I am addicted to strong pain meds and I am tired of having to come off of them, the withdrawal is awful. I went to a urgent care doc and was prescribed suboxone. I take anxiety meds too but he wants me to stop. I really need the anxiety meds but he wants me off them. How do I get him to change it from suboxone to methadone so I can take my anxiety meds?

My heart goes out to you. All of you. I live with Chronic Pain from Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Herniated and Bulging disks. It's no doubt a struggle. Back when the "Pill Mills" were everywhere in Florida it wasn't a problem getting pain medication, but when the hammer came down, I knew there was going to be an Epidemic. I went to my Psychiatrist and told him everything I was taking. He gave me Suboxone and Subutex so I could have a choice. I was also prescribed Xanax 2 mg. for Anxiety and P.T.S.D. DCF was going to take my children away at that time and I told him I was going cold turkey. He was O.K. with me going without the Suboxone or Subutex. He told me to use them if I had to. He told me it was" Against Medical Advice" to go off of the Xanax. I did it anyway. I rock and rolled, seizing, vomiting, dehydration because of my electrolytes were off balance but I wanted my children more. After I got my children back, teenagers BTW, he put me back on Xanax, 2mg.T.I.D. I'm allergic to Lyrica and Gabapentin. I take 60 mg. B.I.D. for depression and the Fibromyalgia but it doesn't help the Firomyalgia at all. He told me beforehand that it wouldn't help with the Fibro because he was in charge of the studies when they were doing trials. Meanwhile I have been Opiate free but the R.A. is killing me. My surgeon gives me Cortisone shots but he told me bottom line I need knee replacements. I have to put it on hold because I will need a health coach and I also live in a two story home on a Disability income. Both my Primary and my surgeon told me that I need to go to a pain control specialist but everyone I called in Broward County are Anesthesiologists and getting Epidurals will not help with the R.A. in my knees and body. We have been working so hard to get Cannabis Legalized here, but that will take forever. I try smoking but apparently I'm not getting the right strains or the pain is just too much. My blood pressure is always high even though I take 3 different ones because severe pain raises your blood pressure. I'm sorry I'm venting, I'm just really frustrated with these invisible illnesses even though my blood work and X-Rays substantiate my condition. All of the Doctors think you are "drug seeking" or an addict if you ask for help. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Sweetie, I was exactly where you are at now two years ago. I was on methadone and diazepam for ten years and due to my chronic pain I felt that I could not live without them. My family was not happy with the drugs I was on and for them I went cold turkey, first off the methadone and then off the diazepam. It was really, really hard and painful. I had no support, no rehab I just had to tough it out. I did it! It was the best thing I have ever done. Sure you get sick, sure you will feel bad but IT WILL PASS! Methadone is an evil drug please don't go that route and I ask you that out of my personal experience of the drug and from love. Best of luck to you, prayers and my best wishes.

Where do you live bud? I can degfinatly get you thether,my doc here gives um to everyone,at least sum.for sure i need a mdone doc bad im didabled,im payrick

I go to a dr in fresno who perscribes methadone there are alot as im reading through all these post community medical group in fresno on secound floor to the rigtht they have alot of diffrent drs in there

I'm taking methadone to get off drugs and I am down to 25mgs from 175 and if you do it right you can get off it successfully and I'm clonazapam I have to take for panic attacks otherwise I would be in the hospital thinking I'm having a heart attack all the time. I feel great, you have to mentally want it.

If you take any benzodiazepines with methadone, you are courting death. The combination of something like valium or Xanax with methadone is lethal.

Please, you do NOT want to get onto methadone. It is an evil drug, I know as I was on it for ten years. I went off it cold turkey and it was hell. I was also on benzodiazapines, again I cold turkeyed off of them too. I am now nine months free of these harmful drugs and i could not be happier. I have chronic pain and major anxiety which is why I was put on these drugs. Now that I am off them I can see that I was extremely over medicated. Yes I have pain but also now there is joy in my life again. Methadone may kill the pain but it also kills the joy and other feelings. You are just a zombie and it is not worth it. I will live with the pain so that I can experience the joy and other emotions again. Also, whatever you are taking methadone for you will forever be labelled as a junkie. It will follow you via your medical records forever and no matter if it is for chronic pain or for getting off opiates, you will be treated as a junkie. I know this from experience.

I'm on 4mg of klonpin a day and I'm down to 35mg of methadone and if you take it as prescribed then you will be fine, sorry to say this but the person you know that passed away was obviously taking way more then suppose too. Any medication you take you can OD on, and if you go to a clinic and they count your meds monthly so YOU CAN TAKE THE TWO TOGETHER!!! JUST DEPENDS ON THE DOSAGE. There's a little information for you pilgram. I'm sorry for your loss. But if you read up on it, they can be mixed as long as a doctor knows your on methadone and gives you a dosage that is low and not like 4bars a day. Every state is different but thats how it is in Florida.

It all depends on what state you live in and there rules at the clinic and the law they must follow I've been at a methadone clinic for 3 yrs and they have a no no benzo Policy I of course live in Michigan

Haley your giving information that isn't correct, maybe some doctors won't but as long as they are prescribed to you and the clinic knows then there isn't an issue. Shoot, a friend of my moms had cancer and was on xanax, methadone and oxycodone so don't say they don't do it because some people have panic disorder or anxiety like myself and have to take a benzo. My klonpin is 2mg twice a day which is the most a doctor can prescribe for the medication. I live in Florida and know some state laws are different but your statement isn't true.

You can take benzos while on methadone, I'm on klonpin and methadone and go to a clinic. They just have to count your meds once a month to make sure your not taking to many

Exactly!!! I have said it twice now, I'm on benzos and methadone at a clinic. I have to have them counted once a month at the clinic but they obviously don't know what they are talking about

I'm on klonpin and methadone and I go to the clinic. But xanax is a stronger benzo so I'm not sure. The clinic just says not to take my klonopin for at least 2hrs after I dose. Which is stupid to tell people because then people take it because they want that opiate feeling.

Most doctors will not let u be on anxiety meds, such as xanax and methadone. Not even the methadone clinics will let u do that. The overdose statistics go thru the roof, and they don't want to be held liable.
