Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 17)
(Newest replies first)

I have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)

Before being on LYRICA I had a mind like a steel trap. I could remember almost everything I saw, read, heard, of any meaning to me at all. If I read it, I remembered it. If I saw it, I remembered it. Of course I mean that these things had to be of meaning to me. NOW, I have great difficulty remembering things that happened yesterday. It feels as if my brain is "cloudy". I have to read things over, and over, and over just to understand what I am reading. I struggle just to keep up with things yet I keep pushing forward because I absolutely refuse to give up and just let this get the best of me. Now I understand how difficult it was for some students to learn when I didn't even have to study to get great grades. Well now I am one of those who struggle with just basic understanding of the written word, comprehending concepts, making sense of conversations, finding everyday words while talking. All of this as well as the added effect of sudden anxiety for no reason whatsoever. Thank heavens I'm a nurse and have enough sense to stop and think about why something is happening to me. I assess my situation and calm myself down after realizing that the anxiety I'm feeling at the time has no real basis in reality. After being on LYRICA I noticed that my vision was a mess. Suddenly I had blurred vision after a lifetime of near perfect vision. Oh, and of course I can't forget the additional 60 lb. weight gain in just 6 months of taking LYRICA. After a lifetime of being a size 8 to a size 18 in just 6 months. And then after being in perfect cardiac health there's the admission to the Heart Failure Unit of the hospital after going into CHF while on LYRICA. My cardiologist tells me to consider myself ALLERGIC to LYRICA. Well heart failure is not an allergic reaction to a drug but it is a serious side effect caused by a drug. LYRICA is dangerous. Look into it before you start taking it.

I've been on lyrica for about 5 months at 1200mg per day and my memory has takin a hit, I lose words also in the middle of a conversation, names, double vision, works very well for my occipital neuralgia, and as a bonus works great for social anxiety. Although at this dose I believe its going to have some nasty effects sooner then later, kind of really scared to stop taking it because I've tried to stop and get fairly sick after about 24 hours of my last dose, ill have to cut back slowly I know but still don't think I can do it on my own, and I quit oxy by myself and this scares the crap outta me. There are other ways out I guess.

Good evening Karel: Get off the Lyrica right away. Please look at Business Week 2013. Case Suits are now happening in the USA. Your memory loss might be permanent. There are a lot more complications from this drug than is published to the general public. Canadian FDA(not their name in Canada) are now looking into the same type of action in Canada.

Hi Debbie , as a health care provider you are probably in a better position for the experts to start listening to you , my son was put on up to 300 mg per day for 5 months for whiplash pain and has never been the same since , Lyrica has destroyed his life , he used to be a brilliant student but now has significant memory problems and Anxiety that were non existent before Lyrica , the experts say the Lyrica should have worn off in a short time like most drugs do but i was there to witness the transition from before and after , there is NO doubt in my mind that Lyrica causes permanent neurological damage and must be withdrawn from the market or limited to very late term, terminal ill patients in a lot of pain.

Debbie, can yuo give me the URLs of these attorney blogs. Even though I have a (long ago) neuro background in basic research, I cannot get my G.P. to pay attention to my complaints even with documentation. It sounds like you have found some that perhaps is more attention-getting.

I am a health care provider and have prescribed lyrica and taken it myself for neck pain. It is a wonder drug as far as the pain relief is concerned. However, I gained 40 lbs and lost a lot of memory taking it. I have just finished reading an attorney blog where people have posted. Many stopped the med due to severe memory problems causing loss of employment, marital problems, etc.. Many have attempted suicide. Many have not regained their memory. I also stopped the drug about 2 months ago and my memory has not improved. There is some evidence that it can cause permanent damage. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you need to read the blogs as you may want to reconsider taking this medicine. My dosage was 150 mg day at the max dose and still lost memory. I also have lost some of my vision which appears to be permanent.

I am on 300 mg of Lyrica daily. My memory is getting steadily worse. I am in danger of losing my job because I can't remember the steps they are trying to teach me to do my job. i have been preparing bankrutpcy's for 20 years and cannot remember how to do the simple things. I was afraid that I was in the beginnings of alzhiemers.

I took Gabapentin for a few month, then switched to Lyrica because the former caused debilitating dizziness, sleepiness, dangerous driving, memory loss, and general large drop in intelligence in general.
After a few months on Lyrica, I discovered that despite my 'neurologists' assurances that I had nothing mechanical wrong with my feet - that both my crippling pain and numbness in different parts of both feet - I want to a podiatrist and he discovered severe plantar fasciatis. With 7 weeks of wearing foot implants in my shoes, 100% of the pain disappeared. I stopped Lyrica during that 7 weeks, as I don't care if my toes are numb.
It is not more thean 6 months later. The problems I had with recalling this or that word - I would say usually nouns, especially proper nouns (peoples names, song names, movie names, product or brand names) before taking these meds were typical for a 55 year old: minor nuisance. Now, these problems - measured by the number of times in a day I cannot remember a word that I have had in my vocabulary for decades - are 20 times worse. It happens sometimes that in a 3 or 4 sentence span, there are half a dozen words I cannot think of. I just give up.
It is like what I imagine approaching dimentia is like - except I've worsened to the degree that people worsen in 15 years, in a matter of a few months.
Sometimes I don't even try to engage in conversation on a subject, because the moment I think of a reply to some statement of someone else, I cannot think of the 3rd word in the sentence I'm about to say. So I keep my mouth shut.

mrbrainfreeze,if you have nerve pain because of pressure from a disc then get the pressure taken off the nerve by treating the disc by surgery or manipulation , Lyrica just destroys the brain that registers the pain in the first place , this is a bit like destroying the warning light on your dash board instead of finding the cause of the problem that is causing the light to come on in the first place , this is medical science gone stupid .Lyrica will cause permanent damage .

I am a physio and patients have been reporting memory problems to me from lyrica. A man today told me one tablet took away his leg pain but affected him mentally so much he would not take another one.

I was on Neurontin 600mg daily along with soma & occasional loran for pain. Memory loss, inability to hold a conversation , spell, follow simple directions made it impossible for me to continue work. I was switched to Lyrica, 300mg, but now I'm finding I'm sleepwalking & memory loss is worse. I also noticed a few years back that even with regular dental checks I had receding gums, and bone loss. Now unemployed, no ins. & having exhausted my 401k I'm now facing having to have my teeth pulled, not to mention I'm having trouble getting a Dr to help me with disability. I worked 25 yrs in the medical & now I can't get help( thank goodness for spell check & so far it has taken me 30 min to compose this sofar)

Bunny66 , there is an old saying ," no pain no brain " and with lyrica that's exactly what you finish up with, NO BRAIN .

Hi Ive just recently been put on Lyrica by my doctor for severe nerve pain coming from a bulged disk pressing on my spinal cord.
I live in Australia and my doctor had to apply for permission from the government to put me on Lyrica but thats besides the point.
For the first couple of days i was on it, i was at home alone as my wife has to work and when ever I closed my eyes for a few seconds and opened them i had the strange feeling of someone walking past me or that there was someone sitting on the couch behind me. after a while this stopped occurring.
but ever since I have been on it i have struggled to hold conversations with people I know exactly what I want to say but there is just one or two words in the sentence I cant get out.
also one time I found myself sitting at the traffic light on my way to a place that i regularly travel to not knowing where I was or where I was going, after a miniute or two it came to me and I was on my way again
also on my way home tonight on the freeway at one stage i forgot what part of the freeway i was on and ended up taking the wrong exit.

Im glad to see Im not the only one having issues Im going back to talk to my doctor tomorrow but i will get my wife w write down everything I need to talk to him about
in case i jump into one of my little i dont know what i call them brain freezes maybe
and cant rememeber what i want to talk to him about

Not only did I have memory loss while on Lyrica, it continues.
For a while I was very afraid I was going into alzheimers. It has not gotten much better with time. I have been off Lyrica 150 mg twice a day for 3 years. My family just smiles now when I can't remember something. Do Not
Stay on this medicine. It messes with your Brain.!

I have been on Lyrica for approx. 6 months for chronic migraines. I started out @ 50 mg twice a day. I then moved up to 100 mg twice a day. After a month at that dose, I started having severe memory loss. It has caused my husband & I to have some big fight over me forgetting conversations or events concerning our business. I run the accounting dept. and I am forgetting to record bank transactions!! Scary! Not to mention weight gain, and a case of the clumsies!! I really appreciate everyone's input on this blog. I will be discontinuing Lyrica after my Dr. appt tomorrow.

I took Lyrica for a couple of years. Started with 50 mg a day and gradually was worked up to 150 twice a day. I thought it was a great medicine because my Fibromyalgia pain got better. I did notice memory loss, but figured it would get better or go away, or that I was just getting older and the memory loss was part of that. Not true. I went off Lyrica because I started putting things together after a long talk with my sister. She was worried about the changes in me. I became anxious and started having panic attacks while taking Lyrica. I have become almost a hermit, avoiding social situations and have lost contact with lifelong friends. My legs and hips hurt all the time. I became irritable easily. My eyesight has deteriorated. The memory which used to remember almost everything is now horrible. Going off Lyrica was like removing yourself from a narcotic, except it took months for the effects to go away. Now 2 and a half years later my memory is still horrible and shows no signs of getting better. I wish you the best of luck taking this medicine. I seems to help some people, but it seems to destroy others.

Hi. Did this ever get better for you? Did your thinking and memory ever go back to normal since you've been off of the Lyrica. I believe the same thing has happened to my mom and i'm so furious about it and saddened at the same time. I just want my mom to have her brain back, completely. She was on Lyrica for 4-5 days and i made them stop giving it to her because she completely changed mentally. Now, my concern is will this be permanent or not. I'm praying it's not.
