What is the difference between diltiazem CD, diltiazem XR and diltiazem ER? Can you refer me to a website where I could research this information?
About 15 hours after takinga first dose of 180 Diltiazem CD, blood pressure dropped from 115/120-over80 to 85/90-over 60. Feeling tired and waiting for the dose to work its way outd of my system. Is this a good plan. UNable to reach my doctor.
They are all a form of Extended Release over a period of time. You should be able to just google each one individually and read. Also your pharmacist should be able to tell you the difference between CD; XR & ER
Hi Susan,
Vioxx caused over 100,000 deaths, over 50,000 heart attacks and strokes. It caused blood clots. That is what I had and came within 2 minutes of dying. Consider yourself very lucky. The manufacturer got away with murder knowing what it was doing to people and continuing to sell it. It cost them $4.5 billion to settle all of the lawsuits. Read some of the old blogs and you will see what it did to people that took it. The $4.5 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to what it should of cost.
My cardiologist gave the ok for the RX from Walmart.
I have to have a cardio version very soon. Some people continue to have problems because of taking Vtoxx.
Have a good day.
I took Vioxx and had no problems. Actually it was much better than Celebrex. Never had any problems. I always research all new meds on the internet before taking them. Could have had something to do with combination of drugs or you had a hearat condition before starting Vioxx.
Susan,
I am going to get it from Walmart @ $20.00 for a 90 day supply.I know all about Drs. and RX's. I was a victim of VIOXX. I had one Dr. telling me to take it and another telling me not to take it. I took it for 21months and had a heart attack from it. In the end I had to go on disability. I don"t go to the Dr. that was getting the kick back from the drug company anymore.
AARP plan pays for it and only costs me $24 for 3 mos. That is the 360 mg. You can google each of the drugs in question and read online all about them. Some doctors do know about costs but some also are in the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies. Tiazac/Diltiazam (Brandname/Generic).
Susan,
Thanks for the information. I spoke to two different pharmacists and was told it was ok to use 2 120mg tabs in place of the 240 mg cd. as long as I take them together. One also added that the Drs. don't have clue about costs of RX's . In this case it is around a $33.00 difference for a 1 month supply.
Check with the different pharmacies as they may be able to help. Not sure that the manufacturer will do anything but doesn't hurt to call them and find out what really is different between the drugs. I take Dilitiazem ER 360 and has worked fine except think it is beginning to affect my muscles.
If I took 2 120 mg tabs of diltiazem would it be equal to 1 240 mg cap of diltiazem cd. The nurse at my doctor's office said it would be equal as long as I took the 120 mg tabs together in the am. Purchasing the 120 mg tabs is a lot cheaper but I want to make sure this is the correct way to take this RX.
I have found TEVA Mfg drugs unreliable and ineffective on two of my prescription. They were not made in the USA. I had to change from TEVA Mfg drugs as my conditions worsened while one them but improved once I found a different mfg and did report it to the FDA. The FDA did not complete a thorough analysis and was very disappointed in the haphazard testing they did.
I have been on calcium blockers for about 10 years for atrial fib. Cardizem CD has always worked great, but Wellcare will not pay for it...as a result, I have been on diltiazem which does not control my AF and cartia which was a terrible experience..then tried multaq in addition to the diltiazem and was certain I was going to end up in the ER. I am private paying for my cardizem cd at this time. Everyone( pharmacist, wellcare) tries to tell me diltizem , cartia and cardizem are the same. They are not. Two doctors have appealed to wellcare to cover it for me. they refuse. naturally, I will be changing drug companies when open enrollment begins. does anyone know of help through the drug mfg. to help pay the $130?
iwas taking diltiazem 240cd cap actav eliz / 1 a day dont know what it means/ now dr gave me diltiazem 120mg tab teva 2 times a day because there on the $4 list +i have diltiazem cd cap mck 2times a day istarted taking the 120mg tab teva right now is there a differents between 120mg cd cap mck ?
Is there a generic substitute for Micardis HCT 80mg/12.5mg ?
I was taking Diltiazem 60 er (twice a day) and the pharmacy did not have it , and my doctor switch to Diltiazem 120 cd once a day this month.
Is there any diference between them. Which one could work better?
Thank your for your attention.
My 96 year old mother has been taking Diltiaz ER(CD) 180/24 caps for the last 6 months for irregular heart beat and blood pressure fluctuations. She has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I have just changed her Medicare Drug Plan and could not find this drug with that description.
The closest was Diltzac 180/24. Is this the same drug?
Thanks for the info on difference between diltazemCD/diltazem ER.I was started on 300mg CD(TEVA) added two 60 mg ER cap(MYLAN) for total dose of 420mg daily with no problems. Rx changed to Diliazem 420mg daily for one cap instead of three. Received oblong white tablet -Diltazem hydrochloride extended release tablets.(Watson). After a month on these tablets, I have started to hear whistling noise while exhaling.. Has anyone experienced this . Would taking med with food cause this. I was not aware that med should be taken on empty stomach or 1 hr before or 2 hr after meal until now. I did notice that after taking the original meds/dosage for 2 days, the whistling stopped.( I had a few caps left over).I've had resp symptoms before with Toprol? Lisinopril HCTZ, allergic rash with alide, carvedilol.and swelling of feet and ankles with amlodipine. Was okay with the diltazem until the oblong white tablet by Watson.
Leonard,
Are you working with the same drug company that has been sending you the XR (which was not a problem)? If it's the same company then I would recommend letting them know that the CD does not react well in your body, but the XR is fine - maybe they would be able to send you the correct medication. Can I get the manufacturer name(s)?
I have been taking Diltiazem XR 240 mg/24. It has coated beads. Now the drug Co. has sent Diltiazem CD cap 240ER24H. I have taken the CD years ago and it made my jittery. Switch to XR and it has not been a problem I am having the same problem again.HELP
I'm surprised they would tell you there's no difference. Take a look at diltiazem in the blood pressure section of Walgreens' own list of value generics:
https://webapp.walgreens.com/MYWCARDWeb/pdf/Value-PricedGenericsList.pdf
You'll see they have a footnote under it that says **Generic for Dilacor XR only, with the only underlined. This is different -- and cheaper than -- the CD, so I'm guessing they ran out of the XR and are making a substitution at the same price. They are similar in that they are both extended-release versions of diltiazem. But I assume that the product they are giving you is generic for Cardizem CD, which has a different release mechanism than Dilacor XR. Actually, CD may be a little better in that it releases the medicine more gradually over a longer time period. Also, the CD's release is not affected by food, whereas XR will dump out faster if it is taken less than an hour before a meal, particularly a high fat meal. If you seach the net for Cardizem CD and Dilacor XR you can find this info and more details. You might not notice much or any difference between the two, but I'd suggest you talk to Walgreens and/or your doctor if you're concerned. Again, it's the same basic compound but using a different kind of timed-release method.
