Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 89)
UpdatedI have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!
Someone recently told me they went to the E/R and was helped to avoid withdrawal. I am soo sorry Kay33.
Mtn Grl: that post about him saying they'd be in a nursing home all day today was in response to me right???
If so, thank you so much! I wonder if he just scheduled it incorrectly or moved me and didn't let me know...ahhhhhh, *shrug*
Hopefully will be able to see them tomorrow!
Thanks again!
Muchlove,
K
Hello Rainbow , did u get help ? Last we spoke you were upset at Doctor and we're looking for new place .
Lucy let me ask if we go 2 the er arent we suppose 2 say we are on pain management? Or is the person who went 4 withdrawals nt a pain managment
Kay, yes, sorry... It was to you. I know he has Saturday appts... Def call!!!
Hope you are doing ok!
CoSusie I think those of us who post the most have tried many different modalities for pain relief and we are to the point where meds are the best way to control the pain we deal with everyday. This is an open forum and a lot of people read vs. those who post, so you've got to be cautious about what you put out there because you don't know who is really reading it. I myself have spent 20 years trying everything but surgery which I refuse to have for many different reasons. I was a medical assistant and I am well aware of the condition I deal with and the odds of a successful surgery. I don't think anyone purposely meant to ignore you, maybe we are just a little to cautious. :) to list everything that is wrong with us and all that we have done to help our conditions. I am more than happy to speak with someone privately :)
I too would be interested in knowing the name of the analgesic pain cream that is being used, if that is something that could be shared with the group.
Does anyone know if suboxine helps with pain without giving u a drowsy feeling? I drive for a living and dont like the drowsy feeling I get from my meds. Will it still help with my pain also? Dont know much about that medicine?? Thanks for the input!!!
The person who went told me they were out of patches and the ER helped. She was on pain mgmt.
I'm sorry...don't know all the details.
No I was just askin wasnt tryin 2 be nosy I was gonna go 2 tha er myself but got scared n backed out .
Dime bag, Yes! Suboxone, taken as prescribed won't make u sleepy or high but control the pain! As with any meds, not taken as directed, it does have side effects! Some folks take it strictly for pain control but it can also b used for decreasing side effects of narcotic withdrawal! It's prescribed 2 ways! One with narcan, a medication to reverse the effects of the narcotic in a very small dose and the other without narcan! Best to ask your doc which would b better for u! Hope this helps!
Sorry, previous post to Mnt should have been to COSusie!
JaneyGirl, thanks for the response!! Im tired of having the drowsy feeling just to get pain relief. I will get with my doctor. Thanks again for the response!! Greatly appreciated! !
You can get help from the Er as long as your not on a pain contact .And if you do go all they do once they check your pharmacy med history is a non narcotic.
JaneyGirl,
Sorry it took all day for me to respond, but today is the beginning of the "medication saga" that goes on in my life every month. Closest larger city to us is the Springs and it sounds as if you guys are Denver-Aurora area. Not that someday (hopefully not) I may have to make that drive, if the problems here continue LOL.
First let me say that I am aware that being in chronic pain and needing pain medication can totally consume and rule your entire life. When my body betrayed me, my whole life changed and I have had to learn about doctors, pharmacies, all the rules that seem to change constantly, in addition to just trying to function on a daily basis. I have a dear friend whose back is totally shot and he faces the same problems that I have had almost every month for over 3 years.
We thought we had problems at our clinic, but they were nothing compared to what happened when our doctor retired last year. His replacement began with "this clinic writes too many prescriptions for narcotics and I'm here to stop all that". Great, just what we wanted to hear!!! Not, we are going to evaluate each patient on an individual basis, and may be changing the treatment program for some of you, no that would have been too compassionate. She tried to kill me by prescribing medication that I can't take and it was a whole huge horrible experience.
Anyway, I do understand how consuming and scary it can be to have changes to your pain management, the program that was working for you, that made you able to function.
Thank you for responding, it's very kind of you.
MtnGrl,
Sorry too, seems we started off wrong. All I was trying to say to rainbowflowers is that Dr Safdar may just be a jerk, but assuming that he doesn't know any of you, he is going on what he's reading in the posts. He/she shouldn't do that, but it's all any of us really have to go on.
My doctor at our clinic retired last year, and his replacement was awful. She tried to kill me, and others too I'm sure, cause she was "anti narcotic" regardless of any one persons condition, she said "I'm here to stop all that". She changed everyone's pain management program and didn't care if the change was effective or not. Very heartless lady. I understand that any changes to, or anyone talking about changing, a program that is working for you, is scary and can consume your life.
Pain medication is a huge part of many of our lives, because we can't function without the help. I depend on my pain medication to allow me to approach the day and perhaps on "good days" to function almost like a normal person.
Cindy,
May be I wasn't saying it to rainbowflowers very clearly, but that Dr Safdar may be a jerk, I have no idea, but unless he does secretly know some of you (LOL) all he has to go on is the posts, and they have been consumed by clinic and pain med information. Before I upset someone, I am not anti narcotic, a narcotic pain medication is a huge part of my pain management program and I wasn't able to function before my previous doctor at a clinic added it. Then I got a horrible replacement when he retired who tried to kill me with "designer drugs" LOL.
I'm lucky because a friend was able to get me into a doctor (who wasn't taking any patients, he has a several year waiting list) who is a wonderful, compassionate, and capable doctor. He did all the diagnostics over again (didn't change my pain management program prior to receiving all the results), and over the past year we have made some changes, but the program still has narcotic pain medication involved. All changes are made slowly, allowing me time to adjust.
Cindy,
Don't know which analgesic pain cream you're referring to, but, my doctor prescribed a cream. It's manufactured by ALPHA direct compounding in AZ. The can says Ketoprofen 10%, Lidocaine 5%. Inflamax K.L. My insurance wouldn't cover it, but ALPHA had a sliding scale payment available, so I was able to afford it. Not a replacement for any of my medication, but has been very effective as an addition.
Hope that's some help.
You are very right that it's a public forum, and there's certain information that I wouldn't feel comfortable sharing with the world, such as the name of my doctor LOL. He isn't taking patients anyway, so putting his name out there would just be a very bad idea.
I'm so happy to help! 20 years ago a chiropractor ruined my perfectly healthy back, leaving me with a totally numb left leg, 2 small boys and 5 years of PT, doc's and rehab just to b able to walk! I've done all therapies u could ask for! In addition I am in the health profession and ran a pain management program! I have many resources but they r decreasing by the minute due to new regulations and liabilities! Many doc's just aren't going to risk their license over a few irresponsible clients! In the Springs there are two doc's that could be a good resource for u and at least get u connected and in the right direction! There's a Dr Juetersonke (not sure of spelling), I think he's still on Union! He specializes in "difficult patient's" that docs no longer want to deal with! At minimum he will get u started in the right direction and refer u to someone who maybe more educated in your specific issues! He is an extremely good doc that focuses not just on your pain issues but your health in general, has resources for all modalities, acupuncture, bio-feedback, holistic as well as medical background! I'd try him first, as I said he would also provide medications u may need until u have both decided on a treatment plan that is agreeable to both of u! A good mix of east meets west medicine! The other doc that I know in your area is Dr Floyd Ring! I'm not sure if he's still practicing pain management, any longer other than interventional pain management such as injections, blocks and of that sort but he is a wonderful doc but I believe u would probably need a referral to see him!
And yes, there is a TON of discussion about the clinics going on right now! CPR has had a ton of changes, lots of difficult transitions and discussions have been centered quite a bit about that as many of the folks here have been there! With pain management, getting medications filled and changes in DEA laws everyone has been fearful of what will occur! I can't say that their fear is not for good reasons because most of the folks on here are legit pain patients, not folks with simple back aches that were over medicated from the beginning and decided they liked life better on meds than not! Most are true pain patients, simply trying to find the best fit for their needs! Their frustration, nervousness and fear are legit and I have encouraged all to write all their congressmen, representatives and such to make them more educated in what we deal with on a daily basis! I feel very comfortable speaking for most of the doc's and pharmacists I've dealt with and they are equally discouraged and upset that they r having their hands tied, having medicine allotments cut per month, being told maximums they r allowed to prescribe and not b able to treat their patient's appropriately! As many have boasted about the decrease in narcotic over dosages and deaths, they won't tell u how many H over doses have increased as medications and making most patient pay out of pocket up front have made pain management almost unaffordable! Almost all clinics, even the one man set ups are requiring u to pay up front now, unless they r set up for your specific insurance! Some require as much as $300 for the first visit! It's shameful that those of us who have been treated for years, now live in fear that tomorrow their doc maybe gone! I joined this group pretty close to when MAC started this group as my primary doc also was certified in pain management and suboxone rx! In one foul swoop we had 30 days to find a new doc! I was given a list of "Doctors Against Pain " of which there was ONE doc on the list that actually do just prescriptions! The rest either quit their pain management or just did interventional treatment! The anxiety that folks r feeling r with good reason! These aren't folks that sit on a couch pop a beer and a few drugs and watch tv, these r good folks, working, going to school but simply can't enjoy let alone live without medication! I've spoken to patient's who r going to legit doc's that have had their medications dropped to a fourth of what they were on, simply because of new guidelines provided by Medicare and the such! It's shameful that good doc's and good patient's no longer can agree to a treatment plan without feeling like they r being watched! These folks, like u and me, just want to b able to live our lives! Enough of my soapbox and I would encourage u to write your reps and Mr Obama to help educate them as to pain patient's needs and allow doc's to actually b allowed to what they r trained to do, treat patients! I'm not sure how bad your pain is but without meds, I run about a 8-9 and with med, at best 3-4 and am happy with that! I can function! I can live! I hope this gives u some help and if neither of these guys can't help, let me know, I can help find you others! There r some good clinics on the southern side of Denver, more in the Castle Rock, Parker area that wouldn't be as far for u! You take good care and keep in touch !
Dr hong 720-519-1236 he sooo easy to deal with. Not judgemental at all
