Updatedsuffering from cronic headaches and neck pain due to a variety of events
Are these docs pain specialists or primary care drs?
Are these docs pain specialists?
moved from Utah back to Oregon. In the 7 years I've been gone Oregon has changed a lot about pain pills. Went to a pain management and they are talking putting needles in my back and giving a cream? 14 Years I've managed my medication and in the whole time only had 3 problems. Why am I being treated like a leper? Grrr....off to "doctor shop". Never had to do this before. I feel weird asking Doctors if prescribing pain medication is something they do. Weird.
Is there anyone known to be more patient friendly in the Northwest Region in Oregon? From Salem to Portland to Lincoln city to Corvallis?
Can u share your doctors name? I am in the same situation on a clinic in Portland and hate it!
Do u petsonally know these doctors u listed? Do they prescribe methadone n how much does it cost to see them? Thanks soo.much!!
I moved here from NYC to Portland OR. Despite the fact that I otherwise love it (or did until I ran out of pain medication. Now I'm pretty much immobile, drink (from 2 glasses of wine a week to daily drinking), instead of taking my muscle relaxers & vicodin. I also take about 2400mg or more of ibuprofen daily). I barely sleep due to the pain. Hurting all the time sucks the life out of you. Acupucture? Aleve? Really? I have 3 herniated discs in my neck and an arthritic, deteriorating lower spine. And I moved to a place where they would rather have good people suffer than run the risk of supplying an addict? In New York State they passed a law where pharmacists had access to the narcotic prescription database. If you present a narcotic prescription to be filled, the pharmacist can look up your record and see when your last narcotic prescription was filled. He/she can refuse to fill doctor-shopping narcotic prescriptions. Worked like a charm! When it took effect, there was suddenly more room in the pain management waiting room. It's so simple, why don't they do this in Oregon? Don't they care about their people?
You know, it's that "holier than thou" attitude which stands in the way of people in actual pain getting the medication (yes, *shudder* narcotics when necessary). You (and it seems from the post, Oregon), are so horrified of junkies getting lit that you would rather see people living in pain, confined to their homes, depressed and approaching suicidal (THIS is my life?), than actually treat them with what has worked. Many people specifically mention opiates because they have been successfully treated with same before. They used to be able to go out and participate in the world, have a measure of quality of life. And, if you've never been on opiates for long term treatment, here's some information for you: people who take opiates long term don't get off on them. There's no party going on. When pain isn't completely eliminated, it is decreased to the point where it can be compartmentalized. You can walk the dog, take the child to the park, clean the house. When you cry, it's because you saw a Lifetime movie or someone died, not because pain has kept you from sleeping for days & it hurts to be alive.

We're you able to get your dillaudid filled?
2400mg or more of Ibuprofen daily is worse for your health than just about any narcotic designed for moderate to severe pain if taken as prescribed. Does your Dr. know or does he just not care.
Do not go near Douglas County unless you have cancer. Most doctors at these clinics doesn't believe that chronic pain exist except in your head like a placebo effect. You go in and talk about pain they'll kiss you off with some Naprosyn, flexeril, and physical therapy and maybe some x rays. But the insurance down here is just as bad. I've had so many x rays on my back and leg but not one MRI. Even when I've had 3 specialists put in the referrals. Unless there is neurological deficit like foot drop, you can ask for MRIs all week and Umpqua Health Alliance will not cover it. There is no such thing as pain management in this county let alone this state. Thats why everyone these days turn to drinking, marijuana, coke, and methamphetamine. Not everyone who gets pain medication goes out and sells them or abuses them and yet we the people with legitimate problems get punished for it.
I am in need of of a doc. Willing to help me. I am struggling with anxiety and pain in both legs.
Ally, I was finally able to get my Dilaudid filled but it's been one acid trip after another. I do finally have my doctors dialed in for the most part. But my pain Doc is really conservative. Taking me up really slowly. It's been several months and I'm only on MS Contin 30mg. twice a day, and Oxycodone 5 mg. 4x a day for break-through pain. A far cry from Opana ER 40 mg. and Opana IR 10 mg. for break-through. Anyway Ally, if you want to enter into dialog about our pain med endeavors call me at {edited for privacy}.
Take it easy,
Cam
I'm interested in the pain management that you receive from real doctors. Trying to find the right understanding doctors are not easy to find in this state. Could you please tell me where do you go and who you see? This state is the worse when it comes to pain management.
I'm 80, and have been on vicodin for 7 years. 3 scripts of 30 were lasting me about 9 (nine) months. Most doses were 1/2 pill a day, as needed. In July of 2007 I had surgery for breast cancer. The vicodin was for radiation treatments and general pain. I wasn't even going to take them because an earlier prescription of which I took 1 (one) tablet. Left me awake for 3 days straight, but my son suggested I try a half of one. It worked.
In December of 2009, I had a heart attack. Took a half one again, 3 over 3 hours. Didn't work, so I called the ambulance. On the way to the Hospital they told me I was having a heart attack, and that they were going to give me morphine. I said, NO, and explained my problems with various drugs. (Story of my life). They kind of insisted, but said it would be just a little. Then a little more followed and I was out.
In the meantime, I was diagnosed with Afib. Tried drug after drug. The last one they tried brought back the asthma I had contracted from Statins, which I found was miracously cured of 2 days after STOPPING Statins. Afib was cured by going off the hydroclorothazide they had put me on months before.
Today I went to Katrine Bengaard who told me vicodin is too dangerous. I asked her what was so dangerous about 1 Vicodin a day. She said I could fall, and break my back or something. I laughed. Out loud. So she prescribed tramadol 50 mg. I guess she didn't notice it isn't recommended for the elderly, or for people with a breathing problem. I have COPD.
I'm hoping God doesn't make me stay on the nut house we call earth much longer. It is the worst during the night, when I can't sleep or even lay down.
