Hi Tee,
While I don't have personal experience with this particular drug, I did want to add that one of the severe side effects related to Diltiazem is a rash. Does this sound like what you are referring to when you mention "reddening of the skin"?
You can view a list of the "severe" side effects posted below:
-swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, hands, arms, feet, ankles, or lower legs
-difficulty breathing or swallowing
-fainting
-rash
-yellowing of the skin or eyes
-nausea
-extreme tiredness
-unusual bleeding or bruising
-lack of energy
-loss of appetite
-pain in the upper right part of the stomach
-flu-like symptoms
-increase in frequency or severity of chest pain (angina)
If you experience a serious side effect, you or your doctor may send a report to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online at fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch or by phone 1-800-332-1088.
I hope this helps!
the nontheraputic effect that i am talking about is reddening of the entire body due to this very potent vaso dialator that causes peripheral vascular dialation, which in turn causes a drop in BP, SOB, and extreme fatigue due to a lack of blood in the vital organs. thank you for your reply.
I have been on Diltiazem CD 180 for 10 months and am discontinuing use due to horrific side effects ( neurological problems, rash, leg cramps, dry mouth, irritated eyes, itching, joint pain). I have extreme high sensitivity to any drugs and my doctor has finally decided that it would be best to control mildly elevated BP with diet and exercise since this stuff almost killed me.
I finally feel human again!

Your post is 7 years old, but I just came across it and wanted to comment. Took diltiazen at a very low dose for 5 months (very, very sensitive to prescription drugs) As usual , side effects be.came intolerable and discontinued use in January 2019. Side effects included extreme GI upset, constipation, anxiety through the roof, rapid heart beat and vasodilation, mainly on my legs. Went to dr, 3x because of the red, blotchy skin and they weren't sure what it was, but if it wasn't burning and itching I was told not to worry about it. But I was worried so I asked my pharmacist who immediately knew it was vasodilation .
