Does Lyrica Mess Up Your Liver? (Page 2) (Top voted first)

I started taking Lyrica for 3 weeks now for my Chronic Facial Pain. I had taken all the chronic pain meds and nothing work. I was diagnos with this illness since I had a root canal done, I even got 2 teeth extracted though the pain would go away. Anyway, I am now having some reaction, my feet and legs feels fat. However, my pain is about 4 in a scale of 10 being very painful. I take Lyrica 3x a day with 50 mg each along with oxycodon (if pain does not go away) and motrin 800 mg for head aches. I been on norcotic medicines for 2 years and now with Lyrica and etc. I am just wondering if the chronic pain actually go away? I am tired of taking all these medicine and scared that I will not have a liver left..............

Thank you gig, but I think there may be some misinformation here. Medicines pass through your liver to be filtered, so I can't see how any one drug could bypass this natural function. Thanks for trying to help. I am now taking Lyrica, and had a few minor side effects at first, but nothing more now. the worst of it was being sleepy for the first week or so. The hunger problem wasn't bad at all, and so far, I haven't gained any weight at all. I do appreciate your answer. Thank you very much!

Thank you once again gig! I stand corrected! I did as you suggested and researched a little further. I found that you are 100% correct. Please forgive me for questioning you, and thank you for your patience with me. I learned quite a lot here, and feel much better. I am now no longer worried about a problem with my liver from taking Lyrica. It has been a great help to me so far. The increased appetite didn't last too long, and I am happy to say that I did not gain a single pound while taking it. Thanks again for your help! :)

Well, at least as far as Lyrica goes anyway. I worked in the medical field and at some point was exposed to HepC. luckily, all I have so far is the antibody so I am carefully guarding my liver. That's what brought me to this forum. I wish you continued good health and happiness. :)

Milk thistle help your liver rejuvenate. Don't give up there is hope. My liver was getting cirrhosis And year of taking milk thistle my liver was healed. I'll be taking lyrica , and I will be taking milk thistle again. I'll ever takes a lot of toxins , so take God's earth and heal (:

iv been taking Lyrica for a 10 days now for lower back arthritis and a couple of other things wrong with my back and have it working just great, im taking 225 mg of lyrica at noon 150mg at 3pm and 150mg at 6pm. I am now happy with the pain level and I can now kick back and relax for the evening without feeling tense, stressed and wake up rearing to go in the morning. I hope this keeps up

Oh and in reference to the liver question as posted above, yes, this can affect your liver. The greater percentage of prescription medications are processed through your liver, and therefore they do take their toll.

It is, however, a simply matter of a small blood test to have your liver function tested, the lab will look at the enzymes in your body and then that will let you and your doctor know now if you have any problems with it that you need to be concerned about.

If you are worried, please speak to your doctor and ask them to order this blood test.

I have been taking Lyrica for four months 450mg. I was also taking Tramadol 200mg. I found that the Tramadol was not needed, after taking it for 4 months. I simply stopped taking it ! I had no withdraws. I believe, due to the Lyrica. The combination made me extremely dizzy and High 24/7. I could not drive without almost crashing every 1(one) mile. Every, repeat EVERY time I would stop at a traffic light, I would SPACE OUT (leave the moment High) awaken by car horns. Once I stopped the Tramadol, I felt better ! The Fatigue was gone and I became more alert. I have been off Tramadol for 3 weeks. I was diagonoised I was diagnosed with polynuerapathy. I am also Diabetic Type 1A (over 25 years) My EMG exam indicates the condition. I agree, the more medication you take over time it affect you vital organs.

Karon....I recently had a root canal done and I am experiencing the same sort of symptoms you have. I am going to the dentist again on Tuesday to re-do the root canal and if that doesn't work, we will look at extracting. I have pain in other teeth (all of this is on the bottom) my lower jaw and upper neck area. If you don't mind, can you share what you were diagnosed with? I am SO frustrated and no one is listening to me.....they think I just want pain medication as I may be addicted but I ONLY want relief from my pain. We are going on a little over 1 month since the root canal and still require 4 advil every 3-4 hours and they won't prescribe anything else....I am ready to pull all of my teeth out at this point just to be out of pain. I was given Lyrica for the numbness feeling I have in my legs. I've been on them for about a month. Yesterday I was told by my doctor that I have an elevated liver, can this be from that Lyrica pill? I have to go in and get an ultra sound today to see what's going on. Do I need to be worried about anything? Thanks

Lyrica is a narcotic. It is not a opiate. Morphine is in a class of drugs known as opiates. I wish you well but I'd take opiates over Lyrica any day. Lyrica is hell to get off of. It makes you feel like you want to kill yourself, it made me gain 30lbs quick, causes liver problems ect..Opiates for the most part are Old drugs..They want kill you coming off them some may make you think you wanna die for a day or 2 but Lyrica is a new drug that Phizer is getting rich off of and the side effects are just now coming to the fore front...Beware Kinddebj

Even tho he/she wasnt "technically"addicted im sure he experienced mild mood changes like irritability. Im sure he also experienced a racing heart feeling and had trouble sleeping. even tho he supposedly took his medicine as prescribed for 10 years at the doses he was on and combination of drugs he was taking im surprised it was so easy to get lowered so fast. ive had a chronic pain condition since i was 7 called JRA or Juvenile Rheumatiod Arthritis.im 34 now and have been on almost every pain drug(narcotic and non-narcotic)there is out there.i became dependant 1st,addicted 2nd and an abuser 3rd.i started abusing my meds as a teen,i grew up with addicts and alcoholics so it didnt seem to be "the wrong thing to do".family members were enablers. im still fighting and trying(with no luck)to deal with pain.opiates have been prescribed to me since i was 9 so i think it was probably inevitable to become an addict.im in a wheelchair permanantly now cuz my condition has caused atrophies and deformations to my limbs.

Hello Everyone,
I started Lyrica 75mg about a month and a half ago for chronic neck pain, nerve damage in my arms and an infected balance nerve in my cranium and I couldn't stand the side effects so I went down to 25mgs. Throughout this process I have noticed my liver feels tender, swollen and sore. I can't even lay on my right side when I try to sleep. I have a feeling my liver is inflammed due to this medication. Has anyone else ever experienced these side effects from Lyrica? I am also a petite girl and have suddenly gained 10 pounds and crave sugar all the time now. I never used too and I always had a hard time gaining weight until now. Anyone else feel the same way I do? I want off this pill...its not even helping my pain. Help!

I have the same pain as you.....all in the lower jaw and I feel like I want to pull my teeth out to. I had a dental implant placed and it was only 1 mm from the nerve so it caused some damage. I hope eventully the nerve can heal but I believe it has caused the pain I feel. People don't realize damage can come from dental work and leave you in cronic pain. I am taking lyrica. It helps some but I don't like taking any medication but I also don't like pain.

Have you tried to bed rest a lot , as to get rid of the nerve pains , I have and was on tramadol and was allergic to it , opioids do not help nerve pains and I was given lyrical and helped right away and thanked the doctor for it , you are taking to many pills , try to bed rest alot and don`t sit to long . I was going though all kinds of nerve apains , tylenol and motrin if taking for long time , I think it damages the liver , as you are only to take not more that 10 days and are mixed with the opioids .I almost lost my motor nerves to my legs and my neck is just moving about , from neck injury , torn discs , and in lumbar discs maybe 3 or 5 and by shoulder blades . I found out last year that there was spinal nerve pain pills and no one want to use those or prescrib it . Not sure why and lyrical is so cosly .

Ive been on pregabalin for about 1&1/2yrs. Lyrica has anti-anxiety traits, and as stated before im 2&1/2yrs sober. I refuse, to take narcotics at all. Its worked well for what I take it for, but im only on 150mgs daily. I know meds effect everyone different. DONT stop taking anymeds w/out consulting ur dr. if they wont be straight with u, get a 2nd opinion and id suggest finding a new physician

You should try to go back to 75 mg of lyrica , I had severe left pain by lower rib cage and I think it was from pinched nerves and brain getting confused where the pain is and put pain there and when toching it , no pain , but for a while when enhaling deep , could feel the pain , now it only happen on and off . Bed rest a lot and eat well , I alos gained some , and have not eaten that much , so I think is lyrica , but will take it , as it realy helps nerve pains and went down to 50 mg from 75 . And will tell doctor when hrting more . Don`t take opioids for nerve pains , because they do not help or over the counter meds .
