BL, obviously you are not suffering as we are, for to say that is only showing your ignorance. I've been through physical therapy. My sister is an occupational therapist, also trying to help me. It only ended up with more pain and more suffering. They can't be with me for 24/7, when my pain is non-stop. I've been to a pain management specialist, until he moved to Tucson, who said he can't help me, even with shots, for the pain is all over my body, I would end up, like a pin cushion.
I've taken otc medications, for years, before this, trying to raise my children, take care of our home, run businesses, so the burden of finance wouldn't solely be on my husband. Yet, it continued to get worse. A doctor, I saw, whilst pregnant with my second child, in 1983, told me my scoliosis would make me lose the second half of my body, ending up, permanently in a wheel chair. I am afraid that is happening now, despite my making sure my posture was perfect, strengthing my back muscles to keep the curvature from becoming worse. I was diagnosed in high school with RA, having modified gym, being made fun of, by my other class mates. My mother didn't believe I had back pain, not knowing about my scoliosis, (I guess they didn't know about it, then), so she would pound on my spine, so hard, I saw stars, because she thought I needed to feel what real pain was. I lifted things, much heavier than I should, because she constantly wanted to rearrange the furniture. When I married, I did all the hard work, shoveling heavy, wet snow, taking down trees, putting cabinets, up, myself, and so forth, to save my husband, since he was bringing in more income than I could. All this is now causing so much pain to my body, I can't sit, walk, sleep, stand or do much, any more. Yet, I push on. I have a blind man, my ex-husband, to care for, besides myself, I have no one to help us. This adds stress, on top of stress, which everyone knows, also causes pain. My heart is now affected by the scleroderma. It hardens my skin, so it is not flexible, any more, causing more pain, it also hardens the walls of organs, working on my heart and lungs now. My lower half of my body, my hips hurt so much, I can't sit on the toilet to go potty. I can't lie in my bed or sit in my chair, without severe pain. There is no way for relief, for me. The DEA/FDA has made my two primary doctors, who knew me well, prescribing me the morphine and then taking me off of it, for they gave me Butrans patches, which I had to stop, because the insurance wouldn't pay for it, being too expensive for me to pay for. The last doctor, a jerk, had put me back on the morphine, after being off of it, for four months, only to tell me he's weaning me off of it, again. I did not fill his last script for it. I took myself off of it. Only taking one Norco in the morning and two at night, not helping my pain. I am trying to get off of that, on my own, but the pain is too much. I wasn't taking it, as prescribed, for breakthrough, while on the morphine, for I didn't want to be on so much. But, now, out of desperation, I must take it, for I need some relief to cook, shop and sleep. I am in more pain than ever and it is getting worse. But I must try to get off of it, for no doctors, in my area will treat me, thinking I am a junkie, even though I followed my prescriptions, to the letter. My doctors, my pharmacy, knew this and was trying to help me. The pharmacy is appalled at the fact that the DEA put so much pressure on my doctors, they left. They are appalled that I can't get any relief. I, too, had thought of suicide, but my faith stops me. Instead, I am trying to help all Chronic Pain sufferers, by starting the petition, (mentioned earlier), writing to the President, and reversing the so called, "War on Drugs" from hurting honest, suffering patients who want to die then go on, being vegetables, in extreme pain.

NO, DL, you don't know what you write about, for if you did, you would never, ever write what you did, to me. You must get off this thread, or keep your opinions to yourself, for you are uncaring, unknowing and apparently have no idea what real pain is. It is not like a tooth ache, or a broken or sprain ankle, it is worse than cancer pain, I personally know. For I lost my fiance' and my dad, died in my arms, from cancer. They weren't suffering like I was, not like others, who won't die, yet, but live much longer, because their injuries, from accidents, bad surgeries, or being injured, fighting in the wars, or their illnesses/diseases are slowly killing them. Cancer spreads fast. Most can be put in remission, but my illnesses keep getting worse, has spread throughout my body and there is no hope, no cure for me. Nothing can be done, for I have been a quinea pig, trying everything, with my two primaries, before they disappeared. They were so sad, they couldn't continue to treat their patients, giving the patients a hope for relief, because of the ignorance of people like you, the DEA/FDA and some selfish politicians, who none are doctors or have any knowledge of the extreme sufferings and have no medical knowledge of these patients who suffer so very much, that they want to die, to get away from the pain. Please, don't bother to post your awful opinions, we do not want to hear from you, again!

Thank you, Veteran, for standing up to this BL, who knows nothing about what he/she writes. I know your suffering, I am suffering too. This BL is one of those who have no idea what pain is really like. I bet BL has never had a broken arm, not even close to the sufferings of chronic pain patients. Get your head out of the sand, BL, get a life, but not on here. For you have no idea the suffering, the pain we are having 24/7, every single day of our lives. You have no medical knowledge, and if you did, you apparently weren't trained for patience in extreme, non-curable pain. For if you had any clue, you would keep your opinions to yourself. You do not suffer, otherwise you would not write what you did. But read my reply to your nasty comments, I won't waste Veteran's time going on, about it, to someone we don't know or care about, anymore.
Veteran, thanks for writing what you did, you speak for all of us. If you would like, please sign my petition, which I wrote in a couple of my earlier posts. I am trying hard to make people, even the DEA/FDA realize we are not junkies, not dependent on our medications, but need them to survive. So we can live a more human life.

Also, you are important, because you served your country, without being asked. It is not fair that you are being treated, like us all, because of that. If the President, really cares about Veterans, brave soldiers who have tried to keep our country free, by sacrificing themselves, their bodies, to do so, then he will listen to you and all veterans. I also listed his "Front Porch" website, where he asks us all to write and tell him how our lives are like, how we are doing. Please, encourage other veterans to do the same, for me. The more we get our voices heard, the more people will realize our extreme sufferings, which last much longer than cancer patients, more intense, for we are not allowed the care and help they get.
Please, keep writing here, also, for the rest of us, except for the stupid and ignorant, all care about you and wish you the best....

Always,
Marianne

P.S. When I write to the President, I refer him to this site and other chronic pain sites, so he can read, first hand, our terrible sufferings thanks to the DEA/FDA not concentrating on the drug cartels, the smugglers and the junkies. Why I even caught a huge supply, myself, helping the Border Patrol, being smuggled over the border, when I lived only five miles from it. Also caught an escaped prisoner, from a Mexican prison, sending him packing with Border Patrol. I was doing my part, to protect our children, our country too, until it became too hard for me.

BL you are clueless. And yes if someone gets cancer because they have been on pain meds it may not help. And we all know that is the chance we take. But at least for now we can have some quality of life. Everyday this F---Ed government takes our rights away and yet the people in this country are just a bunch of zombies with rings in their nose. Good luck to all for me I can not take it any more and I'm going to take the cowards way out.

Mack, Understand how you can be very frustrated with people who don't understand what real pain is and the fight we are all having getting our medications. Worried me with your remark about the coward's way out. What do you mean?

BL,

Seems as everyone has said it. You must not have intense pain, nor be a chronic pain sufferer. Physical activity is something I try to do as much as possible and am always looking for things that I am able to do. "use it or lose it". Many activities can trigger a horrible "downward" cycle in many chronic pain people. We have to be very careful what we do, how long we do it, how intensely we do it etc.

Alternatives to pain medications is something that I've asked about several times on this web site. Pain medication isn't the only form of pain relief that most of us use or have tried. Maybe you didn't mean to be sound as if pain medication, isn't a necessary part of pain management for lots of people?

Marianne
Would appreciate some more information on the websites you mentioned in your post. Especially the "Front Porch".
I've have various complaints about treatment at pharmacies, pain management doctors, the inferior medications that are being pushed on us. I have been told that I need to accept things as they are, cause I can fix or change nothing. I am not willing to accept that as any sort of reasonable answer to the problems I've been having.
I didn't sign up for chronic pain, it seems I was dealt this hand. I find it so depressing to fight every month for the pharmacy to fill my prescriptions as written by my doctor, without treating me poorly, and without giving me an inferior product.

I know what it is like to suffer chronic severe pain. As well as to have it not treated and untreated. But, if we want to continue to use pain meds for chronic severe pain, then we must make adjustments. The attitude towards treating chronic pain patients is only going to get worse. And there is nothing that we can do about it. There have been countless petitions online, they never even come close to getting enough signatures. Anyone can email President Obama. If you think he will know about them, you are wrong. If you want to get a politicians attention, call and make an appointment with them. Go in and talk to them face to face. If they are willing to introduce a Bill to change law, great. Just remember that it takes more than introducing a Bill to make it law. The Bill must be passed by a majority of votes.

BL, do you really know what it is like, to suffer Chronic Pain? If so, why would you write, what you did, then? Do you really know what chronic pain is? Pain that is so bad, you can't think, can't do anything, but pace and suffer, if you can walk. Pain that is so bad, you can't breathe, it causes you to throw up, it raises your blood pressure way above 185/173 with a heart rate of 100. It gives you severe attacks, like I had today and last night, nearly calling the ambulance. Thank heavens, I have B.P. medicine and nitro, to calm my heart, but before that, my head feels like it is going to pop off. There is nothing that helps. I can't keep anything down. I've lost so much sleep, I am exhausted. This is what others feel, if not worse, if possible. So, tell us about your chronic pain? Where is it, do you throw up, from it, can you eat, sleep and live life, enjoying it? Can you see your family and friends? Last weekend, my sister was coming to AZ, to see me, since she was on the way home, from my brother's funeral, I couldn't attend. I had to turn her away, knowing I will never see her, again, for she is moving to Washington state, from CA. There is no way I can ever see my family again. I miss them so much, haven't seen them for over 10 years or longer. Can you say that? If you can, if you have suffered, so much that you want to die, instead of living, then, by all means, I will apologize to you. But, I don't think so, I don't think you really know what chronic pain is. It is not just a back ache, in the small of your back, where you can take Advil, to help with the pain. It is so much more than that. I can assure you. If you read the desperation of all the patients here, you might come to understand, also reading the patients on other sites. But, if you don't feel it, then how, how can you possibly understand, unless you are in our shoes, if some can even wear shoes these days. Please, tell us your story, so we can possibly understand you.

Also, doing something, no matter how small, no matter how there are many petitions, maybe one, just might work. Maybe filling the President's website, with our stories, just might get his attention. This is a SERIOUS problem, not just for a few, but for over 100 million patience. Even the ebola outbreak, there's a chance for survival, or death, either way, they will not suffer as long as we do, for the rest of our lives.

Thank you, Susie. Please tell everyone, you know or read, on these sites. Also, be sure to go to the President's "Front Porch," site and write your story and maybe copy/paste other stories from other patients, as I am doing. The more we write him, the more attention we all will get.
May God bless and keep you, Susie, You are in my thoughts and prayers...

Always,
Marianne

Marianne, I am about to have to go into a nursing home because I can't do activities of daily living due to chronic severe pain. It was managed and treated up until a few yrs ago. So, yes, I do know what it is like to have to suffer every day with it. To not be able to take a shower, prepare more than a 3 minute tv dinner, not be able to go to the store, miss the birth of grandchildren, miss birthdays, funerals, etc.

Then, why did you write what you did, about others? I don't understand you. You upset many, who are also suffering, including me. Why don't we fight the DEA/FDA and not give up? Let's stand together, maybe if they concentrated on Chronic pain research, as much as they do cancer, lung disease and heart problems, we all would be better off, but there is nothing. Just us patients, supporting each other. It is never advertised on TV, the news or anything about chronic pain patients, yet, there are so many of us. Why is that, who is covering up, but the government, the DEA and the FDA, that's who. Everyone please stand up for yourselves, by signing any petition you find, for us all and writing the heck out of President Obama, together we can do it all. Be a fly in the wall, when you can!
May GOD bless and keep you all, I have you in my prayers...

Always,
Marianne

Marianne , the new Heath Care Law has provisions for improved pain management. Although, nothing has been done in this area, yet. Most people don't want to do anything but take a pill and that is not the reality of pain management any longer. I have seen many changes regarding how drs manage chronic pain in my 60 yrs. I know when things will change and when they won't. I also know that no dr can be successfully sued for not treating chronic pain, but they can be sued if they do.

It would be a better use of time and energy to get on the local news about how chronic pain patients are being treated where you live. Then call your state Rep & Senator to ask them to watch. Ask the local station what the chances are of it being picked up by the national affiliate. This is how those that abuse these meds have made to their level of importance. Also look around where you live and see how many hundreds of others are having problems receiving pain management. If you can't find many people. Look at what the differences are between you and your struggles to receive pain management and them and theirs. Do you both have good insurance ? What are your conditions and ages ? Have you or any of them ever had a problem with a Pain Contract or a dr firing/dismissing you from Pain Management, etc ?

Now that the drs know that these meds can harm a patient as opposed to being told by the pharmaceutical companies that they could not, the drs won't use them now and in the future like they have in the past. Chronic pain patients have to change their lifestyle so they can manage their chronic pain with less meds or no meds, that is the reality. Other patients with chronic conditions have to do the same thing.

When you look at the estimated number of chronic pain patients and compare that to the tiny number of those who are saying they can't receive treatment, there does seem to be a problem. If the majority of chronic pain patients weren't receiving treatment or proper treatment, it would make a huge difference. But, that is not the case.

I would like to tell everyone that may have written on this site About grandfather Mack. I do not know how long he is been communicating here. But this was open when we found him. I read where you posted something that must have came through after his death. My grandfather was a war veteran in the Vietnam War and received great injuries. He would never talk about the war when I would ask him but I could see in his eyes is very painful for him to remember. My grandmother said he was a war hero he'd received two silver stars one bronze and two purple hearts doing two tours in Vietnam. All I know is he went into the Marine Corps at the age of 17 and was medically discharged at the age of 20 from wounds he received being blown out of some kind of Amtrak where his platoon he was with most killed. This is very hard for me to write about this man was my hero that he would write he was taking the cowardly way out. There was nothing cowardly about this man.he could not take the pain and suffering in the judgment of doctors and other people in this world felt that he was undeserving of proper pain relief. This country that he loved and cherished so much I think was more painful than the wounds that he received in battle. I know he's in heaven is praying. And looking down hoping that all of y'all find a proper care that you need God bless. At least now I know that the physical pain and all the mental anguish really must've suffered the last 40+ years has gone. I love and I will miss him very much take care to all.

BL YOU were asked. What pain are you suffering from. All you say is your moving to a facility. I believe your lying. You went on to lecture Marianne.

You, are a fraud. Please save this site your b.s. We have enough of that. You don't get it. Don't you think we ALL started out dealing holistically? Do you honestly think we WANT to be medicated. You are very WRONG! Hence, your lying.

You need to be blocked from this site. Someone is speaking of taking their lives. You did not acknowledge that fact. How could you be so cruel not to try and reach out to this person instead of LECTURING US, we get enough of that bulls***. Move on. Your not wanted.

Thank you, Veteran, I agree with you. I think BL needs to be quiet or more understanding. Yes, all of us, have tried everything. It wasn't our choice to be on the medications, our doctors gave us. As a matter of fact, I had no clue, what I was given, I trusted my doctors, for they showed very much how they cared and tried to help me. They did, with the medication, so I can live a normal life, then, caring for my fiance' who was dying of lung cancer, keeping him at home. I also care for my blind, ex-husband, for he has no one to care about him. I am off the morphing, but am suffering terribly, not from the withdrawals, for I don't have those, any more. I am suffering from more symptoms of other things, popping up. I am in more pain than ever, trying to find a doctor who will help me. I have no pain clinic in my town. There's one, two hours away, which I can no longer travel. Also, my rheumatologist, moved back to Tucson, to make more money, in the more expensive part of town. There is no other, of that specialty, here either. I guess the good doctors, don't want to practice here, not making enough money, apparently. Even the Veteran's doctors went to Tucson. So, I'm in a real bind, especially since the DEA is so active here.
So, I than, all of you, who sign my petition, write to the President, on his website and try to help me, help others. Not just myself.
May GOD bless you and keep you safe...
Always,
Marianne
