH EACH OTHER ## Doxycycline is an antibiotic used to treat or prevent infections and Lovenox contains the active ingredient Enoxaparin, it is used to prevent blood clots. After taking doxycycline and not remaining upright for 30 minutes and not drinking or eating enough when taking the pill, I have been experiencing heartburn. I was wondering if anybody knew how long the heartburn would go on for and what I could do to help it. ## Hello, Catherine! How are you? Sorry that you're having this problem, there are very good reasons such warnings are on these medications. What have you tried to treat it so far? Have you consulted your doctor? How often have you done this and how severe is the heartburn? I didn't find any interactions listed between it and Pepcid, which is available over the counter, but you need to check with your doctor to make sure that it's safe for you to take.

If you don't have an infection anymore and take it now, it creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Can doxycycline hyclate 100mg cause depression (because of the bad effect on the stomach). I was on it for a while (large dose) until my gut could no longer take it. I went off of it (for a UTI), when I felt better. I went back on it. From that point on I have had problems. Recently I was prescribed it for another UTI. I bravely took it & before the fourth dose my gut just plain went crazy. I cannot get a good feeling between my head & gut. I had all kinds of GI exams, all came out well for an 80 year old. I'm a hurting! ## The depression is most likely a combination of everything, not just due to the antibiotic. As to the GI issues, this antibiotic can be pretty rough on the stomach and generally, people over 65 are much more sensitive to medications and their side effects....
