Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 14) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)
I took Gabapentin for a few month, then switched to Lyrica because the former caused debilitating dizziness, sleepiness, dangerous driving, memory loss, and general large drop in intelligence in general.
After a few months on Lyrica, I discovered that despite my 'neurologists' assurances that I had nothing mechanical wrong with my feet - that both my crippling pain and numbness in different parts of both feet - I want to a podiatrist and he discovered severe plantar fasciatis. With 7 weeks of wearing foot implants in my shoes, 100% of the pain disappeared. I stopped Lyrica during that 7 weeks, as I don't care if my toes are numb.
It is not more thean 6 months later. The problems I had with recalling this or that word - I would say usually nouns, especially proper nouns (peoples names, song names, movie names, product or brand names) before taking these meds were typical for a 55 year old: minor nuisance. Now, these problems - measured by the number of times in a day I cannot remember a word that I have had in my vocabulary for decades - are 20 times worse. It happens sometimes that in a 3 or 4 sentence span, there are half a dozen words I cannot think of. I just give up.
It is like what I imagine approaching dimentia is like - except I've worsened to the degree that people worsen in 15 years, in a matter of a few months.
Sometimes I don't even try to engage in conversation on a subject, because the moment I think of a reply to some statement of someone else, I cannot think of the 3rd word in the sentence I'm about to say. So I keep my mouth shut.
I am on 300 mg of Lyrica daily. My memory is getting steadily worse. I am in danger of losing my job because I can't remember the steps they are trying to teach me to do my job. i have been preparing bankrutpcy's for 20 years and cannot remember how to do the simple things. I was afraid that I was in the beginnings of alzhiemers.
Debbie, can yuo give me the URLs of these attorney blogs. Even though I have a (long ago) neuro background in basic research, I cannot get my G.P. to pay attention to my complaints even with documentation. It sounds like you have found some that perhaps is more attention-getting.
I've been on lyrica for about 5 months at 1200mg per day and my memory has takin a hit, I lose words also in the middle of a conversation, names, double vision, works very well for my occipital neuralgia, and as a bonus works great for social anxiety. Although at this dose I believe its going to have some nasty effects sooner then later, kind of really scared to stop taking it because I've tried to stop and get fairly sick after about 24 hours of my last dose, ill have to cut back slowly I know but still don't think I can do it on my own, and I quit oxy by myself and this scares the crap outta me. There are other ways out I guess.
Yes I take 300mg a day. My short term memory has gotten horrible. I lose my words and what comes out makes no sense at all. I was terrified that I had the begginnings if alzheimers. It is great with the nerve pain. I was without it for a month and the pajn returned with a vengeance but my memory returned. Not being able to take the pain I dtarted taking the lyrica once more. Unfortunately I cant take neurotin the side effects are much worse.
Friend, go and discuss this with your Dr asap. I think you are on the brink of real trouble. You need relief for your pain but you don't need such dramatic side effects. I would also plead with you that if your Dr does not get that you need some re-adjustment of your medication you get another opinion. I am concerned for you. I have disk problems but was given Lyrica for my constant migraine and it has helped me, although not without side effects; but mine are nowhere near as bad as yours. Take care of yourself, remember YOU are the only one who knows how you feel, Drs need to listen but sometimes they don't.
I have been on lyrica for 3 yrs and take 400mg a day . Memory is shot loss of vocab and ringing in the ears that is constant, I feel trapped between managed pain control and fear of side effects of coming off lyrica . Have heard horror stories bout coming off it
Hi..I just wanted you to know that I am only taking 300mg and I have the same reaction as you do..but my thing has gone a step further ...I have no memory of certain parts of the day or if have a chore or not plus get this I have taken my meds twice because I remember and my husband later told me I have already the other meds ughhh...I am going to see the doc tomorrow actually for this because I am scared.
Hi Debbie , I did not know the maximum dose for Lyrica was only meant to be 150 mg and that was enough to ruin your memory , my son was put on 300mg per day at the age of 17
for 5 months by Dr Terence Lim of North Eastern Rehab in Ivanhoe Melbourne Australia and that turned him from being an A+ student with a razor sharp memory to being a struggling student with a shocking memory , Lyrica also triggered a very severe Anxiety disorder that he had no sign of even just before he took that horrible lyrica , if you think there is some evidence that lyrica causes permanent brain damage then i also believe that to be definitely the case as my son has not recovered his memory or anxiety even after his last dose of lyrica 3.8 years ago ., i also suspect lyrica works so well on pain because it actually impairs the function of the brain .
If mrbrainfreeze lives in the UK he might be finding it difficult to get a surgeon to touch his spine. I have had prolapsed discs for at least 20 years. I had severe pain at age 30 and went to see neurosurgeon, who didn't want to touch my spine. I am now 39 and have had another severe episode of pain, with increased numbness - this resulted in a week's stay in hospital with morphine on tap. MRI shows bilateral nerve compression. I've been on Lyrica since mid-January. My brain feels pretty f*****d to be frank. Waiting for an appt with neuro again. Want to stop taking Lyrica but fear what pain awaits me.
Hi my name is Eva, I have been on Lyrica for I believe 2 yrs. and recently have noticed a big change in my vocabulary during conversations and trying to remember simple words so I have to find a similar word. I am on 150 mg 3 times a day. It is the highest dosage to have. I have Neuropathy on both legs and recently having Radicular nerve pain in my left arm and leg, which is very painful. I cannot take Neurontin cause the memory problems are worse on that. I am a lost as to what to do.
Hi Eva , i read these post and see the amount of human suffering out there is heart wrenching but i believe from my sons experience and ongoing suffering from Lyrica that this is truly a very destructive drug that eventually does more harm than good , it is hard to suggest a course of treatment without knowing a lot more details about your over all condition but may i suggest a few basic things that may improve your situation . . number one Increase your intake of water but drink at least 1.5 hours well before you eat and 1.5 hours after you eat , two,, eliminate white sugar and all processed foods from your diet , in other words plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables honey milk yogurt , whole grain bread , whole grain pasta , whole grain rice , keep away from tobacco , coca cola and all that sort of rubbish , now try 3x 1000 mg fish oil capsules 3 times per day and 1 table spoon of the best quality Olive Oil you can find preferably straight from the farm but at least it has to be cold pressed and taste like an Olive ,take 1 table spoon fulls three times per day and last of all wean of Lyrica slowly and if your pain is still intolerable change Doctor to one that has a more holistic approach , i am sure this will help you .best of luck..
HI there is anyone taking Lyrica for Neurpathy of feet and legs. I posted earlier and just wanted to know if anyone is having memory problems, weight gai, and other symptoms due to Lyrica. thanks
Even after 8 years I still have short term memory loss. I will put something down and not remember where I put it a few minutes later. This is from only being on Lyrica for a month or two.
Even after 8 years I still have short term memory loss. I will put something down and not remember where I put it a few minutes later. This is from only being on Lyrica for a month or two. Lyrica works on your nerves and/or neurons. And what is your brain mostly made up with? Guess what, there are a lot of nerves and neurons in your brain!
Hi Mary , my Son was on lyrica for 5 months at doses up to 75 x 4 per day while still only 17 , it gave him a very severe anxiety disorder almost instantly when the dose hit 75 x 4 per day :" and great learning difficulty , this was a total change from the bright student with a great memory , Lyrica had a significant Dumbing down effect and there is no sign of improvement even though he is now 21 .
I understand what you say, thinking those signs were just in my head. The nerve pain can be so hard to bear, but my Lyrica in moderate dosage over just a few months (added to my fairly high Targin dose) has made me mentally older, 'stupider', than I should be. The unrelenting pain forced my early retirement from senior (and enthusiastic) teaching roles. Are there any other drugs that are safer to our brain for these severe spinal nerve problems?
Lyrica destroys nerves in diabetic neuropathy. What is it doing to our brains?
I have had memory loss since 2006 when I stopped taking the drug. It is known that lyrica destroys nerves in diabetic neuropathy. What is the brain composed of? Nerves!
Didn't even get thru a full course, couldn't remember what I said 5 mins prior. 75 MG. Also lost a hell of a lot of weight no apetite. At all.feel heaps better since being off them, will have to put up with the back pain though.
