No registration is required and your identity remains anonymous. My son has taken 250 Depakote twice daily for a while now. The tablets have always been a pinkest/peachy color. The last time we refilled it, the pharmacy gave us tablets that are big and blue. Who makes these and are they the exact same as he has taken all along? ## Hello, Lin! How are you and your son? What are the markings on the tablets? I'm sorry, but I can't tell you anything about them just from the color. This is a generic medication, so it's actually manufactured by several different companies and they can all look different and must have different markings. Can you please post back with this additional information so I can check them for you? Thanks!
My old depakote (divalproex sodium er 500 Mg was a large pink pill. my new prescription of the same pill made by the same Company [Teva] now is larger, white and has the number M473 on one side. Is this the same pill. I have epilepsy and valporic acid - depakote was the med that saved me. Thanks. ## Yes, the new tablet is also 500mgs of Valproic Acid in an extended release formulation, but it is not manufactured by Teva, it is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, which is why the logo is an M. Learn more Valproic Acid details here. Are there any other questions? ## My pill says DR (the old pink one). Is extended release the exact same thing? I was reading where some of these can be dangerous because they're given for different problems.......such as headaches. Thanks for your help...
I started on Depakote less than a wk ago. I have tingling & numbing of fingers. Is this a serious side effect of Depakote? ## Hello, Cheryl! How are you? No, that can be one of the normal/common side effects and many people experience it. However, if it worsens, then you should have it checked out by your prescriber. You may also experience nausea, shivering and weakness. Is there anything else I can help with?
I was taking Depakote and topamax together. My liver quit processing this combo and my ammonia level in my blood shot up off the charts. At this point I became very confused. I actually thought I had developed Alzheimer's. I don't know if it was the combination of the two or just the Depakote. It was actually divalproex which is the generic. The MRI I had actually showed swelling in my brain. After 4 days off the meds my symptoms cleared up and recent MRI's are normal. I really feel like I was not being monitored closely enough. It is very important to have blood levels taken on this med. Otherwise don't take it . I was lucky not to have gone into a coma. ## Hello, Fred! How are you? Wow! I'm very sorry about what happened to you, that's horrible. How are you doi...
Hi. I've currently stopped taking Depakote and I was wondering how long does it take for the side effects to go away mainly the eye floaters. ## Hello, ChickenMan! How are you? Are you sure they were due to the Depakote? Has this been confirmed by your doctor? It's not a side effect that's commonly reported by people taking it and, if it did cause them, it could be difficult to know how long it will take for them to clear up. How long have you been off of it? What are you taking instead?
I have been diagnosed with epilepsy/complex partial seizures since 1981. I've been taking Depakote (1000 mg) for at least 15 years. It has caused weight gain always, my neuro added Zonegran to my cocktail to counteract this but now I'm starting to experience tremors and cognitive thinking is slowing down. My neuro told me today that most likely this is due to Depakote. I am hesitant to come off it because it covers my seizures so well and offers a mood stabilizer for my PTSD. Has anyone experienced these side effects - my neuro expects they will get worse as I get older - and I'm curious what others have moved to as an alternative. I've tried so many meds, it's always the side effects that kill me. ## Unfortunately, these issues have been known to occur with all of t...
does it interact with depakote or klonopin? ## Hello, Alexandra! How are you? Kavinace is an over the counter supplement, so it has not been tested for possible interactions with prescription medications. Have you checked with your doctor or pharmacist?
I have Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension am slightly Bi-Polar. I have been PRESCRIBED Depakote, Letairis, Furosomide, Warfarin, Potassum CL and Clonazapam. I have been taking them daily for 8 years. I also take Sudafed for allergies. I'm worried that these could show up and prevent me from getting the job. Would drinking more liquids help or should I just take in my prescriptions?
UpdatedMy grandson has been taking divalproex 500 MG ER for bipolar disorder. We moved recently so I had to change drugstores. When his Rx (for Depakote 500 mg ER) was filled yesterday they gave us divalproex SOD ER 500 MG. The tablets are different. The original tablet was white oval shaped with A511 on it. The new tablets are grey with W725 imprinted on them. Are these the same thing or should I contact the doctor before he takes the pills from the new pharmacy? ## HI, Beverly! Sorry about the confusion. They are the same medication, in the same dosage, just manufactured by different companies. Since this is a generic medication, it's made by several different manufacturers and depending on who was offering the cheapest price, when they needed to restock their supply, pharmacies may carr...
I have been on depakote for about a month now. I feel worse now than I did when I wasn't taking it. I am so spaced out it's not even safe for me to drive. Is this what I have to look forward to while on this med? ## Hi, Deb! Sorry about the problem that you're having. Depakote can cause those types of side effects, but they should start to ease off soon. It generally takes about 4 to 6 weeks for your body to get used to a medication and the side effects to start tapering off. Learn more Depakote details here. If they don't, or if they get worse, you should consult your doctor as it may not be the right medication for you, or the dose may be too high. Is your doctor monitoring you regularly?
I need to know if this is safe cause I ran out of depakote and feel like I'm gonna have an episode ## Hi, Scott! How are you? I didn't find any interactions listed between the two medications, but they are quite different, so the best thing to do would be to contact your doctor for a refill on your Depakote. Learn more Depakote details here. How did you end up running out?
My husband has schitzo-affective disorder. The Depakote has helped him to remain somewhat stable with less manic episodes. However, recently, he was changed from 3000 mgs of Depakote (1000 every 8 hours) to 1000 of ER Depakote only at night....a reduction of 2000 mg daily. The first prescription was not ER. However, he remains grandiose and my question: Will the ER be stronger than the regular one? Have their been stats to indicate that some people do better on the regular Depakote rather than the ER? Is it true that 1000 mg is per 100 pounds. My husband weighs 200 pounds and it seems like he would be on 2000 mg rather than 1000 mg. ## No, the ER just means it's time released, but that doesn't make it any stronger, so he's definitely on a lower dosage. And no, the dosage is ...

Updatedis it harmfull to take my prescribtion 1500mg depakote if i am high on speed." ## Speed is harmful in and of itself, without mixing it with anything else, so the logical conclusion would be that yes, there must be risks associated with it. That's the reason it's an illegal drug. Learn more Depakote details here. In reality, it would be best to stick with taking your prescribed medication and avoid the possible dangers. Are there any other comments or questions?

1500 per day and is showing regular signs of hair loss ## Hair loss is actually reported to be a common side effect of Depakote (Valproic Acid). Referenced from: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000677/#a682412-sideEffects Generally, this type of side effect won't go away until the medication is completely out of your system. But if you haven't already done so, I would suggest talking to your doctor about any other alternative treatment options that can replace Depakote. I hope this helps!
I've been on Depakote for years and the distributor was Northstar. Safeway has switched to Sun Pharmacy distributors and I have bad stomach cramps now. Can new brand cause this? Anyone else have problems and how can I find out who carries Northstar product? ## There can be difference from one manufacturer to the other, there are allowable fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient and the inactive ingredients can be completely different. Since you've been taking it for so long, it might be one of those factors that's caused the problem. Learn more Depakote details here. Have you tried asking the pharmacy about ordering the Northstar one in for you? You may have to pay any price different between it and the other one, but they can usually do this for their customers....
