Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 28)

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

They might manage your pain with Percocet and Tylenol. But I have severe pain issues and am in 240 30s, 150 15s , fentanyl 100Mcg and they would not prescribe that. They preferred me to a pain management clinic which they are not.

Wow i didnt no they didnt give those out im sorry. I thought they did because i had 2 sign a form with all kinds of rules 4 "pain management" i nt that high up tha ladder of pain meds but i do 2 diff 1s and no tylenol. Sorry again i wasnt tryin 2 steer anyone in the wrong direction.i was only trying 2 help.

Honestly Joe, I don't see any clinic prescribing 6 30s a day, 5 15s, and 100mcg of fentanyl. The DEA is cracking down like CRAZY on instant release pain meds and pushing doctors to do more long acting and less breakthru. but let me know if you find a place that is willing to do that many IRs. Rainbow, if you don't mind me asking, what are you prescribed?

I understand completely. I had a fractured neck, several fractures in my T-spine and two operations on my lumber spine. I'm am fully disabled. My pain doctor treats me like an a**hole. I use my medicine just for my pain and do not abuse under any circumstance. I been on the same amount of medicine for 7 years and he won't help with the next dose of medicine. I feel like I"m treated like a dog and drug addict. Where do people get such high doses of medicine. I understand completely. I hardly can function with my pain.

It's sad that the people in severe pain like myself are treated like criminals. How could they let us suffer in pain like we have for other peoples abuse of these medications. So many people have problems with cigarettes and drinking an you still can go to the store anytime to get it. We have to go through hell to get pain relief. At least we try to do legal which is getting impossible anymore. It's really sad and a crime to help people in pain. That should be a crime not to help us!!!!! Thanks

Wow! Lots has gone on while I've been gone! Sadly, I was spending the last days with a friend who lost her battle with cancer! Joe, Mac's right! That's a pretty big dose to be taking! I don't know anyone around that would prescribe even close to that amount! I suspect they would try you on a different combination of meds that are not so sedating, many of these issues that we r facing are from non pain doc's prescribing and inappropriately and having patient's die! Especially combining them with fentanyl! It builds up in your system slowly and what worked for u one week may kill u the next! I've known of three folks just in the past 6 months where this happened! One gal fell asleep while watching a movie with her head on her friend's lap, only to waken to her being dead! It's scary when it hits home with someone u know! I've given lists of other doc's in this thread, look through and find many names! Most of us here now go the CPR, I've found them to b the best and r really happy with their services! Can't believe it's been nine months now! What hit me this month was the difficulty in even finding my meds this past month! The guys up there are shocked also and has to re-write scripts because they could only b partially filled but in addition to that, my scripts were double what they were last month and nothing changed! I was shocked! I'm on what I'd call a lower dose and it was over $300! The pharmacies in my area are pulling out their hair! They go through their "allotment" and since they also fill the local two hospitals, they have nothing left over for new surgical patient's! It just seems to be getting worse and worse! My pharmacist said he wondered if H was going up also! Everyone I know is getting frustrated! The doc's, pharmacies and us! I'm definately writing at this point! Can't hurt, might help, why not? It's not like they don't already know I'm taking this stuff! It's documented in triplicate at this point anyway!

Hi MaC686, Gee your really on such a large dose of methadone plus 5 30 milligrams of other Opioids. It's hard to get a doctor to prescribe such a large amount.. I'm 58 years and I have a rough time with my doctor just to get 25 MCG of Fentanyl and 3 15 mg of morphine a day. Maybe you will find a doctor to look into your pain and how to prescribe some other types of Opioids that can help with your pain. I had 2 neck surgeries,3 lower back surgeries and 6 fractures in my T-spine. I'm in excruciating pain but what I mentioned is all I get to help my pain. If I tell my doctor just to up my Fentanyl patch to 50mcg he gets upset. I take what I can get and suffer to a certain extent. It's sad because I just want to be pain free foe a least of couple of days to feel normal again. These laws the DEA have is just so sad because other people like me deserve to be somewhat pain free with out the hassle. Other legal drugs like alcohol and cigarettes hurt so many people which seems no big deal to the ones that control it. Please help people that really need these pain medicines not the ones who abuse them. The law should be less for doctors who prescribe and people who really need Opioids for pain. Please write your state Representatives to alleviate these crazy laws so people can be pain free. Thankyou

Thorsen, Hi there! U didn't mention if the morphine u take is a long acting one or short acting! Fentanyl is kinda a tricky drug and most doc's r careful when using! It tends to build up in your system over time and what was 25 gm after extended use works closer to 50-100 mg! There have been a lot of folks lost to overdosing on fentanyl especially if u have issues with sleep apnea! Typically doc's will prescribe for u a long acting drug such as fentanyl, morphine or Opana and what they consider a "break through" medication, which is a short acting drug! Most doc's, even though these meds are supposed to b used when you need them, they still will prescribe them on a time achedule to help with not overdosing! If your morphine is an extended release, you may suggest a shorter acting medication or if as you describe, are still in excruciating pain, u may suggest using a different type of similar drugs similar to what I've described above! Morphine, on many folks doesn't work very well as a short release "break through" medication! It maybe why u r having such pain! It's very short acting and doesn't always work as intended for short acting meds! He maybe doing this because of this DEA issues as it isn't as watched as Oxy's but there r other choices for short acting meds to take! As far as Mac's dosage! It really depends on the person, how long u having taken the drug and what they r using the drug for but his dose is pretty "typical" for a long term pain patient and is certainly within norms for someone who has his issues and length of treatment! It's very difficult to compare what one person takes to another's because there are so many variables to get someone on the correct dosage! If it works, dont break it! Prior to CPR, I was definately being over prescribed by a "pain Dr" and having a hard time functioning! CPR switched both the type of meds I was taking and the dosages and it's made a world of difference, so don't be afraid of switching meds and having dosages decreased! It's a hard thing for folks like us to trust that less maybe better but less of a different drug maybe way better! If u have further questions, just write! One of us will be around and give suggestions! Different folks may also have different ideas but your first step is figuring out the morphine! Hope this helps!

Thank you JaneyGirl. I do not feel as though I am on a large amount, I know it seems like it but I am still in horrible pain all day every day. It's all based on individual people and individual pain levels. I have like 7 different back conditions plus they were building up for about 5 years before I got an MRI and was able to start working on the problem. I know it seems like a lot, but like Janey said, you can't compare person to person because everyone is different and all pain levels are different and different meds work differently from one person to another.

Exactly! As I've often said, "u can't judge someone unless u walk a day in his shoes"! Being able to tell whether someone is taking meds for "fun" and taking them to live their life is very telling! U have easily as well been able to pick out the needers to the wanters! Due to medical reasons I can't take methadone, so I don't have much experience myself with it but I do know there r those who swear by it and those who it doesn't seem to work well at all! I do know that dosages seem to have to b titrated to higher doses to get good consistent relief! All of our bodies react differently, what works for me, may not work for others! I personally was shocked when they changed my meds and in "calculating" what an equal dosage from one to another, that I was able to use a much lower dose of a different drug! It kinda scared me a first, as u know it takes a few days for your body to adjust anyway but the thought of being on less meds scared me to death! But as u know, these guys know what they r doing, u just have to trust! Hard to do when u have been to others who have no idea what they r doing! Hi JaneyGirl, Thankyou for your help in this matter. I've been on all types of these pain medications for at least 19 years. Been through the mill starting with 25 mcg of Fentanyl to 100 mcg of Fentanyl with Immediate release morphine of 15 mg three times a day. My doctor switches the medications every so often with other Opioids to get the best pain relief. The problem I'm having is I used the Duragesic Fentanyl gel patches with no problems but they switched me to the sticky small patches after 5 years and then bang, withdrawal system in one day of use. I'm trying to find the gel patches again but having trouble because of an insurance change. I normally take the 25 mcg patches every 48 hours. I deeply appreciate you help. Trying to find the gel patches to get back to normal. I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Hey there! I know exactly which patches u r talking about! A few suggestions, first make sure u know who makes the patch, u can look it up on "medication identifier" and actually call the company and ask what pharmacies carry them in your area! It doesn't Hirt to give them feedback because they may send u discount cards! Always a help! Secondly, if u find out that they still make them, u can always ask your pharmacy if they r able to order them in for u! Some can, some can't because they don't have contracts with the company! Most pharmacies will order them in for u if they know that u will b purchasing them on a monthly basis! If they can't, ask some other pharmacies, they maybe able to order for u! Just make sure if u get another pharmacy to get your meds, let your doc know so u stay within your contract! Many companies stopped making that type because folks were opening, letting the gel dry or lick it off but when dried they would find ways to abuse them! They maybe like they did with extended MS for a time and made them like cardboard so u couldn't do these things! Folks complained too much and they changed them back! The medication identifier is a handy tool for identifying loose meds, check out info and checking our meds u find in your kids jacket or such! I strongly advise that everyone is knowledgable about what's wrong with u and what u r taking! Being a medical professional and having run a pain management program, doc's can't remember facts about every single patient, be smart and educate yourself or let us help u! I have a cool professional program on my computer that can pull up just about anything! As far as your doc changing your short term med! The legal definition of "addiction" is anyone who takes a narcotic medication for over 10 days! That's about the amount of time it takes for your body to get used to the drug! That's why true "addicts" have to up their doses so quickly! So switching them like that actually helps the drug maintain its potency without having to up the dose! I wish more doc's were educated enough to do this as it would keep folks way more comfortable! Even if they picked two meds and just switched them back and forth would help a lot! Long term drugs it isn't as easy to do because the half life is so long and it takes so long to build a base dosage, it wouldn't work as well but I have to take my hat off to him for doing a good job! Believe me, keeping yourself educated is by far the best! There really r no stupid questions and ones that feel "sketchy" arent here! They more than likely have been asked and there is a really good base community here that if one person doesn't know the answer, others will! If one of us doesn't have experience with something, someone will! I certainly understand with the duragesic patches! I was on them a lifetime ago! Really didn't think they "worked" until I decided to stop them. Bad mistake! They do work! I also agree that the duragesic's r better! They stick on better, don't fall off in the shower and just generally work better! There r sleeves u can get at the pharmacy to cover the ones u have and they do help! They r like what they put over your IV in the hospital and help them stay in place, don't allow so much water to get under and generally just help make sure u get the meds u r supposed to! Rainbow I think you mean 20mg and 30mg Oxycodone. Percocet only goes up to 10mg. Because that's the active ingredient in ones that don't have tylenol. So you're on 160mg (or 20mg x 8) of it for long acting and 30mg 3 times a day? But where do you go in case something happened with my doctor?

Yes but i only do 6 of tha 20mg a day and 1 of tha 30mg it helps im scare 2 take all im allowed my brother was a addict n od cuz instead of his dr sayin no after his broken arm healed he just kept poppin and poppin and it was morphine he od on. But yes thats the med im on and i just go 2 rocky mt but my dr stops at oxycodne he dnt get any higher

Hi MaC, I understand your situation big time. Pain is no fun at all no matter how old are. Most pain doctors are going a different way to treat pain. The DEA gives them such a hard time it makes me sick. People that are in really like yourself and myself have such hard problems. I seriously injured all 3 areas of my spine. Four operations so far. The pain is terrible even on strong Meds. MAC, I pray to God that you find that Pain doctor you need. I wish I could help. Hate to your in such misery. Sincerely, Thorsen
