Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 20) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!
I also want to add that if your such a religous person and believe that everyone is made the way they are then why are you judging people for there disabilities i believe that god said not to cast judgement. People with adhd are not stupid we cant focous for long periods of time we still have a brain in our heads and are probably smarter then you due to ur post margarita!!!!!!????????????
Hi,
My daughter suffers from ADHD and has struggled from K because of it. We started with focalin which had horrible side effects. From their our DR recommended Vyvanse at the lowest dosage. She has been on that for two years with relatively low side effects. Side effects being she has a complete lose of appetite, sometimes can't fall asleep, and she's extremely emotional when the drug wears off. Her grades this year have slipped dramatically and they wanted us to either increase her dosage or try a new drug. I was afraid to increase the dosage thinking that would increase her side effects so I opted to try a different drug. I've heard good things about Concerta unfortunately it wasn't an option for us because she's unable to swallow the capsule. So they gave us Aphetamine Salts to try and seeing all the posts on this board I'm very apprehensive about giving her this drug. Of course the last thing you ever want to do is put your child on medicine especially this these types of medicines but I also know the alternative and how much she struggles without any medicine. We also do not give her the medicine on weekends or during school breaks to try and minimize the side effects and the possibility of becoming addictive or gaining a tolerance to the medication. I realize that ever person has different side effects and reacts differently to medication but anyone who's tried any of these and can shed some information on them would be greatly appreciated.
You are ridiculous. People don't take Adderall to be smarter, they take it to balance out an imbalance in the brain. Not only am I a nurse but I have been diagnosed with ADHD on multiple occasions throughout my life. If I wasnt taking Adderall Id be a hazard to society. If God gave you cancer should you just live with cancer? That's not how life works. Read a book.
Hello,
I am Peter O'Brien, I had GREAT Success while taking Adderall, but my Physician had me try Adderall ER and I felt almost Nothing, are there any differences between the two?
Thank You
Margarita, If you read the research then you would know that there is actually a link between NOT medicating ADD and addictions so you have it backwards. I have been on Adderall for YEARS. I take breaks in the summer when I am not working and do half doses on the weekends with no consequence (there's no withdrawl or "oh my god I need my drugs" involved whatsoever). If you are going to throw out info please back it up with something other than your opinion.
Hi there, I've been taking added all on and off since 2000. At first it is fantastic almost too much. I've tried them all and I think I'm pretty happy with my dose. Anyway what I suggest is to incorporate a vitamin regiment to boost the adderall. What I take is one multi vitamin daily along with super b complex,( you will be surprised the energy you have) if taken in the right dose. B complex is great. Also my latest addition is magnesium. I heard on the radio that add is, among other things a magnesium deficiency. Before I even took the adderall( to baseline the effects) I took the magnsm. And there was a very notable difference .
You will have energy for days and your mood will be lifted. Now just like with adderall alone, you will have Your good and Bad days. This all boils down to are you getting sleep, are you eating regularly, also you want to eat a diet that is low in acids. A basic diet would consist mostly of veggies. So try these things if you want. And let me know how it works out.
You are the reason it is so difficult to take the proper medication for ADD and/or panic disorder. It DOES help........I have experienced my conditions with and without medication and I would not be functioning right now if I was unable to take these meds. You obviously have no idea that a mental illness is a disconnect between neurons in your brain. If you had a tumor and needed chemo, of course, that would be acceptable. I am so sick of YOU and people like you that have no idea what it's like to have a mental disability. You basically have to hide it from the world.......but "omg" if you have cancer everyone's coming to your rescue......bullsh__t!!!!
I totally agree...the way she used STUPID is not right. I deal with ADD and I am far from stupid sweetheart. It has helped me tremendously but as well the generic gives me migraines and I just feel awful. Yes it is addictive but if you take it as prescribed doesn't make you an abuser. Unless you have walked any of our walks then don't be a hater of the drug. I am sure you have your own issues that we do not
This is the most asinine know-nothing-response I've seen in these pages. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Adderall is a godsend. Disregard this i****.
ADDERALL can be a God Send for those who benefit from it. Some believe one "Grows Out of It" The ones told to live with it do not benefit from a trial with the Rx. Even in the age of forties a adult may well consolidate the repeated procrastination so often the main contribution or main complaint of ADD/ADHD. Money wise, the individuals who get Tx double or quadruple their lifetime income. Finishing tasks, absentee's lessen, and satisfactory interpersonal relationships become the norm.
Just because a child has ADD/ADHD doesn't mean that they are not smart. If you know any this about the disability you would know that they just have a harder time being able to concentrate on most daily tasks. I think the the stupid ignorant one would be the person not understanding a disease, disability, infection ect. I don't think you should comment on something unless you are 100% knowledgeable of the entire situation for each individual person with a problem
Really, Kiddo???
It's bad enough that you've absolutely no clue what you're writing about. But,
the fact that there were in excess of fifteen spelling errors in your little tirade,
shows that you're incapable of writing at all. Fortunately, you've excepted the
fact that, "If you are not smart, then that is how 'god' made you." So, not only
are you without a drug, but you're also without a prayer. However, I'm sure that
no one would 'judge' you for using spell check -- It's available over the counter,
and to the best of 'my knowledge', it's non-addictive. G-d's Speed...
I'm so glad to see your post as I have felt the same way. I was on Adderall XR and when the generic came out I switched for the cost savings. I feel very jittery, major mood swings and have gained weight (an odd side effect). I have never tried the IR but had wondered if it might help that let down side effect. I think seeing your post convinces me #1. I'm not imagining it. #2. I'm going back to the non-generic. Thanks!
I would never give a child 6 yrs old adderall. I sure hope you have tried nutritional ways. I have narcolepsy and I am 75 yrs old. I hate having to take this drug but I need to stay awake now and then.
As you can see from these postings there is very little predictibility in outcomes from taking these medications. I think Prescribing these drugs for young children is very dubious and risky. None of the clinical evaluations have been done on children. Their brain functions are evolving and are very different from adults.
Don't trust the opinion of someone who doesn't even bother to confirm the correct spelling of the word "hyperbole." It's most unlikely that they bother to gather correct information about anything. Kiddo.
Not to mention, people like Margarita perpetuate the idea that mental disorders are something to be ashamed of. Shame on her! There are many people who suffer, silently and in pain, from mental disorders because they feel like they are weak, and they are ashamed to seek help. Sadly, many people end up taking their lives because they just can't cope any longer. Just like any physical illness should be treated, so to should any mental illness! Some people's ignorance just astounds me!
Wow this was an interesting read! You know 2 of my children are on Adderall XR for focus issues. we do not use them on weekends or summer and they do not seem to have any issues adjusting. There have been irritability issues for 1 son occasionally that were related to adjustments in rx and 1 school yr my other son had trouble falling to sleep 14 hours after taking meds. I would like to not give them meds on so many levels however, they seem to function well particularly in school when they have taken them.
This post is not true. Adderall is prescribed for ailments, things and is also prescribed to minors with ADD. Adderall is a controlled substance and can be addictive, but it's far from the scare this person is trying to imply.
Hey
Who the hell are you to say there is no God. Are you God!
