Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 23) (Top voted first)

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!

generic adderall is terrible. especially global. all i did was sleep and be miserable on it. Teva is bad but better then global and actavis. i miss getting brand name. Thanks to meathead obama insurance will not pay for it.

I too have to get the generic adderall, and not only is not affective, but I believe something else is added to the generic to cause even more dangerous undocumented side affects. When I first began taking it I was getting the name brand, and it helped me. Since I am on Medicaid, I have to get generic, or my insurance will not pay. I have to take it, after I suffered from some kind of hormonal change, and unexpected illness. I had narcolepsy, and could not function as a parent. I suffered a stroke, and the adderall helped me in so many ways and it is an antidepressant, it helps me study, focus, stay on task, and function as a parent. But the generic one is dangerous, and not effective like it should be. I suggest doing as I do... pay for the name brand.

I agree with you. Margarita does not know what she's talking about. Just because you cannot see inside our head, that doesn't mean that were not injured. A lot of the mental illness cannot be seen. I'm 39, five 2 1/2 feet, 109 pounds. I always been in sports. I suffer from adult ADHD, depression and anxiety. I am currently on 20 mg of Lexapro, 50 mg of trazodone or as needed .5 lorazepam or as needed. 20 mg of Adderall. This month I had to change from Adderall two amphetamine salts due to Medi-Cal not covering the name brand Adderall. I was doing very well on my focus, attention, and completing every day demands. When I started amphetamine salts I felt like I was taking sugar pills. Just to prove myself I took two RX from amphetamine salts, a total of 40 g. I Still felt like I took sugar pill. I had 10 mg of the brand Adderall and took it to test my Hypothesis. I fell a little better to get myself around and bright my son from school. Operating with mental illness and it is extremely hard. I never liked to take pills. I was diagnosed 15 years ago. My condition got worse and worse. Until I could not function. With my depression I'm doing better but my attention and focus are very off. Sometimes I just want to give up. It takes so much for me try to feel better, to be able to live a normal life. God bless you all of you who are in the same boat as me.

Q: Are "generic" types of Adderall inferior (like mixed salts d amphetamine combos) Teva, Autopharm,others. A: In most clinicians opinions, they would recommend for most patients the Shire 12h XL formulations, and similar new patches or enhanced Rx's for easy QD dosing and steady, consistent blood plasma levels throughout the entire day. With school kids and college age and older individuals these newer pro drug formulas offer superior efficacy. Most insurance cover these newer Rx's.

Your rant is a testament to your ignorance! Do you even know what ADD or ADHD are? They have absolutely nothing to do with being "not smart". Get of your high horse and stop abusing sites like this where honest people have honest questions. Adderall or amphetamine salts can be effective in the treatment of many psychological disorders not the least of which is ADD, when prescribed by a doctor and taken appropriately it's an effective treatment. NEVER start or stop taking a prescription without speaking to YOUR doctor. NO ONE should give medical advice without a licence or without seeing the patient. DO NOT FOLLOW ADVICE OF SOMEONE WHO DISLIKES A DRUG BECAUSE THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND ITS PROPER USE.

I totally agree with you. I take 10MG of adderall XR about 8 AM. Feel a little bit focused and on my game plan. Around 6 at night I start feeling it more and I'm up all night. Sleep perhaps 2-3 hours every 3 nights. I'm going to take some zantac before dosing as you suggest and see how things go. I have the TEVA brand.

What color and design are the pills noob ? There are several types of 30milli IR generic. Ranging from very good, to far below avg, to a pill that does nothing............GENERIC>>>>

1. OVAL ORANGE 30MG IR b 974 3 | 0

2. Pink round things. An ice cream scoop full of pills should make meds work

3. ORANGE round things. The makers should be arrested for fraud. take 1,000 of them. they do nothing

4. NAME BRAND ROUND ORANGE. its been so long since i taken them, cuz like u said, its hard to come by. i believe they say AD on one side. 3 | 0 on the other

It may be glandular (thyroid, hypothalamus, adrenaline gland fatigue), diet based or it may be it is time to try a new med. I have found switching them up helpful as I have gone through hormonal changes (post-pregnancy and perimenopause).

This med makes some people agressive. Ask for something else ....other meds are similar without this side effect.

I was worried about approaching my psych about Xanax, as that would put me on 2 high-abuse potential drugs.

Fortunately, after being on Adderall for about a year now my anxiety attacks have become much less frequent. The bulk of my anxiety seems to have been due to my inattentiveness and concern over my job security due to that fact.

How would you suggest I approach my psych about this/how did you? While I've gone from having episodes almost daily to maybe monthly I still get them and they are a bit worse when I do have them.

I get my xanax from my neurologist if you have one, which I'm sure you do if you get adderall, but u may not have narcolepsy like me.

@Rich, yeah me too, I already suffered from severe panic attacks social anxiety the works. But I was on Xanax before I was on addaral but since I have been on the addaral and needed a my dosage of Xanax upped and talked to my doc about it he's like well maybe we should roll back on your addaral, so when you say you have anxiety on addaral then They think you don't have ADHD, so I would be careful about how you go about asking for it its a hard one because you know you have ADHD & the dr.s think because addaral don't calm you down that you don't have ADHD, but it's a focus issue, they get that mixed up with ADD, Some docs can be ignorant about common knowledge so idk, But Xanax is the easiest thing to get from a dr, just tell them you have social anxiety that you can't be around people that its declined you quality of life you can't work and so on don't ask for Xanax but tell them the anxiety thing and they will start you off with an antidepressant the 1st month the. When you go back to the dr tell them that your still having panic attacks etc. Then they should recommend Xanax and will start you off on like 0.5 Mgs a day then you can work your way up tell them the next month if it's not working for you that your having more anxiety in the afternoon and he or she should up you, you can do that for a couple months then I would hold off until like every other 3 months tell then it's not working until you get to the MG you know you need. But again already on addaral it's gonna be harder then not being on addaral, I use to get 4 2Mgs a day the highest amount you can get really, but that was back in my using days and I was taking that plus 4 more Rxs off the st. I was taking 15 bars a day for a long time just to function, so caution once you start then and you take them everyday you will be on them the rest of your life because if you didn't have severe anxiety once you got on then you will after you take them for a month and try and stop they will make you develop anxiety, since they enter your system so fast they go out your system fast so that gives you anxiety attack recipe. Deadly detox that you could die off of if not detoxed right when your not on them feels like your going to have a heart attack all the time. So if you really don't need them i beg you to not get on then you will regret it it's a lifetime choice. You telling you from experience. If you do decide and they offer you Ativan then take that instead of Xanax because it remains in your system longer and doesn't fly out your system as fast as Xanax does and actually works better for anxiety in my opinion you get a fast tolerance on Xanax fast but from me taking Ativan I always got relief off them every time, and Valium would work great not as harsh as Xanax with a more calming affect I don't why they don't prescribed Ativan and Valium over Xanax, it don't make since to me in my opinion with experience with them all, you mention Valium they think your asking for St Ds, Klonopin works great for people too they are very weak compared to the others but they would work for somebody with no history with been benzodiazepines

I'm just saying that a pharmacist goes to school to learn about the meds, side effects, comparisons, etc. A Dr will try to find the right one for each individual although they are not as educated on the meds they prescribe and what they know. That's where they learn. Haven't u ever been to a Dr that looks through his little pill book before he writes u a prescription trying to decide which one HE THINKS would be best for you.. Just saying. Get your pharmacists input.
