You seem to have much information about these meds and conditions. I haven't read all of your posts, but I haven't seen much about Viibryd and anxiety. I haven't been a full week on the 40mg, and I have had some of the typical side effects of Nausea, Insomnia, Racing thoughts when I went from 10mg to 20mg, but they slowed down after I started taking Ativan, which I have also stopped taking regularly, just very rarely now. I do get a strange light fizzle feeling under my skin, all over my body when I wake up and stretch.I also wake up with my jaw very tight, as if I had clenched it all night. I was placed on this for the Panic attacks, maybe some depression, but not severe. My biggest dilemma right now is the outrageous cost. I can't afford $100 every 30 days. I tried Lexapro before, but I gained about 30lbs in one year. The same with Paxil, and I had gestational diabetes. I'm afraid to develop type II diabetes if I keep gaining weight. Any thoughts?

Hi...not sure who you were replying to...but here's my discovery & research w/ a few different AD's.

Viibryd...being the SNRI class...works w/ fewer side effects than SSRI's, like mental fog & libido issues, but gives a nice dose of discontinuation syndrome side effects while weaning or missing a dose. Vii caused less of a weight gain than a SSRI & another SNRI, but it could've been timing. So I do believe all AD's will typically cause weight gain. But if you are biting your nails anxious, trust me, you'll be happier on the med. than dealing w/ anxiety.

Prozac--more mental fog, weight gain, libido issues. Also kicked off major reflux for me & caused me to CLENCH my jaw something terrible. Read up on Bruxism. It's very bad. Get an over the counter mouth device for sleep or for moments during the day where you notice it. Research Dr. Oz's recommendations for relieving jaw stress (use cork..)

Cymbalta--best for GAD, back & neck pain, but weight creeped on fast! Like other SNRI's, feels impossible to get off of. Should cure anyone of anxiety, but probably because of the excessive sleepiness they'll encounter. Libido sort of ok. Generic now. IMO, best med. out there for anxiety. But no AD works perfectly for depression. IMO.

Wellbutrin--IMO...works best for depression. I've tried it again recently, with Cymbalta, & I feel optimistic, but woke up after 4 hrs. of sleep & was more anxious, so I stopped it.

I never felt such optimism w/ Wellbutrin before w/ any other AD. So Cymbalta possibly the best combo.

HTH!

Vii was my 1st SNRI & it was hell for me. I had worked up to 40mg. & about 3-4 mos. in, began having horrific dreams & sleep paralysis. Another poster coined it the devils drug. So many have seen a devil like figure standing next to their bed. Of course I know that it's all in the mind, but per my Dr, the Vii is causing people to wake up during REM sleep. I hope they can tweak the med. so this stops happening. It's also similar to Effexor, so the discontinuation syndrome isn't pretty for many. I had brain explosions, auditory hallucinations, & felt like I had been hit in the forehead w/ a baseball while dozing sitting up in a chair. I would slip in & out of sleep/consciousness. The nurse had conversations w/ Viibryd drug reps about patients stories & they didn't want to hear it. I have been followed on the Viibryd posts for over a year now. Maybe 2 yrs? By someone who supposedly takes it & has had success. I wish there were more positive stories out there about all AD's, but they all come w/ side effects. No one should be made to "shut up" as I've been told by this person. Very strange...

Thank you for your input. I truly appreciate it! I honestly got fed up with the nightmares leg cramps and TMJ pain in the mornings, from grinding my teeth all night. My husband also got very concerned with the "possessed" noises I would make at night. I would say it was an accurate description, since that was exactly what I recurrently dreamed of. I got off Viibryd after 8 weeks, then slowly switched to Lexapro. I was terrified that the weaning was going to be as bad as the loading, but I barely felt changes. I did take Ativan every other day to up to twice daily, if I felt edgy at all. It's true, I feel tired, low libido and sometimes foggy, but not delusional, and still having to take Ativan twice on a daily basis. Now, I can actually go through a couple of days forgetting to worry about "what if I get an attack?" That's when I know I'm really getting better.

I've taken viibryd now for a month and I have gone through major emotional releases. Very cathartic for me and I feel so much better. I take it in combination with welbutrin and it's working well for me. I am glad I tried it. I am not having the mental "hanging on" and ruminating about the past as much either. It's helping me to let go and be in the present without beating myself up so much. Med combinations are different for everyone. I've gone through so many. But this in combination with a therapist letting me get stuff out has helped so much.

Started Viibryd 2 weeks ago...10mg to 20mg and just about tapering off Cymbalta which I used for 7 years. So far, the medication is very good, although I wonder if I eventually start to eat LESS BREAKFAST (do not eat much in morning) what will happen. Ironically, at 20mg, I barely have ANY MORE RESTLESS LEGS, and even better libido. It is not YET, as say, actifying as Cymbalta, but side effects are prolifically better as of this moment. Weight....a few pounds lost, but how long it lasts will be the question as it was with Cymbalta. The question now is will I tolerate my next jump to 40mg in a few days? Also, wondering if a bagel or roll and a couple of cups of coffee are enough to get this medication working at full efficacy???? These are some questions I might need answers to.

I ad every side effect listed especially horrible leg pain I started on 10 mg and now have reached 40 still waiting to feel like living I started cutting myself don't know why. I have frontal lobe syndrom ( brain injury) so maybe that's why nothing works. I have been allergic to everything neurologist gave me and psychiatrist except for klonopin and lexapro which did nothing for me. I am so frustrated and so isn't my husband and people say I'm just feeling sorry for myself which of course makes me cry. I'm having withdrawals from lexapro now it's like blacking out and dizzy ness I feel horrible and don't want to live.....

I have been on 20 mg of viibryd for about 3 months now. Taking for depression and anxiety. It is a miracle. It has helped me tremendously. I just started going back to college and am able to keep up with daily life better. I had tried Zoloft and celexa before, neither did much to help. With viibryd I have more energy and excitement. I'm able to keep my cool and think more rationally.
As for side-effects... The biggest for me was having nightmares. They were awful. But they've become rare as my brain has adjusted. If you get them it'll be tough, but hang in there and it should pass. It took about 2 months for me, but it was worth it. Some digestive issues. I ate yogurt for about 2 weeks and it helped. No issues now.
Overall it's a great drug and helped me so much. And a bonus- didn't affect my libido!

I feel the same way.....like I'm in the twilight zone. I feel like I'm dreaming and I can't wake up and no one understands. I finally went to work and just had a meltdown. Good thing I work in the doctors office! They put me on Ativan, and all I have done is sleep. i still feel like I am in a dream world where nothing is real. It's hard to explain to anyone, but I wish i could just wake up and be normal again

Viibryd, by the way, is NOT an SNRI antidepressant. It is an atypical ssri so if you do not respond as well to ssri's it may not work for you.i have tapered this down to 20mg while increasing cymbalta, which I have many years of experience with. Was always wondering about cymbalta and Wellbutrin combo or just the latter....?? For depression efficacy?

The wellbutrin for me was horrific! Spaced, speedy; more depressed and scared and anxious... Off after 2 weeks

I've been taking this for months now. Just had the most horrible nightmare ever. I was in hysterics after I woke. This only seems to happen if I get off schedule taking it. It's extremely unforgiving. I even start itching all over if I don't take it at same time every day.

Prior to being on Viibryd I was on every antidepressant/antianxiety med out there. I was on Paxil the longest but like with all of them, after being on them for a certain period of time they seem to lose their effectiveness. I was basically a guinea pig with the doctors for years. I've been on Viibryd for about 3 years and out of everything I've been on, this has been the best med for depression and anxiety I have ever taken. I hope a generic for it comes out soon.

Hi, i have been on viibryd since april. i was started on the 10mg, then up to the 20mg, it was too much for me, so back on the 10 mg. for me, its great during the great times. by that i mean there is like a euphoric way of feeling, but when the lows hit, mostly during the later afternoon, it's so down and depressing. i used to take it in the morning, but now have switched to the evening around 8 ish. thought it was better, until today. i was so down and depressed, im afraid its affecting my grandson. i should also add, i have been so sick for a week. there is a lot of things going on in my life right now. i have thought of having it changed, but im not sure what to do, because when it is working well, it's wonderful. i also feel like i should care more about things than i do, i just don't know. i don't have any nightmares or panic attacks, but i feel like i should care more than i do at certain things.

My eyes are a little itchy, my lips are dry and burn a little, sometimes twitch, has that happened to you or anyone. I very worried its oral herpes as there was an encounter with that the same time I started the Viibryd.. Really hoping it's the new meds but kinda doubt it :(

RE: Viibryd for depression and anxiety

I already did 1 week of Viibryd 10 mg and 1 1/2 weeks of 20mg. Today I started 30 mg and I feel extra anxiety today. When does the depression lift? I feel like I have cried less on the meds, but still feel so down and unmotivated.
