Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 260)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

SMALLS Thank you for your reply. I know the prescribing information has changed and previous what needed 1 doctor now needs 2. This is not a problem for me as I was already getting my xanax from my psychiatrist. What bothers me is that my PM doc will no longer let me fill the Rx my psychiatrist gives me. Obviously I could but it would violate my contact. My neurologist also wants me to continue xanax. My neurologist read me the most recent warnings on all benzos. He said that it is not new information by any means and has been well understood for 20 years. The fact that the FDA changed its wording just puts the prescriber at more legal risk than previously was the case. In the Oklahoma thread I did find that quite a few PM docs are allowing patients like myself (who have been on opiates and xanax for a long time) to continue being prescribed both. Some OK PM docs don't require a sleep study and actually write both Rx themselves. I would not switch to a PM who does so as I don't imagine his practice will continue much longer.

Someone at the DEA gave me this link. Hope it works.

I read the link, it is what some would call fake news. The main problem is the ama guidelines, the folks that abuse drugs and the huge increase in illicit drugs. The folks all say oh, I got started down this path cuz of my doc, it's just like antibiotics, people want an immediate fix so the doc writes a script. No one should be written a script for opiates for mild back pain but the doc wants to please the patient. The American wants immediate relief and it's a slippery slope from there, due to all the media and overdoses, docs get scared and stop writing scripts for everyone including valid pain folks. I wish there was an alternative, now the family doc is in over his head, just says stop using, see you later, go to a pain management clinic of which there are very few and we are all judged!

It sucks, I know but I think we are all going to have to go back to living in pain and weaning ourselves off because no one will care when the laws get written lower and lower. Trump is going after pot and I would imagine he will hit Colorado hard on that! My only hope is that he focused on that rather than opiates, as I have never had trouble getting my script filed but I don't mind generic. I think you get in trouble or labeled if you are a knowledgeable patient. I am going to take my pain pill and then start weaning myself off. It sucks but I am of the opinion today that life in general is nasty short and brutish!

Janedoe:

I think you are being realistic in setting a goal to wean yourself off. I tried to taper off my prescribed meds, and did so for three weeks, and then jumped off. I am clean now. I still don't feel very well, and am dealing with knee and back pain. However, I will be one of those to lose health insurance if the Affordable Care Act is repealed. I cannot afford to pay for both pain management and the drugs out of pocket. Also, the ER drug I was prescribed, was suggested to have production cut by 45% in 2017! I see the handwriting on the wall. I am so glad I am done with the worries about what will happen that day I go to fill my meds, and they are no longer available.

I'm searching for anyone that can help me find good medical care in hopes that maybe one day I can return to school and finish what I worked so hard for in 2013. At that time..I was proudly four semesters away from having my BSN with psychology as my minor I worked 15 years as a lead CNA. I specialized in Alzheimer and long term care. On April 23rd 2013 MY LIFE CHANGED. My husband ..myself...and my elderly father in law were all involved in a near fatal vehicle accident. Today my life is much different than it used to be.. Today.. I struggle each day with my daily duties as a mom of three still left at home ...five are fearfully grown.. and keeping up with my life ..and now everyday ..constant pain I am left with. Trust me it was a lesson well learned.. to buckle up... We were not that day and as we flipped and the ceiling caved..I was slammed against the steering wheel. Today I suffer from daily all day neck pain.. as my neck was injured and there was two inches of swelling between my vertebrae. My mid back ..bra line has an Injury. Causing a burning pain...with a electrical shock feeling without warning..I have permanent numbing in my left upper calf..with continued electrical shock feelings without warning causing severe immediate pain..often breathtaking.I have severe neuropathy in my feet causing electrical impulses through them without warning..feels like being stabbed. I had bariatric surgery years before in 2009 that healed many things but seemed to cause as many ailments as it did take away. so today I have severe neuropathy in my back..legs..feet. I have a pinched nerve in my upper back again my waist area. I have intermittent loss of feeling in my feet. So I'm frustrated as I have become nothing but a drugstore...don't have a big stomach yet daily my meds fill my stomach..I suffer from several different pains all day.. burning..electrical.stabbing....so I have to try and function on meds - neurontin 2400 mg.

I take many nutritional supplements as my bariatric surgery caused nutritional issues... I have hereditary anxiety ...problem where I Internalize stress...pain ext..causing me to deal with my stress..pain or whatever by other means.such as rocking..to pulling my own hair out.. I had a care provider that seemed to do all she could for me.. for about a year if been treated with 50 my fentanyl every three days as well as three 20mg oxycodone..as well as no weekly b-12 inner muscle inj's. and a muscle relaxer called methocarbamol. I also take 30 mg cymbalta and two five mg diazepam daily. I reside in a very rural area in Colorado. It's in the San Luis valley. It's three hours approx to Pueblo one way. I am pending g disability with a lawyer so our income is very low.. as we are forced to live on tanf and food assistance. The family does not own a vehicle. I am unsure why but my provider was shut down until further notice.. we were all instructed to find a new provider. this is a challenge for our area as it holds the record for opiates absurdity the doctors are all scared So as many of us legit with medical records know it has made it almost impossible to get our medications. I am searching for a provider who will listen..actually look at our medical records and truly try to help us.. instead of making us suffer. I provided a U/A every month and was on a pain management contract.. I just want someone real not just a pill writer but not just left to suffer either.. but help...so any doctor search help would be appreciated.. Plz so often I wish the pain would just go away...I'd love to wear my scrubs again....plz help even if the medical is out of town. I just have to find help..but can't afford months of trips out of town.. it's all frustrating as it is even painful to ride for hours.

Confused,

Any helpful tips for weaning? Do you use any non-meds like kratom, cannabis, etc.? My concern is those may be illegal soon.

Cadsandra
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but docs won't prescribe diazapem and opiates, your best bet is a drive to new mexico, grand Junction or denver, there is nothing in the mtns, I do denver once a month ,8 hr drive and $200 out of picket, the state will reimburse you st 38 cents a mile with preapproval .
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, have you thought about getting yr associate degree in nursing, then bsn online? Also most hospitals won't hire u to nurse if u take pain meds, too much of a liability due to the bad apples, unfortunately even those of us with pain docs are trying to wean ourselves life just sucks, plus please be careful posting with kids still at home, cps would love that info!!

Janedoe: No Kratom, no cannabis. I did use baclofen as my main comfort med; had some gabapentin, and the clonidine for high blood pressure, racing heart, and anxiety was a godsend. If you talk to your PM doctor, tell him your goals, he may prescribe the comfort meds for you. I would try to wean a lot more slowly than I did... the slower, the better, and the less you will suffer. Good luck!

Problem: My son has had a long time (11 years) issue with addiction and the law. This place (colorado pain relief wheat ridge) not only supplies my son with large amounts of pain killers once a month. He pays a few hundred dollars and walks out only to sell and distribute amongst his circle of drug addict friends. He makes roughly $2,500 in one day by faking a back injury. He ran from the law in Florida when he was hitting multiple pain doctors a week and then selling the meds. His friends are overdosing because of this business. Well, I'm done bailing him out of jail for domestic violence and mental health. Nathan is an addict that needs help but these doctors look the other way and let all these young men use the facility like a toilet. I will be calling all the local news station for help to expose the real truth behind COLORADO PAIN RELIEF AND THE CROOKED EMPLOYEES AND DOCTORS before my son dies of an overdose or kills another friend. My son is a pill dealer not a pain patient. I won't stop till I ***** the doors on this place. Nate has never ever complained about a back ache or any other ailment - I'm his mom and should know. He just gets pills from CPR and then abuses them and vomits till he's out. I want answers.

Concerned, I feel your pain. You're a hundred percent right, they are a pill mill. Anyone with any referral gets meds. I saw kids in there getting their monthly supply to sell. This is exactly why people with real conditions are not getting help.

Hello to all new posters. I just wanted to say that there was a petition i shared on this with only 300 signatures, i checked a few months ago. So I was expecting the gov. to decrease the production of opiates by 25%. I posted a few days back. Humana part D Medicare would not after PA pay for a change in my Dr to oxy er. They are marked OP. I ended up on my og med MS Contin. Humana said they pay for abuse resistant Opana Er. I waited 48 hours for it to help. it has so much plastic on it my body was only getting half the dose cuz the other half of the pill was excreted. So until my next appointment i just asked for my og script.

To the concerned one, that is awful for ur family member to go into this clinic fraudulently. He is lying to them. I beg of you not to hurt the pain patients who are in dire need of meds. I ask that you just call the Dr's office and speak your concern. 95% chance they will stop prescribing for him. This same facility has addiction treatment as well. I don't go to that clinic but a number of ppl go there and they are in real pain.

Mama, I say you are on the right track. I am a pain patient but I do not go online and ask what doctors will give out what drugs and who will give out the most! I go to the pain doctor that my family doctor referred me to... Period. It is seldom that I see young people in the office that I go to. I'm in my sixties and have some pretty severe problems including osteoarthritis and Interstitial cystitis and probably don't get near what these people are walking out of some of these doctors offices with. They have the database where doctors and pharmacists can be sure that patients are only filling pain medications from one doctor; however they have done nothing to stop people who have gotten dismissed/or fired from one or more doctors for a dirty U/A or people that have been arrested for drugs from getting these medications from a doctor. To me it seems like one of the easiest things they could do. I rent out a home I own but before I rent it to anyone I do a background check on them. Where is the background checks. If you've had a problem at some stage of your life it should not preclude you from getting help if you are in pain but you should be getting more monitoring than a little old lady who has broken her hip and has never had any brushes with the law. Besides that I read these posts quite often and I now know so much more than I would have known before. There is a good number of these fakers that also take someone else's U/A into the bathroom instead of using their own because they're dirty. I was a flight attendant before injuring myself and I would have no objection to someone coming into the bathroom with me and making sure that what I put in that cup was actually my own. Lastly if I had a member of my family that was in trouble like this Mother's Son appears to be in; I would much rather have my son in jail for drugs then have him be in jail because his drugs killed one of his friends.

I have read this particular post for a very long time knowing that there are quite a few people that probably do not need the medications that they are getting. The truth is that the gentleman that started this post is no longer with us. Anyone that read enough of the post would see what happened but it's apparent that the people that were supporting him knew that he had a problem but still would not come out and tell him that they knew he had a problem I know it is not good to talk about someone who is no longer with us so may he rest in peace and may those that knew he had a problem share the some of the responsibility for all he lost! Mama do what you gotta do to try to save your son and keep him from injuring or killing someone else with medication that is given to him but he then turns around and sells. God bless you and may you be strong!

Cadsandra, Did you misspell your name? I totally feel for you. I am also victim of car accident. Sounds like you are scared and frustrated. Unfortunately, with all the things you described, your chances of ever going back to your old life are very slim. May I suggest you start thinking of creating a new life. I know it is scary and may even be paralyzing, but can you really imagine yourself standing for 12 - 14 hours a day for 4 - 6 day in a row? Plus lifting, bending and being empathetic to people whom you may encounter who are faking it for drugs? What else would you be happy doing that wouldn't cause your body so much pain and agony? As for a pain doctor in your area, I am of no help, sorry. Do not know that area at all. If you were up to the drive down here once a month, I highly recommend Colorado Pain Relief in Wheat Ridge. The doctors are great, understand and want to help. Have all your records first to shorten your wait. As for your doctor suddenly taking a hiatus, that happened at CPR, a patient that was found with coke in their system was told that they would no longer be welcome or treated at CPR. That patient filed a grievance with the medical board and the doctor was put on immediate suspension. It is still being investigated by the medical board, but the DA has already dismissed the allegations. I see that you said you are on fentanyl, oxy and diazepam as well as neurontin, that would send up flags, whomever you go to, start out by telling them where your health was, where you are at now and where you want to be. Don't talk medication, unless the doctor asks, another flag! Have a journal that says what you are taking, what you have tried, what works, what doesn't work and why. Any adverse side effects that may not be allergic reactions, but still not good. If a medication won't let you sleep, not necessary an allergic reaction, but sleep deprivation is not good. Good luck, I hope you heal both physically and mentally. XOXO

Concerned loved one
I am so sorry you are going through this. Sounds like your son NATHAN NATE is a very charming, convincing liar.
CPR, requires MRI'S and actual doctor referrals to be seen. If your son is doing this, why haven't you just called them and talked to them. I habe been going to them for years. Car accident 5 ruptured disks and more. Why on earth would you want to do harm to other people because your child has never had to suffer the consequences of his actions?
Just call them, ask to talk to someone in charge and tell them your concerns. They may call him in for a "random pill count" which they do sometimes and he would never even know it was you who called.
That is what I would do in your position.
But please know, CPR is not the only pain management clinic and the possibility that your son would just go elsewhere is very high.
Also, your son probably lives with you. The next time he is vomiting because he took to much, call an ambulance. He will have to account for all his medication and if he is short, it will be reported.

FedUp,

I don't know if maybe you are the patient who was discharged for using coke or not, but you may want to stop spreading lies. You must have MRI's, physical therapy records, CT scans and a lot of other documentation before you get a pain management prescription from Colorado Pain Relief. Most patients follow a rigorous routine and we also can't use marijuana, any Benzos, such as valium. It concerns me how many people just jump to the conclusion that it is a pill mill. How are legit patients supposed to be treated? Most primary care physicians such as Kaiser won't treat pain management. I hope that you get to experience what we get to go through one day. May be eye opening for you. Don't judge until you have walked a block in my shoes, karma ALWAYS gives us what we deserve!

Lies, I don't think so. I wasn't discharged for anything thanks. You talk about rumors. You just said I was doing coke ha ha I don't use drugs. The mother has every right to bring attention to CPR. For info they send in fake people to see if they get meds. Food for thought. CPR IS BEING WATCHFUL.
