Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 29)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Merry Christmas to everybody. Does anyone know whats a comparable medication to 25 mcg 's of fentanyl. It can be a real pain to get the right brand of the Duragesic patch at times. I deeply appreciate if anyone can help. Thanks a bunch.

I never said it was too much. I was just curious whether or not they are long acting or short because almost no doctors write two instant release opioid medications. I'm not judging you at all lol. I was just curious because chronic pain is normally long acting and then instant release for breakthrough. Like OxyContin. That's long acting. And Oxycodone, or what you call percocet, is instant release. They both have the same active ingredient: Oxycodone, but Oxycontin is released over 12 hours.

Thorsen, The only patch like drug is fentanyl, which does come in lollipop form also or Lidocaine patches! They do use the lidocaine patches sometimes with a long acting narcotic like morphine sulfate, long acting oxy's, codeine or Opana which is a combo medication with dilaludid as one of the drugs! That's most of the long acting ones I can think of right now but these guys may have ideas also! U have a Merry Xmas also!

Wow, You guys have good Dr's mine just cutt me off my meds. Well I got a letter saying they can no longer be my Dr because I did not comply with the opid contract they are right I didn't because I couldn't find a job yeah the Dr sent me a letter saying sense I have not gotten a job they can no longer be my Dr so I am really f***ed cause no Dr are writing scripts now day's so I gotta figure out how I can manage to find a Dr asap I am on 15 mg oxycodone 5 a day and I could use more a day but now with my Dr pulling this shady ass deal on me I'm a lil worried im gonna be going threw withdraws and im not looking forward to that I just wish I could find a good Dr in Maryland

Everyone is different like me I for some reason can't take the long acting oxy so in till they put a different formula of it out I am only on short acting but I am only on the low dose anyway so they said they can't change me anyway. I hate fillers. Merry Christmas to you all!

CJK, don't feel bad, I know of many that have gotten similar letters, just not for not getting a job! My doc sent a similar letter to all pain patients in his practice! In talking with many of the patient's they didn't get the "I decided to stop treating pain patient's" but another one that said due to "not complying with your pain contract" letter! I felt bad because the patient's I talked to tried to comply but pharmacies couldn't fill their scripts due to them not having the meds, resulting in them having to ask for additional scripts! He didn't care that the pharmacies backed them up, he just didn't like "writing additional scripts" and "making him look bad"' I think there was much more to the story! There r several national groups such as "Doctor's Against Pain" and many of the ER'a or nurse call in lines have lists u can get! Don't get too discouraged, it's tough right now and they say especially so because of the Affordable Medical Act but there r doc's out there! Colorado is the second hardest state to find doc's and have the 2nd strictest rules so if we can find doc's u can too! Use your Internet and be creative how u use your search engine! It does make a difference! Good luck! And Tammy, I'm on your side, them screwing around with these fillers ticks me off! They do it to discourage folks that abuse these meds but I like u, notice a HUGE difference one brand to another! With my heart arrhythmia I can't take many drugs and in most cases, it's the filler that's the issue! It ticks me off and most doc's aren't even aware of them! All I can say is thank God for CPR!Merry Christmas to all!

CJK I had the same thing happen. But it was for NO REASON!!!! It was just because the higher ups in his practice said no more writing pain meds. He is still my PCP, but he can't write pain meds anymore. So I got one more month and a boot in the rear just because of other patients Dr shopping in other states and his higher ups shutting it down. So I know your pain brother. Just have faith and stay vigilant. I saw about 8 doctors before Tammy finally pointed me in the right direction. And boy am I glad I started this forum because I would have kept going until I found CPR. Which who knows how long that would have taken. And this forum seems to have helped others which makes it even more worth it. I know it's hard with all the recreational users or even legitimate pain patients who can't take what they're prescribed screwing it up for those of us in pain who REALLY need the monthly medications to even have a SEMI normal life. Just stay positive man. I know it's hard. But you will find one if you are persistent. I wish you the best of luck. The pain patient community across the nation needs to take a stand and start writing our REPS to get some of these nooses loosened. But maybe the new year will bring something new and positive for all of us. Keep your head up brother. I wish you only the best.

I just received my Fentanyl prescription for 15 patches. I went to the drug store and said my insurance changed and only I get the Mallinckrodt brand. I had tried these and hardly last foe a day. I usually take the real Duragesic which are the Janssen brand. I had to pay 550 dollars out of my pocket to get the Janssen brand. Please somebody out there have any suggestions so I can get the cost down or have any other suggestions at all I would deeply appreciate any advice! Thanks, need help! PS: I take 25 mcg strength.

I'll look around and see what I can find out! I know u can get coupons for the patches but until then u might want to try the sleeves with the others and see of they help! There is a place called Needymeds! They r really helpful in helping to pay for your meds! If your Dr writes for just the patches that work and says generic isn't ok, your insurance may pick up more then or then Needymeds can probably help! It's that "substitutions allowed" that really screws things up! I understand entirely! I'll look around and see what else I can find out!

CKJ that's just flat bs! Your Doc should have had all that set up PRIOR to your surgery and shouldn't have had to be getting ok's once it's in! Most folks who have the pump in also do Have breakthrough meds also! Why they wouldn't give u something especially in a controlled area, it's nuts! I'd be looking elsewhere also! I don't know that I can help but I will look around and c if there's anyone that can give u a hand! We all feel your pain and believe me, if we can help we will but most of is know of folks just in this area! Please do as Mac suggests and write to your rep! Basically doc's hands are tied right now and they need to b untied to help their patient's! Unfortunately part of the issue is that disability is a "supplement" and part of pain management is to help get patient's up and doing something! Many of the doc's use this as a "carrot" where reality is it maybe years or never for someone to return back to work! It's old school thinking and needs to change! Hang in there!

Call around to different pharmacies and tell them that's your pain med you're prescribed and ask them if they can keep it in stock because those are the only ones that work well for you. Also, I was on Duragesic fro Mylan for 4 months recently, I switch between it and methadone for my long acting and I think they work great but only for about 48 hours, so I put them on every 48 hours per my docs order. But try using Bioclusive patches to seal them onto your skin. You can find them on amazon. I had a horrible problem with the patches sticking, and once I got those I could do ANYTHING with the patch on and it would even lift a corner. Hope this helps.

Thanks JaneyGirl, Mac, and Rainbow for your great advice to help with paying for the Duragesic patches. I will follow all your great suggestions to see if it will help. It's a nice thing getting the advice I need from people that understand. I sincerely appreciate every single suggestion. You know how hard that some doctors, pharmacies, insurances get in our way to make something so easy so difficult. Everytime we turn around they are passing new laws to make things much more difficult for all us that have severe pain. Thank you so much. I wish I can help with all your question. I appreciate so much!!!! Thorsen in New Jersey.

Don't forget to write or call the company itself! I've found most of the companies awesome regarding your input and most times will send u coupons for freebies or cut the costs drastically! Tammy, just another one of those "filler and making" issues they think r in our heads! Pisses me off! Get in my body,
Walk a day in my shoes and then make a decision if it makes a difference or not! Grrrr! Makes me only want to fight harder!

That's why I started this forum buddy. To help myself and others. And I'm loving seeing it grow into a community of people who understand and are wanting to help each other. It's great to see. But definitely try those bioclusive patches if you're having a problem with the patches coming up on the corners or anywhere else. They are the same kind that they use to hold IVs in place and they stick like CRAZY. You can do anything without having to worry about the patch coming off. And if the 25 MCG isn't working try to go to the 50 or even 75. Because at least with me fentanyl, methadone and Kadian (long acting morphine) are the best for long acting meds. I try to switch it up to keep my tolerance low because methadone is molecularly dissimilar to other opioids, which allows your body to get good pain relief when you start methadone (plus it's cheap) and when you switch back, your other med will work better.
