Denise,

They can do it with a mouth swab sent to the DNA lab.

The evaluation runs around $3,000 currently and Medicare should cover this.

I am an ultra rapid opioid metabolizer, that means I need higher amounts and that pills do not work in short.

Hi.. I originally started this post but have been ill and just checking responses. If you are responding to me ky thanks.. I know it's hard for people to believe but I didn't get kicked out of my pain management, I fired them..my neurosurgeon referred me there like 6+ yrs ago, the first day I went in he ask what was the problem then ask what I have been taking before coming there.. I told him.. He said "sounds fine I'll keep you on that"..i should have had an idea then he was an i****, I was sent there because what I was taking, nothing helping.. Duh.. I'm here to see what you can do.. Well for 6 yrs.. Same 2 narcotics.. But sure wanted to pump me full of every kind of back inj. out there.. My neurosurgeon told them I had 10yrs of steroids..i wasn't a candidate but I was willing to try inj's. to my facet joints (anything, along with a bad back I have horrible Patel arthritis everywhere including back.. Even on my jaw joints, I had a hip replacement at 46..when this man did 4 levels both sides at once, should been another red flag, after I had 8 bandaides, 4 down left spine 4 down right...drs should only do 2 levels at once...i started seeing another Dr in his office, saw twice third time went in a strange man, my Dr left and no-one told me.. My dentist and oral surgeon wrote them letters saying my long term med was rotting my teeth, I didn't lose last baby tooth or get first cavity 'til 35..but after 8yrs on this med, cavities in all, 2 root canals, lost 3...this Dr basically said my dentist and oral surgeon didn't know what talking about, told me I had 2 choices leave things as is or find someone else who I would be happier with.. He actually gave me my scripts for 2 mos. So didn't kick out.. I didn't want stronger.. I was happy if he just weaned me off and left 1 med better losing teeth... I ask to surgeon to send me to someone else and told what happened, he referred me, I had appt, so I canceled with other and told I found someone else. Even tore up his second script.. A week before my appt new Dr called, they said had to cancel the Dr was in hospital, had heart attack.. Said they would reschedule when he was well.. Weeks past, they called said sorry the Dr wasn't going to take any new pts on because he has to cut back his hours so was barely going to have room for existing pts... My luck.. I had already told other I found someone else.. I even called them and asked if I could reschedule.. They said I left and they never could help me before so wouldn't be any help now...if this had happened before all the new laws I would had a lot to choose from but happened after all these laws for pain doctors so several in area closed. I didn't go see others but when reviewed it was clear most were so scared of these strict laws that all I found, cut their existing pts meds back and didn't want to start new pts out on enough to do anything...i had ask if anyone recommended a compassionate pain Dr in ky, and haven't read all posts but thanks to everyone anyway but now not just my neurosurgeon wants me in pain management, my orthopedic surgeon (who handles my arthritis and surgeries) and my family Dr also want me in pain management because I have got worse, I'll never be healed, no cure for anything I have, I've been on disability for 18yrs.. injured first 21 yrs ago.. I'm only 48..just keeping me halfway comfortable is best anyone can do.. With all my doctors referring me.. They agreed on same one so guess I'm gonna start from scratch.... Can't make me any worse.. Yes in hindsight, if I had known what was gonna happen, and the suffering I've had since, I probably would have just said pull my teeth give me dentures and keep on same meds but who would known.. My luck.

This is a retraction to my last response ..im sorry ky.. I thought I was responding to your post but it was P450Metabolizer responding to you... Lol.. So I stand corrected I guess my last response is to P450, and after seeing the mistake, you were not responding to my original post, I see now you were responding to ky.. Now is everyone confused...lol.. But I am proof that not everyone leaves pain managements against their will, there are some of us who jump before thinking and fire the docs and it was a stupid thing to do, at least until I had a sure thing to replace him...lesson learned.

Thanks. I have a suspicion that I may have the same issue. I have Medicaid, not Medicare. My guess is that they will not cover this. I appreciate the info!

Ann,

Oregon is very dry and very strict, asking for any type of medication in that state will avoid getting it.

Why are you against long acting medication? If you truly have chronic pain and need a rheumotologist you need to realize what is going on with government intervention in medicine here.

Denise,

It could be covered but regardless of this situation the government intervention in opioids being prescribed it won't help.

All it does is tell your physician why you metabolize rapidly if the insurer is cutting people off drugs, your physician is worried about liability issues it won't matter at all.

Keikee, I just received a response from Mike De Wines office asking me what sort of solutions I thought might be helpful, so I responded back, my dr told me it is De Wine to get a hold of and I did, I will see what their response is to my last letter witch I just finished writing, something has to be done, cutting us all off is not the answer.

I received a response to my letter written to Mike De Wines office, I think I will be getting another one, we need more of us to write to him and his office with our concerns , so please , anyone in Ohio, please take the time to write to his office, the more of us that get involved the better chance we will have fighting this problem, I cannot do it alone.

Margie,

This problem has been going on since 2014. If your physician is cutting you off or down just hang in there because your problem is federal and you need to research links we have all posted on fighting this cause with our Senators for years now; blowing off now makes it seem as if you knew nothing.

Check my old posts and those of others. This is nothing new.

Keikee thanks , I was so upset about the whole situation when my doctor told me to write our congressmen, then he mentions De Wine, I know he is the Attorney General, thanks for you pointing that out. More of us need to contact his office. Please get the word out and write to him yourself,
Thanks

Yes, I have known this has been going on, and I have been doing things to research, and to be honest it is hard enough to fight the government I am a bit shocked to say the LEAST you would make a comment that I knew nothing. I get enough BS from doctors, I go on here for support, not to be made to feel like I am some i****, geeze thanks for making me feel even worse then I already do. I guess u have all the answers.

Nanarobin67, one of the side effects of long term opiate use is damage to the teeth. I'm surprised that your dentist and oral surgeon aren't aware of this. If you continue to take opiates, the damage to your teeth will continue.

Ky40214 , if you were dismissed for breaking the pain contract or other rules, you may find it difficult ,if not impossible, to find a dr that will treat your pain. What are the drs that you have contacted said ? They will want to get a copy of your medical records from your last pain dr. They reason you were dismissed and the details will be in there.

I am 46 yrs old and I have been on Norco for over 3 yrs and I have taken them responsibly but I moved because of my husband's job and now my primary care doctor in Kansas would give me scripts for my morphine since I can't get into my new internal medicine doctor till July 8th and it's only May 5th but he refuses to give me anymore scripts of the Norco. I take it for breakthrough pain and I receive disability witj Norco listed as one of my medications. Is this malpractice? I didn't know a dr can take you off something cold turkey because of the problems with my pain level plus how long I have been taking it. What can I do?

With as much respect as this deserves,BL, you should know that
A. your response to Ky is redundant, as it's been responded to already & in a tactful, helpful manner.
B. Did you actually read all of Nana's post? Her dentist is aware of what the medication is causing, so again, redundant.

My husband is in severe pain. His primary care doctor cut him off of his norcos due to law changes. We live in Dallas. Does anyone know of a doctor who will prescribe them with no hassle? We have insurance. Please let me know.
This is crucial. Hes in so much pain. Thank you
