Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 38)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Are you still active here?

I'm new in the area and need to transfer a pain management regimen from another State. Eventually, my old dr. will want to see me again to keep writing, and I won't be able to go.

You say the doctors don't know you and your life, well you don't know the life of an opiate addict apparently. It sucks that people who need them have a hard time getting them but opiates are intense drugs. Dependence leads to addiction in a lot if people and they have to watch out for their patients and themselves. The fact that you're young and unwilling to humor them and try a different approach is drug seeking behavior whether or not you are.
Don't put down the addicts. It could happen to you one day.

Are you talking to me? And if they don't need them for pain I don't have sympathy for them. A week of a super bad flu and it is done with. But people just want to feel high. I have no sympathy. Those people make it SOOO much harder for us legitimate patients to get the medications we need, and it makes us look like addicts just like the people who abuse them. Physical dependency just comes along with having to take them every day for intractable pain, but that is different than taking prescription pills to feel high. Sorry, you can talk as badly about me as you want. If you have pain and need them, I completely feel for you. But otherwise, get on suboxone or stop taking them and deal with a week of withdrawals. It's not fair to the rest of us who are actually chronic pain patients. DOES ANYONE ELSE BACK ME UP ON THIS???? And btw, I do chiropractic, massages, inversion therapy, physical therapy twice a month because that's all I have money for, I've done IV's, I stretch 3 times 15 minutes a day. I sleep with pillows under my legs, or between them if I'm on my side. I do everything I am supposed to be doing to try to get my back conditions better, My doctor understands and is very kind to me because he knows what my daily life is like. Not to mention I've never ever ever failed a UA. And what approach am I supposed to be trying??? I do everything I'm supposed to. And I'm a straight A student at UCD. I saw an orthopedic spine surgeon and he said surgery would do nothing so my only options are alternative therapies like the ones I've stated I do. Physical therapy, inversion therapy, I carry a back support pillow to school and a thing to sit on to help my low back posture and have a lumbar support cushion in my car all the time. I take supplements, I just ordered the total gym to finance it on my credit card to be able to work and strengthen my back to help support my spine. But between the over a half a dozen herniated discs, 70% spinal stenosis, arthritis in my facet joints, scoliosis and kyphosis and all the skating and boarding I used to do I will NEVER be back to 100%. But I would appreciate you judging me right off the bat. I do know the life of opiate addicts. I lost my sister because her doctor over prescribe her and she tended to take too much anyway, my brother has had serious alcohol and opiate problems. I've lived it all around me. SOOOOO next time unless you have something constructive to say please get off my forum. And by the way, I feel for the doctors too. They constantly have DOPE FIENDS lying to them and it puts their licenses on the line. And now the DEA is stepping in putting their balls in a vice because of DOPE FIENDS!!!! That is why I have issues with addicts. They may not be bad people but I don't approve of their actions and how they live their lives. I have to take these to even live a SEMI normal life. They take them to feel high and be in lala land end up ruining it for true chronic pain patients because now we're automatically looked at like dope fiends for wanting to have our pain managed. And you know nothing about what I'm willing to "humor" the doctors with. I've been on these for years. I've had to humor PLENTY of times unit we found the right dosage and meds. No hard feelings but that judgement really kind of pissed me off. If anyone has a comment about this post or his, please share. I'm curious what chronic pain patients have to say about the topic.

Oh I back you up. It irritates the crap out of me that all of those people who want to a "high" make it difficult for those of us who want to get "up" to ground level so we can function.

I've taken "too much" morphine before and I don't like it. I cannot understand people who do. There is an amount which knocks the otherwise unbearable pain down to a level which allows me to function. Otherwise, I have to drink it away, which makes me stupid besides the other issues.

My first experience with morphine was in the hospital in 1982. I had been on a drip...morphine, ringers lactate, largon...for nine days. I don't remember a thing, but I was told that I told them "I don't need that junk anymore".

I was ok for years, but then the old injuries have come back to haunt. I finally gave up on just "taking it" after my use of alcohol got out of hand and convinced a Dr. at home that I needed it. Actually, my daughter who runs in those circles got me a morphine pill. I tried it and slept through the night for the first time in years. My wife went with me to the Dr. and helped convince him. She was going to divorce me if I didn't quit drinking...which I have, as I don't like the way that makes me feel either, when enough of it is used to stop the pain. After a month, I added Fiorinal-3 as a topper and the combination actually works. Most days, two of each. Some days three. Bad days four. Averages around three a day. Sometimes, an extra Fiorinal-3 for quicker pain relief.

Without them, I am impossible to live with. Pain prevents me from even functioning. Mostly sciatica, but also neck, foot, hip and about four other areas of my back... including where it appears to have been broken (which wasn't noticed at the time).

I intentionally do without it one or two days a month just to clear it out of my system, and those days I do NOTHING. If I do ANYTHING, it causes a lot of pain. In order to have any sort of life at all, I need the pain relief it provides. Those who want it and take it without needing it are stupid to me.

You know Mac I back you up and that comment was not only inappropriate but obviously uneducated. At my pharmacy, a DEA agent stated that this "push" has decreased oxy use by 30%, when asked what it's done to H use, he refused to answer. The reality is that it's increased H use by equal or more and H deaths have done nothing but increase. Now I'm not saying there aren't folks out there drug seeking and Dr shopping, because there are but there are equal amounts of people with intractable pain that are law abiding, jumping through all the appropriate hoops and still not getting the care that is needed. Most of the people that have taken medications on a long term basis and as ordered, will report no feeling of "getting high" and only find that the medications allow them to function in a somewhat normal manner, I don't know anyone who reports no pain, even when medicated. I function with a 4 on a pain scale of 10 and thank goodness for this. For those of you who are new or don't participate on a consistent manner, I've been involved since Mac started this much needed forum and am a health professional, who managed a Pain Management Program and haven't for a minute, ever questioned Mac's need for medication or that he in any way has abused medication use. We participate in this forum to help folks who have been caught in not being able to find appropriate help and although sometimes people either tell the dosages they are on, we all realize that each person needs are different. Everyone here has something to contribute but attacking people isn't the way to go. This isn't a group to be in, if all you want is to be high or attack those who need medications to function. If help is what you want, then you are in the right place.

I completely agree. I went from 16 to 18 Witt my pain just getting worse and worse. I had to stop skateboarding which I loved. I couldn't snowboard. I couldn't sleep over at my buddy's because I had to sleep in my nice bed otherwise I couldn't get a lick of sleep with how much pain I was in. So finally I went to a family friend doctor who wrote me percocet and I FINALLY could live life without being a grumpy a**hole who's constantly hating life because of chronic pain. It changed my life having chronic pain, and meds FINALLY allow me to be able to go to school, make music, although I still am not supposed to jump run or lift any weight bent over. But I can actually live somewhat. I don't go out often because concerts kill my back and I used to go ALL THE TIME. All I know is even 3 years ago it was so much easier for us to be treated. And we need to get it back to that point and start making sure that addicts who just want to be high are being shot down by doctors so we aren't thrown in the bunch with the rest of addicts. Yes we're physically "addicted" but that's just how pain meds work. But we don't abuse them and we have reason to take them. I am done being told I need to give addicts a break. They destroy families and they need HELP, NOT MORE PILLS!!!! I WISH WE THREW MY SISTER INTO REHAB AGAINST HER WILL BECAUSE NOW SHE'S GONE FOREVER AND HER CHILDREN WILL NEVER KNOW HER!!!!! ALL because she wanted to feel high of pills. Sorry, but I will never say it's ok. It kills people and destroys families!!!! And don't tell me how I act with my doctor or what I've done to humor them. I don't humor them, I do EVERYTHING I can to help my back besides taking meds. I just need that part to be able to do the other alternative therapy things.

You have to love it when you confront some social engineering government goon with a question they cannot answer because it shows how ineffective their "programs" are. As far as government control is concerned, what business is it of theirs what I put in my body anyway? Who's body is it? Are we children? Is government parent?

We complain of "population problems" but try very hard to defeat Darwinism by ensuring the survival of the stupid. I say legalize everything, remove all warning lables and let the population problem take care of itself. Only those smart enough to live long enough to reproduce will. You can take that as an extreme viewpoint if you like, but is it any less extreme to jail people for the "crime" of ingesting some chemical that they choose to ingest? Really?

Look how much of our limited resources are consumed by caring for the incarcerated who are jailed for crimes against themselves? Look how much of our resources are consumed by enforcement of the regulations which make it difficult for people to get what they need simply because we want to make it difficult for some to get what they want because we "know what's best for THEM".

For a "free" nation, we have more regulations than any single person can comprehend and a higher percentage of our population incarcerated for violations of those regulations than any other nation on earth.

My wife has thyroid issues. The proper treatment for her is a Wilson's Temperature Syndrome Protocol every 10 years or so...but there are no more than two licensed Dr's who will administer that protocol in any given State...so...we purchase the medicines in Mexico and do the protocol ourselves. All a Dr will do is put her on Levothyroxin for the rest of her life, which only partially "treats" her "symptoms". The WTS Protocol will fix the actual issue for a decade or more.

Pain management is no different. What actually works is extremely difficult to get "legally". Why? What is accomplished by this? A monopoly on opiates which drives wars in Afghanistan and other countries where poppies grow well and has for centuries? Add the military budget for our presence in Afghanistan to the "real" cost of managing "drugs" at the level we do. It is absolutely insane.

Kuaka you laid it down perfectly. It might be extreme but I don't disagree.
