Mack, I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather. I bet he is in heaven, looking down, on you and everyone, without any more suffering. He was a brave man, fighting for us all. I am very happy you told us your story, about him.
May God Bless you, dear, I wish you all the best...
Always,
Marianne

If you were really interested in managing your pain with the least amount meds, you would have said something about what the ACA says about Pain Management. Instead you want to attack me.

The trouble is, BL, I can't manage my pain, any more without meds. I am hoping I will find a doctor who will help me. You seem to be missing the point, from all of us, we don't want to be on meds, we have to. It isn't our choice, anymore. WE TRIED EVERYTHING ELSE! Our pain is beyond all physical therapies, hypnotists, natural ingredients, pain management, everything. You just don't get it, everything, we've gone through, as guinea pigs, do not work. Please, just stop writing here. Go somewhere where you will do some good. Stop giving your opinions to us, period!!!

Hopefully the research done that has been authorized by the ACA will bring new options for treating chronic pain, besides meds alone. You may want to research what the Affordable Care Act says about Pain Management and treating chronic pain.

Everyone,
Been in bed, I have those days where the pain (even with medication) isn't manageable, so bed is where I hide.
BL has upset everyone again. Let's try and give BL a break and a few prayers. It doesn't really hurt any of us to hear a different view point. Remember pain is different for all of us, and as BL hasn't said what the chronic pain is from, we can't imagine what the level is (or if BL did, I missed it). There may be some good information from BL that some of us can make use of.
Don't be calling me "goody two shoe" names now LOL

Couple years ago our county offered a pain management class for chronic pain sufferers, which cost $35 for the book. A couple of us (Our Group) scraped money together and attended the class. The book was definitely worth the $35, but the class wasn't. Everyone else in the class was at a pain level very different from what "Our Group" were, yet they sincerely feel that they are dealing with chronic pain. All were able to use Tylenol to control their pain. Boy do I ever wish. Also had a group there who just "grit their teeth" and do what has to be done LOL. Couple of those people, I felt as if I did want to slap LOL
As Marianne said, those of us who are taking medication for our pain, certainly do wish we did not have to.
I am always looking for ways to manage my life a little and appear somewhat normal. The pain and fatigue usually manage me, more than I have control.

My newest thing is I bought a shop vac, cause I haven't been able to vacumn my floors for several years. The shop vac allows me to do a little more on my own, cause there's no heavy machine to push or pull on. Just the hose.
Before I was prescribed medication, I had 7 years of pain, that I didn't know there was even anything to help me, I had gotten to the point that the pain and fatigue controlled every part of my life.
If it weren't for the help of Opana ER 20mg and oxycodone 10mg for break through, I wouldn't care if I ever did any more housework, and without that help from the medication, I don't get out of bed often enough to do anything anyway.

People who are looking for doctors to prescribe pain medications, are they saying what part of the country, or am I just missing that info?

Susie, I feel your suffering, for I am the same way as you. The bed is a good place to hide, but not from the suffering of pain. My bed only adds to it, all the more. I only get about 2 hours of sleep, before I am suffering again. As for the shop vac, I have a big one, it is so hard to move around, bumping into everything, I just gave up on it. I use an upright, which is self propelled. I only have to steer it. But, I can only run it a little bit, each day. I don't do the whole house, only twice a month, for it is too hard. I just get where my dogs leave their shedings, for I hate hair all over the place. It is about a five minute vacuuming when I do that.

Yes, those who can get by on Tylenol or the other OTC's do not have the pain levels we have. I had been on those, for years, trying to raise my family, all the way from high school, when my mom had a meltdown and I had to raise my two, young brothers. She was too ill to do so. I was born with scoliosis, had arthritis, already and suffered silently. For mom or anyone didn't believe I was in such pain. Finally, a doctor diagnosed my arthritis, putting me in modified gym. There went any social life. But, he only recommended the OTCs too. I worked so very hard, lifted things, way beyond my ability, for mom wanted to move the furniture, every week and made me do it, thinking I was young and healthy. I continued to do the same, lifting heavy things, myself, while married, for I didn't want my husband to be burdened with house matters. Now my body is worn out and in such pain it is hard not to cry, every day.

BL's opinions are directed to us, making us feel like drug junkies, telling us there are other alternatives, but he doesn't know, we've tried all those others. He mentions those groups, the President's health plan too, but those are for people with out the pain we are experiencing. He has no clue what we are suffering, how much our lives are ruined from it. I don't wish bad on BL, but I do wish he would leave his comments, something he knows nothing about, from us, who are suffering so very, very much, like you, Susie. He is showing his ignorance, each times he writes. This is why we are getting so upset with him. He doesn't suffer, like we do. He just says so and not why or how much. If he did, he wouldn't even write what he does.

Susie, I do wish a better health for you. I know that is impossible, for it is with me, but I do hope, someday, they will come up with some miracle, for all of us. In the meantime, I keep you in my prayers and am happy to know you...

Always,
Marianne

Thank you, dear Susie, for signing my petition. The more who sign it, the more help we will get, in acknowledging our true suffering and the need to have our medications. For we've tried everything, despite what BL thinks, and nothing else works. The DEA/FDA is ruining our lives.
Please, continue to spread the word, I want us all to win this battle...

Always,
Marianne

Veteran
You a Marine Vet? I'm an AF Vet. 10 years active and did 5 more as active reserve.
Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your point of view, I did not suffer with any problems when I discharged from the military. People are always asking what the veterans affairs are doing to help me, nothing, cause I didn't know that they would as I was fine upon discharge and wasn't a foreign war vet. I did receive a phone call from VA recently about care, which I wondered if it was due to the recent bad press LOL. So I may be able to receive benefits that I didn't know I had.

Anyway, do you get treatment from VA? If so, what is their attitude with chronic pain?

Marianne,
Welcome. I will pass the website on. Great Idea. Any suggestions from anyone on what other pain reliever available for break through pain. I have the oxycodone 10mg, but I keep fighting the same battle over and over. I can not take KVK Tech products and every pharmacy I use, ends up buying KVK Tech as they are getting a price deal. I love the Opana ER but still require something for break through. I am almost out of pharmacies to try. Already went through the big guys, Safeway, Kroger, Walgreens, and now have been making my way through the independents. All is well for the first couple months, the independents have had other manufacturers, then whammy KVK Tech. AS I can't seem to beat the pharmacy greed game, I thought I should approach it with my doctor for a medication that works as well for me as the oxycodone 10mg but doesn't have such a issue with availability.

Ok BL.. I have done all aspects of PT. Massage accupressure, acupuncture, exercise, physical therapist, drx 2000, ablasions, trigger point shots, epidurals, they burned my nerve endings w a radio frequency, hot/cold packs, electronic stimulation, I've done it all. Unfortunately for me those were all temporary fixes. And when they wore off the pains came back x10. I sometimes see what you r saying but it doesn't mean it works. Some things work for some people. Most of the people on this site have tried everything. I know I'm addicted to not being in pain and I am also physically dependent on meds. Hopefully it all changes as I'm going to the laser spine institute where they will perform 4 different procedures on me. After that I'll be done w meds. I've purchased withdrawl ease it kinda helps but not much. Anyway good luck to everyone do what you feel is right not a Dr or random poster on this site says. God bless u all n best of luck to those searching for relief.

Susie:

Army. 100% disabled. I do get all treatment through the VA EXCEPT PAIN MANAGEMENT. For chronic pain, they will only offer methadone.

As per yout other question, I have also noticed those asking for help do not state where they are 90%, that's a guess.

The president just signed a new VA health care law I am anxious to read.

I doubt there is any help for chronic pain mentioned. Concidering my Dr. @va clinic told me the va will no longer prescribe any other pain meds but methadone. Unfortunately I am aware, not by my own vises, that if you want to call any drug the (the term just left my thought the one drug you start to use they refer to marijuana) anyways, methadone WILL have people seeking H. It's a fact, I've been witness to fellow vets who were on methadone, the longer your on it the more you need to get the high. It IS a myth that methadone does not give you euphoric state. It's worse than anything prescribed, because you will get addicted, you will seek out more, you will turn to H. It's a fools decision. Lives will be lost. Our vets will be once again junkies, as from my time Vietnam. Make NO MISTAKE this is playing Russian roulette with the lives of our veterans.

As per BL. No, be never stated his ailments. You asked, Marianne asked, I brought it up twice and the person did not respond, nor did BL have any compassion for the person screaming for help by stating he's taking the chickens way out. I can only hope he read my post and will post again. Unless it's too late. For these reasons I respectfully do not agree TO GIVE BL ANY THING. BL IS FULL OF BS. HAS DISRUPTED THIS SITE. you may have forgiveness in your heart. If the person has taken his life. I will not pity BL. Too many of my brothers have done the same to listen to this person, nor read what they say if they post again.

That's the link to the va health care. military.com, has a wealth of info regarding benefits, too many things to list. I hope it helps you in some way. If only to keep up with what's happening.

This thread is for those of us seeking a dr. Willing to help us. It has now turned into something else.

Those asking for a dr. You will not get an answer if you don't state where you are. How can anyone reply in your area, when an area has not been given? Fear? I believe this site is being monitored by big brother. We are not breaking any laws, don't be afraid to post your location. Your ONLY ASKING FOR A REFERRAL TO A DR. THERE IS NO HARM NOR SHAME IN THAT.

SUZIE, one of my ailments is PTSD. It is very difficult for me to talk about my Vietnam days. From being there to coming home. We were NOT treated kindly by our own. When I the only thing I was doing was following orders. I can't talk about it. I've lost my counselor through the va, he was helping me, a friend a brother. He retired. 2 yrs later. They have not replaced him. Vet to Vet. I know you understand.

I think it's time to make the site a referral site once more.

Susie: one more thing. FIGHT. just because your ailments did not happen after discharge means nothing,

Those of us who had the "pleasure" of walking, crawling, through agent orange. Unfortunately I have several items attributed to that which did not show it's ugly head for YEARS. Then I was handed a life sentence by my dr. Due to serving my country.

It was a fight I could not do. If not for my spouse who fought the va, went to our congressmen for 3 years. I would have no benefits.

My spouse took on a mission that many others would give up. She states, it was the only thing holding her together. The fight. With no help from the va reps that are suppose to help, no help from the American legion.

She is an incredible human being. I would not be speaking now if not for her. You have got to play the game. For instance, she would constantly be contacted by the regional office they did not receive such and such documents. By the end, when I was finally deemed 100% service connected disabled. She received a 1 foot package, all stamped duplicates. The American legion, did nothing except take the credit and had nerve to ask for a donation.

It IS a battle. If you are up for it. Don't give up fighting. They will try and make it so difficult that you will give up, that's what they want. She just kept saying this is the governments fault, they did this to you. I'll leave the story at that. I will miss my wife when my sentence is up, the drs handed me. I will not take my own life. It's the hand I've been dealt.

In the beginning, I was. Now, I could never do such an act knowing what she's done to help me, my children my grandchildren.

Good luck...
