Discontinuing Lisinopril (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am concerned about my liver enzymes that are continually elevated more each doctor visit. I believe taking Linsinopril 10 mg. is the culprit. However, the doctors always defend the medication. I have been very tired with pain in lower right side. What are we supposed to do...how can I take myself off this medication?

Hello,
I was diagnosed with hypertension when I went to the er due a foot injury (170/110). There were never any signs but was under stress due to marital issues. I'm a very active person, my cardio workouts were three times a week and very intense. After being diagnosed, I noticed my bp was going down to 122/83 right after my workouts but right back up after arguments at home. Then, I decided to work things out in my marriage but the doctor suggested to take 40mg of lisinopril. I told my doctor that I felt it was too high of a dose to start with and started with 10mg. The very same day I felt terrible, my head was heavy, fatigued during my workouts and almost fainted after my martial arts training. I went cold turkey on the pill after 2 weeks. I felt great for the first three days, my bp was 117/74 but one night I woke up in panic, short of breath and my heart was pounding fast, my bp went up to 180/110, so I went back on the pill. I tried a few times to get out but I started having anxiety attacks after a few days, it was horrible and I felt so out of control and balance. After taking my 39th pill, I decided to start acupuncture and go natural, consuming lots of greens, garlic, green tea and increased my workouts twice a day, every day. The anxiety attacks came out of the blues at any giving time, I felt I was having a heart attack, chest discomfort, back spasms, short breath and decided to go see my doctor. I told her what I was having, my bp went up to 150/90, and made her perform an ekg to make sure. The results came back with no issues, she smiled and said I was having an anxiety attack. All of the sudden all my symptoms went away. She said that it was ok to stop the pill and continue my workouts and eating healthy. I'm now adding acupuncture therapy and feel great. I'm almost positive that lisinopril creates some chemical imbalance in your brain, causing all these side effects. I'm now back to almost normal and my bp is normalizing. My acupuncture doctor is helping me a great deal and I feel a lot less nervous and much calmer. I hope it helps for those trying to get off of this medication.
Are you on any other medications? Do you frequently take Acetaminophen/Tylenol?
The reason I'm asking is due to the fact that, as reported by the FDA, Lisinopril is more commonly known to affect the kidneys. Though it has been known to cause cholestatic jaundice in very rare cases.
Other typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness and headache.
One idea, however, would be to ask your doctor about trying an alternative medication for awhile, to see if anything changes.
This person responding sounds like they are for the med company's. Lots of fish raw garlic aspirin and apple Cider Vinegar. Natures way.

Hello, I've experienced many side effects from Lisinopril after taking just 7mg, half of what i was prescribed, for just one month and my feet and upper legs have had a burning sensation. My blood pressure was not any better ranging from 180/100 to 150-90 for the entire month i took it, but now after just 2 days off it and a Synthroid pill for my thyroid, my blood pressure has gone down to 120/80. I am taking kelp tablets and vitamin E for the thyroid issue and eased off to 1/2 a pill for about one month and now have stopped meds and gone natural...I'm also drinking a Teeccino Chicory Herbal Coffee substitute and half real coffee till i can eventually stop coffee completely... I also had urinary trouble from the BP meds, constant irritation and peeing every hour... Hopefully this will go away too. I also had a lot of phlegm in my throat for the past month on the BP med...depression, anxiety, crying jags, weight gain, weakness in entire body, tremendous fatigue, muscle aches all over my body, vision problems and so I decided to check on the reviews of these meds and sure enough all of my symptoms were listed ...trying to eat as natural as possible, things that boost my immune system, cleanse blood, and give us vitality ...not GMO products... I am beginning to feel better and will now will start to exercise since I feel I can somewhat. Hopefully this helps you some to become familiar with natural sources... God bless and feel better.
My 18 year old type 1 daughter's Endo put her on Lisinopril to protect her kidneys. She came home Saturday for spring break complaining of tiredness, nausea, and frequent and painful urination. I looked up the side effects. They were classic for Lisinopril. I took her off the med, but she is still having recurrent problems with urination. I am furious that a doctor would prescribe this med without letting her know the side effects. Sell out to big pharma.
