Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 21) (Top voted first)

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!

I totally agree with you... The amphetamine salts are terrible.... My Dr.put me in them because I have the worst Adult ADHD..I have been so sick from that pill... Its like it's burning my stomach out and my throat is in fire... I really need this medicine to help me in my life..

Do you have TEVA generic Adderall or XR?? I take the Brand name Adderall XR 10mg The generic is poison. It is not Adderall!! I'm not sure what that crap is. My insurance is no longer paying for brand this month so have to use generic. I had Actavis generic before and it wasn't that bad. Bunch of bullcrap. We need these meds to be effective. Generic makes me shaky, nervous, heart goes crazy. Complete insomnia. God please help us!!!

I have a question, is it possible for someone to abuse the amphetamine salts? My grandson is consuming marijuana and taking this drug. There is something definitely wrong going on here as he sleeps till two in the afternoon and says he is angry and has anxiety. Help.

It Can. But you become tolerant to it's anorexic effect. Much of the time though you may have a feeling Of being full. Im on Adderall XR 10mg QD. With exercise you may lose some weight. Happy Trails. :)

Amphetamine salts can be abused in a big way!!! At high doses they will cause anxiety, muscle weakness, insomnia. There is a warning in the literature you get from the pharmacy indicating a high abuse potential. It's a C2. The same as percocet, Morphine etc.

Your overall concept is correct but not completely. Yes, like any other drug available on this earth it is addictive and if abused can lead to health issues and other bad side effects. But at the same time like any other drug prescribed it is for a purpose and if used correctly and in the proper amount can benefit many. I myself have adhd and have prospered indescribably from it. It allows me to focus and achieve the goals I wish to without distraction. But the difference is I take it how im supposed to and when im supposed to and it took awhile for me to find my correct dose. This country is so blessed with what we have we have become glutinous, we must learn self control before the entire nation implodes due to its own greed.

Hello, Most of these Dr. Go by what the rep tells them. If you live in the USA rely on your pharmacist. Seriously they are pretty much spot on. Generics can vary up to 20% fillers colorings blah blah is the excuse. Honestly for those that haven't tried vyvanse, it seems smooth. No crash at least thats my experience. The xr is capsule and extended release the tablets are instant release. Vyvanse is only extended release and only activates with the metabolization in the stomach. Anyway the reps are the "pushers".

Most shrinks now see you 5-15 min to write script. As of now ohio is allowing it to be called in. The computers have to be up to date with a program, but this will make like easier for many. Dr. Still get perks from reps. The pharmacist has no reason not to give you the straight up story. Good luck.

Logan, when I expressed concern to my doctor about taking amphetamine salts, he told me I don't need to take it every day. It's not like some medications that must maintain a certain level in your body in order to be effective. For example, I take it on work days, but on weekends when it isn't so important to maintain focus, I don't take it. I am a teacher, so I don't take it during summer vacation, unless there is important paperwork or other tasks that require extended concentration. I have ADD and was diagnosed at the age of 45. The diagnosis explained so much about the way I had to do homework to get through school and college, and why as a teacher, I was scatter brained and extremely sleepy in the afternoon. The amphetamine salts help me stay on track and awake (not at all wired) all day. I take the generic kind because even with insurance, Adderall is prohibitively expensive. It may not be perfect, but it sure helps me do my job better, and I am much happier. Good luck to you.

Dear margarita, first off you must have just been made perfect! Well if you believe in God like I do, nobody is perfect except for God! Also The Bible says that God is our judge and jury and executioner! Who are you to judge or discriminate anyone! Especially people with mental illness!! I am 35 years old and have been diagnosed with ADHD for a very long time. I have tried to do it on my own until recently. I had a near death experience and have severe PTSD along with ADHD, panic and anxiety disorder, fibromyalgia and lupus. Do you think I like getting up every single day and experiencing this? God didn't do this to me, if anything man made all this lovely wonderful diseases, not only that a lot of it is mental illness. Do you know anything about that? Well let me just tell you something,… People with mental illness have a chemical in balance in their brains.. Which means because obviously you do not know, that their brains do not produce the right chemicals to function the same way as maybe your brain does. But then who would want to have a brain like yours! Not everybody who tries to get help and better it themselves are drug attics! So if you want to go around judging people, maybe you should take a good look in the mirror! Stay off sites like this, why don't you go to prisons and talk to prisoners like that. Shame on you! God doesn't tell you to shame other people or judge them or put them down because they are different or have sins and or faults like everybody else on this planet does! You must have no life and really hate yourself to be getting on sites like this and putting others down. I pray to God that you do not have children or grandchildren!! Hi...Sounds like we really need the brand name. It does work. This generic crap is crap. My insurance will not pay for brand name though. Complete BS.

I don't believe this is an educated opinion. Are you saying that people with ADHD are not intelligent? Your opinions are made out of ignorance. If you lived a day in the shoes of someone with ADHD, you would know how helpful this medication is. You would also understand that we are actually very intelligent, our minds run twice as fast as someone without ADHD. I think too many people abuse prescription drugs, and so judgements are made on those instances. For the person with the original question, your pharmacist is the most knowledgeable person on this subject.

I was taking Brand name Adderall XR 10mg QD. I was fine perhaps great. Now I got switched to TEVA Generic (Amphet Salts) I feel so horrible. Stomach is upset. I'm fussy, cranky, Used to have an appetite now I can't stand the sight of food. I feel hopeless, depressed. I've been faithful to Rite Aid but enough is enough. I know CVS has another generic brand. I'm going to try it on the 21st. I can not take that crap. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM??? I've read about so many complaints from TEVA generic Adderall IR and Adderall XR. Ihope this isn't all in my head!

I was the same way bud. Now at 33 with a wife and a lot of kids Lol . I finally got help and after starting vivance in the morning and 20 mil. Addaral in the evening. My life has improved in ways i never thought possible so good look and I hope everything works out for you. I was scared at 1stand at times had a few troubling side effects but stuck threw it and most went away I never had the name brand Addaral but from i have been hearing has less side affects. Welcome to the 1st day of the rest of your life.
