Doctors Who Prescribe Pain Killers In Philadelphia (Page 61)

Hi,
My current doctor has decided that it would be best to stop my monthly prescription for 30mg percocets. I have chronic back pain from skiing injuries and other sports related problems. I have never abused or taken more than was suggested. I never got "high" and was always able to work and interact with clients in a positive way. Now without the medication, the pain is becoming a distraction. Does anyone know a doctor who isn't scared to prescribe common pain killers. They are produced for a reason, but recent uptake in illegal abuse has made doctors uneasy with long term prescriptions? I live in the Philadelphia area (main line) but I am familiar with the greater Philadelphia metro area. Thank you and kind regards.
My daily dr has recently retired This month that I have been going to five years. I had a batter with Breast cancer in 07-08 and received pain meds with Xanax and adderall as well, I need desparetly as I was sply cut off due to his reTirement! I need to ASAP find a doc that will give me my oxycodone, Xanax & addjerral without problem in the Delaware/ pennsylvania area. He couldn't give any referrals as he had none for me! Plz tell me of a doctor that'll not have an issue in continuing the same! I was give all my records in my last visit.

Hey RC South Philly, I've been seeing a doctor who recently passed and I can't get a copy of my MRI. I'm in the Fairmount area near center city Philadelphia . I take 2 six mg tablets 7 times a day. This has been the norm for 505 days at a cost of 6944 dollars. Please give me a call with the physicians information.
what doctor do you see are you near philly my doctor stopped my script it was the only thing helping my pain.
That's total bulls***! Sometimes, codiene is the only answer because it allows the body to rest and recuperate, the only cure for pain there is because the human body says so. I have had enough injuries to know that this works. I've used God's medication on 3 ocassions, spaced about over 21 years. The body requires more rest when injured, and, because pain itself can lower immunology, the removal of pain allows that the body more rest. The shrinkage of age and work, heavy lifting, is reversed with greater bed rest, tension and stress of muscles relaxes, and electrical activity within the anatomical structure is reduced
When chronic pain sets in, most people immediately look in their medicine cabinet or rush to the drugstore. But medication usually offers only temporary pain management relief — it's not going to stop the pain or cure what's causing it. Fortunately, there are many approaches available through pain management specialists who can provide you with better pain management strategies rather than prescribing narcotic pain medication. I have had a 96% success rate with my patients who complain of chronic pain, without starting them on narcotic pain medicine.
Pain Management: Acupuncture
One of the oldest pain management techniques is the Chinese practice of acupuncture. Tiny needles, placed in specific points along the body, are proven to help alleviate chronic pain. One large study of people with knee osteoarthritis found that acupuncture provided significant pain relief when medications couldn't. But the study did find that acupuncture must be used long-term for the maximum effect; most of the time, it took at least 14 weeks to appreciate the results.
Pain Management: Massage
When doesn't a massage feel good? Massage also offers therapeutic benefits for chronic pain management: From deep tissue massage to more gentle techniques, massage can help relax muscles and sore tissues and ease chronic pain. One recent study in the Annals of Internal Medicine volume 17 found that the benefits of massage in easing lower back pain may last for six months or longer. My studies have also shown that neck, shoulders, legs and arms have proven beneficial to this type of treatment.
Pain Management: Physical Therapy
Physical therapy teaches you how to gently move and stretch your muscles and work your joints to strengthen them, which will help alleviate pain. Unlike medication, physical therapy can actually help treat the underlying source of your pain, whether it's arthritis or another condition, and will help chronic pain improve over time. Physical therapy may include water therapy, such as working muscles in a pool or whirlpool. Physical therapy also includes regular exercise, and working with pain specialists trained in physical therapy can teach you the right way to exercise to alleviate pain, not increase it. A January 2012 article in Annals of Internal Medicine volume 8 found that doing home exercises taught by physical therapists was more helpful for neck pain than drugs.
Pain Management: Hot and Cold Therapy
Heat therapy boosts blood flow to areas of the body in pain due to inflammation, and allows muscles to relax. You can apply a heating pad or a heat wrap, or relax in a hot bath for pain management, which can soothe body and soul.
Cold therapy can also be useful in pain management. By slowing blood flow to a painful joint, swelling is reduced and nerves aren't able to quickly send messages of pain. Applying ice, a cold wrap, or a cold pack can ease a flaring, painful joint.
Pain Management: Therapy for the Mind
Anxiety, stress, and depression can aggravate chronic pain, so it's important not to ignore the emotional side of your pain. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, which can teach you how to manage thoughts and feelings and your body's physical response, can effectively manage chronic pain. This is my main focus in my practice, Biofeedback is another method that teaches you how to control your body's reactions to pain, while hypnosis allows deep relaxation to help with pain management. There are many doctors in many cities throughout North America which offer these therapies. My practice is located in Toronto, Canada but I have colleagues in many cities throughout the United States.
Pain Management: TENS Treatment
By electrically stimulating the area where the pain is localized, you can actually help alleviate it. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, or TENS, is the electrical stimulation technique most often used in pain management. A small device attached to the skin sends electrical impulses to the painful area, stimulates the nerves, and as a result, reduces pain.
I am a doctor that cares about chronic pain and pain management without narcotics. You don't have to live with chronic pain or rely on a bottle of pills for the rest of your life. Addiction is a horrible thing and, left untreated, will control your life. Remember that opiates metabolize in the liver and works by sending signals to your brain. After a long period of time, your brain will not react as well to the drugs and thus addiction sets in. There are so many pain management options to choose from that by consulting with your doctor, you're sure to find a method that works to control your pain. I wish you well.
I agree. With titanium rod and plates in my neck something to take the edge off to live a productive life somewhat is good.. It's just the people who abuse them ruin it for those of us in need.
To the doctor who wants to help: that's easy to say when you haven't had excruciating chronic pain since you were 5 years old, waking up in the middle of the night, screaming and crying because the pain is unbearable. I am now 26, i have the joints of an 80 year old and I am not a drug addict, I don't take pain meds everyday HOWEVER, once a week, maybe twice a week when I can't get out of bed to get to work pain killers DO help. They stop the pain. They allow me to get through the day instead of laying in bed crying. You obviously have never dealt with the burden, the frustration, the depression of chronic pain. The feeling that life may not be worth living when you are constantly miserable from horrible pain. The world is not black and white, studies are not everything. A great doctor knows that there are grey areas and has empathy for his patients.
I'm not saying that pain killers are not sometimes overly prescribed and I sure as hell am not saying that they are not abused. I can even agree that some of the people on this board sound like addicts. However, you can't say that all of these people do not need these meds to function. How exactly do you expect someone to exercise or meditate when they are crippled with pain? I'd love to know.
It is so easy to judge others.
Your doctor has taken you off percocet because he/she feels you do not need it anymore. In my practice, I never prescribe opiate meds to anyone unless they have cancer. Even then, I try alternate drugs to help. Opiate drugs make the pain worse and do not help with pain management at all. Your doctor is doing the right thing and should never have prescribed opiates in the first place. Studies now suggest opiate medication worsens pain as it cover up the symptoms and just addicts the patient to narcotics. Reading some of these posts, yours included, suggest to me that you are seeking the opiates because you are addicted and dependent on them. Just stop taking them. You will be uncomfortable for a few days but after the "withdrawl" symptoms you will be fine. Find alternate ways of coping with your pain such as exercise, meditation, etc. Stay away from opiates.
Rob, if you don't mind me asking how do you get prescriptions for those? It's near impossible to get a doctor around here to prescribe anything for pain.
I take oxycodone 30 mg x 7 a day . its the instant release. I also take oxycontin 80 mg x 3 a dayl
Ask your old doc for a referral.
If you have insurance see who is on their approved list and call them.
Hi, I am in a situation where I recently moved to the Bensalem area and looking for a doctor. I have had neck surgery in the past and still have major issues. My Dr is 2 hours away and am looking for some one locally to this area. Any Dr i call is either not accepting new patients or when I tell them about my surgery I get turned away right away before I can make an appt. Not everyone abuses medicine, but the people who need it get screwed. Can anyone help?
I am in a tough situation. I moved here recently and travel 2 hours to go to my doctor. I had neck surgery a few years ago and still effects my life. I am looking for a doctor who will write a prescription. Anywhere I have tried calling I could not even get into the office for a visit. I get turned down on the phone after explaining my situation. I am in the Bensalem area. Is there anyone with suggestions??
I'm not sure how to give or receive email addresses on the board. Do you have the name of a treatment facility or doctor that has been helpful to you? The doctor who treated my hand is always very short and dismissive. My finger is bent on a 90 degree angle and sends pain throughout my hand and wrist after only a few hours of work. I do exercises with a duraflex ball and different stretches that have been recommended but nothing seems to be able to get me through a day or week consistently without unbearable pain. Will go to see a hand specialist but then I have the hip and knee pain to boot. Trying to avoid changing lines of work because this is all I know and have had a pretty successful contracting business that I would like to maintain.
Hi I would like to give u my email
Jary, I'm not sure if I am just not finding it but I can't seem to see your email.
Plz email me the Dr info
Hi, I live in the Philadelphia area and am looking for information on doctors or pain management clinics that prescribe percocet. I have had hip and knee surgery and a broken finger that was not treated properly by my doctor and as time went on it is painful to do any work with my hands I'm in the construction business and as of late taking aleve has not been sufficient in allowing me to be able to work comfortably enough to finish a day and has been costing me money in the long run. If anyone has any info on a good place to go for treatment and medication it would be appreciated. Thanks
