U said u might be able to help me find doctor in Royal Palm Florida that will prescribe meds I am on in NY. Oxycodone 10mg/325 every 6 hours for chronic pain in my back and OA of joints. If I find a doctor where would I find a pharmacy to fill it? Any help is appreciated.

I have three-fractured vertebrae, which was diagnosed in 2015. I have used many alternative methods of treatment. I have taken Percocet, when treated before. I have the bottle with the last time that I had the pain medication fillled, which has been almost a year ago. I am now having some of the back pain again. You suggested a great doctor, that you went to, who seems to be very understanding. I wanted to get more details about the physician. Thank you so very much.

BL- I have been following this post for a very long time, and have read every single post and I see that you have truly rubbed some posters the wrong way lol...However, I see your posts as knowledgeable jewels of wisdom, as most of them are supported by links to back up your perspective, facts, and/or opinions! In all honesty, I don't see what the issue is. If more people weren't so distraught over their limited narcotic distributions, they would clearly see that you've given them the tools to supersede the guidelines of the DEA. FDA, AND CDC! As well, I commend you for staying true to who you are and not engaging in derogatory and demeaning word play! As I'm sure your words have helped in more ways than one!

In 2012, I underwent surgery to remove a pinched nerve from between the bones of my right foot big toe. It was causing loss if balance and tremendous pain. After the surgery, pins were inserted in my foot, as my bone had to be broken in order for the problem to be rectified. I was prescribed 10mg Lortab (fat pink pill) every 4 hours, as needed for pain. I was off my foot, wearing a foot brace to walk in, and on FMLA from work for 4 months. Needless to say, I developed a tolerance and eventually an addiction that lasted for 5 years! I wasn't informed by the prescribing physician that this medicine had the risk for tolerance, dependence, nor addiciton/abuse! Prior to this surgery, I had no idea what prescription narcotics were. Now, I am currently on Suboxone to overcome my addiction and I can honestly say that these last few months have been tremendously different from the last 5 years of my life, as I am no longer in a drug induced brain fog- because that is exactly what opiates do over long term use. I see things so clearly now, therefore, I can understand the frustrations of these posters in regards to your comments because I know that if I were still where I was on the pain pills I probably wouldn't want to hear TRUTH either. I would just want my pills and nothing more. Addiction is SNEAKY AND VINDICTIVE, thus my advice to everyone is to do what you have to in order to reserve the quality of your life but please keep in mind the long term damage to the psyche caused by continuous use of narcotics! I wish you all the best in your journey towards life without debilitating pain!

Presently am in NY moving to Palm Beach county Florida. Need to bring all my MRI and records. I am on Medicare and Medicaid. I am nervous to find a doctor as I need blood pressure and breathing medicine as well as oxycodone 10mg 4x/day and Xanax 1mg 3x/day. Florida has a reputation to not give these pain meds out and if they do where to fill them. Any suggestions would b greatly appreciated. I am 70 yrs old and trying to have quality of life. I am an occupational therapist but can no longer do my profession as I work with geriatrics in rehab nursing homes and do not want to jeopardize the patients needed care.

I need help. I am on oxycodone 10mg. 4x/day but this month I have been eating them like candy. I have been put on steroids for my asthma and they make me crazy. My control is gone. I will run short 5 days early and as I have done many cold turkey detoxes in my life from opiates, etc., u name it. Never went to detox. I will be 70 and I know this won't be as bad but I am scared. Can anyone suggest how I can get on Suboxone? My doctor doesn't believe in them. Please help.

I have never been in denial that I am an addict. 55 yrs now. My dear was always what happens if I have genuine pain one day and nothing will help. Well these last 5 or so yrs. I have chronic joint pain all over and have developed mod. Emphysema from abusing myself. I don't beat myself up too much anymore guess come to accept and I always took responsibility for my bad hurtful decisions. No one was ever to blame. I want to get off my opiates with suboxone. Well it's so difficult for me to give up this drug as it has become my crutch. I take 10mg oxycodone 5x/day well supposed to but depends how I lie to myself. I do not do illegal street drugs anymore. I am proud of that. I am out of control with my script. I need help finding a doctor to put me on suboxone. My doctor won't. I love in NY LI and have Medicare and Medicaid. Any advice.

Hi Sue,

I've read in your previous post that you are moving to Florida, and that you have 2 types of insurance, so finding an addiction specialist shouldn't be hard at all. From what I've read in your post, you are certainly addicted to opiates, and could benefit tremendously from Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)! After five years of opiate use, I have been attending a MAT program for 2 months, and since day one I knew I had made the right choice! There are many that oppose treating opiate use disorder with an opiate, however, there are more that favors it due to its unique ability to mimic your drug of choice mechanisms. Therefore, this allows your brain to be manipulated into believing it has its DOC, and your body to begin healing itself. My suggestion is to contact your primary insurance company for any referrals to an addiction specialist, or recommendations to any state programs for addiction treatment!

I wish you the best, as addiction is a disease and although there are many definitions of addiction, we can be rest assured that the following definition is a relatively simple one as it encompasses components of several more complicated explanations of the disease- "Addiction is a chronic, progressive, incurable, fatal, yet treatable disease, characterized by loss of control over the use of addictive chemicals." This simply means that addiction is long term; will get worse over time; cannot be eliminated from the individual once its taken its hold; leads to death with continued abuse; but, CAN BE treated successfully!

Many will say that treating opiate use disorder (OUD) with an opiate (Suboxone, Subutex, and Zubsolv contains buprenorphine- a partial opiate agonist/antagonist that only occupies roughly 60% of the opioid receptors, but has a high affinity and bioavailability which allows it to STOP cravings and withdrawals, thus ultimately the abuse) is trading one addiction for another, but that is NOT the case AT ALL! Therefore, all I can recommend is that you research MAT, find a local MAT program and regain control over your life because addiction to opiates is indicative of loss of control, and once on this rollercoaster ride, no one knows what will happen next after that last pill or shot!

Sue, MAT stands for Medicated Assisted Treatment, and this is a program designed to get and keep anyone addicted to or dependent on opiates off of them! Depending on when you are moving to Florida, my suggestion would be to contact your now local MAT programs, as well as any that's located in West Palm Beach Florida. Is there any reason why you can't begin a MAT program where you are now? It may be to your advantage to begin now and then have proof of your participation for when you move, by having a copy of your assessment and records from the program! Research Suboxone, Subutex, and Zubsolv; these are some of the medications used in a MAT program. I am currently on Subutex (I was allergic to the naloxone in the Suboxone) and it is absolutely phenomenal in its purpose for stopping cravings and withdrawals; even beneficial for some cases of depression. I was able to decrease my depression medication Effexor XR from 150mg to 75mg daily after a month of treatment.

In addition to the MAT program, Intensive Outpatient therapy (IOP) serves a great purpose for those of us addicted to/dependent on opiates! See, just as one would take their medication for diabetes, high blood pressure, HIV/AIDS (all illnesses) we also must take our medications, and take care of our mental and physical health in order to have quality of life! Please, research these topics and you will find an abundance of information that will bring understanding and acceptance of this disease called addiction. It also allows you the opportunity to know what treatments may be an option for you, and a path towards recovery! Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you, as I am here to help my fellow sufferer!

I am grateful for info u gave me about MAT. Should I call Medicare and Medicaid while I am in NY? Or wait few months til I move to Florida? Is MAT a clinic? Should I bring all my medical records or would they send for them? I have to reapply for Florida Medicaid when I move. Oh God it's like starting all over with new doctor new pharmacy and new meds. Thanks for answering my question. I loved your response. U r straight forward and direct. No Bulls***. U r the only one who has given me advice. I am an honest person who has always taken full responsibility for my actions and since teenagehood never was in denial being an addict and stupidly chose to embrace the life. I managed to lead a double life. I did 5 yrs. of college to get a good degree and was able to support my expensive habit but I also paid all bills on time. I married a clean and sober man this time. 50 yrs he put up with me and I also helped him. I am not living the life anymore thank whomever but my script use is out in open. He still resents I take scripts but at 70 my body is in chronic pain. I want to get off the opiates and try suboxone. It's becoming tiring getting a script every month and of course most months I am short. Thanks for listening.

Thank u so much for listening to me. I am presently showing house so busy with appointments and people coming over. My doctor is wringing me off prednisone which has made me psycho. I could b moving very soon. I have gotten suboxone many times off street and like it better than opiates. I am scared to let go of my crutch but no I must. Think I will call MAT when get to Florida. Hi Sue,

It was certainly my pleasure to share with you what I can honestly attest to worked for me! I have always been direct and forward because that is what I expect, so I have to practice it! If this choice was being left up to me, I would definitely contact Medicare and Medicaid now; it can't hurt to be knowlegably prepared! Also, ALWAYS keep a copy of your medical records, that way you know what's in them, as well as knowing if there's any discrepancies.

Accepting one's life as an addict is a hard thing to do for anyone that's struggling with addiction! It wasn't until I got clean that I realized my self-worth. My clean date is July 17, 2018. I went to a detox center twice this year; once in April and then in June. Even though I felt low and alone, I made the decision to release this demon of addiction and get my life back! I had literally thrown my life to the wind. Then I saw it was time for a change, and I called about getting into a treatment program that utilized Suboxone, followed all the necessary guidelines, and now almost two months later I am a walking testimony that the program works if you work it; plain and simple! Like you, I obtained two degrees these last five years, Criminal Investigations, and Criminal Justice. Now, I'm going back to school to be a Substance Abuse Ciunselor. I now know that all I've endured is to bring me to this point where I am now able to save life! Living a double life takes its toll, and again I'm humbly giving you sensitive life experience knowledge. But, you speak of a good, clean and sober man that's supportive and loves you so don't you think it's time now to do this for him, if not for yourself! 50 years is a long time to stand beside someone that has an addiction, and to still love you....wow, that's unconditional love in its rarest form!

Sue, Suboxone saved me; it saved my daughter; it saved our life! If you should decide to research it, you will find positive and negative information so ultimately it will be up to what is best needed for you! Keep in mind though that there are always the ups and downs of most medication, and Suboxone (from what I've researched) is hard to detox from. However, now as it is, there is maintenance treatment- which is short term, just long enough to get through the withdrawals, and long term- meaning, the individual will more than likely remain on it for their lifetime. Again, what's best for YOU!

So Sue, there is no harm in contacting the MAT program in New York, and for when and where you move to in Florida. Speak with someone who can give you absolute information, that way you're prepared. That is KEY! Oh, and BTW, if you give Suboxone a try, you will find that you don't even miss the drugs! Won't even really be thinking about them for real, and if a thought does happen to pop up, I've found that it comes and goes. No anxiety, no excessive thoughts, no NOTHING! It is definitely worth it to me, and I intend to do all I can to remain on this path I'm on now. I feel great! Not where I want to be but where I need to be, so I'm just taking my time walking this path and listening to my spirit, my intuition- not gonna make this about religion, but it is about faith! ONLY A MUSTARD SEED! Just know Sue that I am here, and I understand. I get it! So, anytime you need a friend, just holla out! Also, if you decide to give Suboxone treatment a try, just know that you're inducted on a low dose, and then increase every 30 mins to an hour, while still in the doctors office, and you'll do this until you reach a dose to where you feel no more withdrawal symptoms. Dosage only goes as high as 32mg, and after that, there is no more benefit! So, taking any more than 32mg is useless, unless you gtmet your kicks off by wasting your meds :) anywho, this is just a little insight into what you can expect on your first treatment appointment. Oh, and you also have to be in withdrawals to start Suboxone. But, you've tried it before so you should know. Ttyl Sue!

I am always short every month for usually 5 to 8 days so I take suboxone 2 times a day so I don't go into withdrawals. U said in order for me to get into MAT program and get prescribed suboxone I need to be dope-sick? I feel it's the only way for me to give up the oxycodone scripts as I have been an addict for over 50 years. Been in numerous TCs rehab day treatment programs therapy over 30 years. Etc. I am doing better than ever now. Do not do heavy street drugs anymore. Just use my script each month. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I am planning on going to MAT program in Florida as I am moving there. I want to get suboxone and outpatient therapy. Please tell me I have to put myself in withdrawal to ask them for suboxone? I have taken those before when I was short on my oxycodone so I no I need 16mg a day. Any feedback on this is appreciated.
