Day 1 Of Xulane Instead Of Ortho Evra (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI HATE this new patch already. Did not adhere to my skin as easily as ortho and came off about 4 hours after applying. I've been on ortho evra for 5 months loved it and never once had a problem but I already can't stand xulane and so I don't know what I'm going to do ! :(
My insurance switched me to xulane because it's the generic brand to ortho evra. This sucks I hate life.
Ps. I'm 18
Bethany I literally had the exact same situation. My doctors made me stop it because of clotting and bleeding for 2 straight months.
After being on OrthoEvra for 5+ years I was switched to Xulane without my knowledge because of insurance requirements. I didn't think twice as I normally don't object to generic medications... Boy was I wrong!!! Today marks one month that I have been bleeding. Addititionally, I am pretty sure I am now anemic from having a period so long because this week I have been especially tired and feeling drained with no real change in my daily routine. My doctor wasn't even aware that there was a generic version of he patch. She apologized for this fiasco and called in an RX for "Brand Necessary" Ortho. CVS has the brand medication and will gladly fill it for $200+ dollars as my insurance stipulates that I must have generic if it's available. What a pain in the arse!! I feel now that I must pay the money for brand as I don't really want to bleed for the rest of my life. Tbis whole thing is just ridiculous and I am so frustrated. Especially because I ise the patch more for estrogen supplementation than for birth control and it's been very convenient up until now. Hang in there, ladies... It would be my assumption that sooner or later all of our horror stories will add up and with any luck this bogus product will be removed from the market. Until then, I strongly recommend switching to another form of birth control if you don't have the option or financial means to get the brand OrthoEvra. I am fearful that the one term implications of using this medication may be as horrible and/or dangerous as all of the short ones already are...
Falls off super easily. I tried to give it a chance and in the first week of taking the medication I used all 3 patches. These are not dependable for preventing pregnancy. Especially since they fall off easily, and its slightly difficult to notice when they've partially failed.
One woman who reviewed this drug got pregnant. I certainly understand HOW. I called and left a review for the company and they said that it was likely just a bad batch. Given the reviews I'd say its a bad product. I'd call the company and leave a review with the FDA if you really want this drug pulled/reevaluated.
To everyone using xulane. Everyone who is on it should complain to the FDA and the makers of xulane to stop making these patches. My doctor found out that the ingredients needed to be as good as the ortho evra is not the same. I was shipped the xulane 3 months ago because generic became available, just as everyones stories. Then all of a sudden, i started to spot every other day. My period came days later even with my patch on. Patch would not stick correctly and needless to say, i had more periods and spotting throughout the 3 months. Finally my husband convinced me tp check myself out not thinking it was xulane. Doctor was able to see that its the patches. He ordered me the brand ortho evra and made sure it was medically necessary with no substitutions. Firsr they denied it and then had to call my insurance to appeal and it went thru. Im finally going to use my patches on sunday and get back to normal. I had been on ortho evra for 12 years till 3 months ago. Never a problem. Since xulane, bleeding almost everyday, got my period today AGAIN...this has been horrible. Cant even have a normal sex life without worrying ill be bleeding after he pulls out. Ladies, switch back to brand and appeal with your insurance if its denied. Glad i wasnt the only one goig thru this.
I've been on Xulane for 3 months now and I LOVE IT!!! It never comes off and I haven't had any negative side effects....I don't understand why everyone hates it so much but then again I never used Ortho Evra I switched to Xulane from Sprinte. Im 25 and I have been on the pill since i was 17, I tried the depo shot (Hate It!!) but besides that this is the only other birth control form I have used and so far I absolutely LOVE it!!!
Yes I have and very nauseous...
It's not "Obamacare" that switched you-- it's the fact that it got a generic and the company discontinued Orthoevra in the US. Completely unrelated from the president. JS FYI.
Honestly I think the only reason it says not to tape it is because the company that makes it is greedy and they want u to spend the extra money ( or your insurance to spend extra money ) to buy the replacement patch . But that's just what I think. I could be wrong.
I was in oe for 2 years befor having my kids and I was supposed to get back to it but the pharmacy changed me to xulane just like U guys! At first I notice how it peel off easily but my sking was all bad because of the pregnancy so I placed it in my arm and after the 3rd patch I put in my arm just peel of in the shower, I talk to my pharmacist and he told me my insurance was going to charge the penalty (total cost) if I needed a new box! I need the patch for tomorrow and I have nothing because I can't order anymore till its time! Or I have to pay like 100 bucks! This suck it wasn't my fault with ortho evra this never ever happened! Idk what to do but wait and messed up my system thanks to this stupid patch!
THIS!!!
I found out that getting it filled through Planned Parenthoog was only $20, whereas my insurance being run through my local CVS cost $35!!!
The Xulane patch is awful. I replaced it three times in a month. It comes off or wrinkles way too easily. I'm not even that active! I consider it a defective medical product and reported it to the FDA MedWatch online reporting system. We should all report it and get it taken off the market until it's fixed.
its been about a month since ive made the switch to xulane from ortho evra. Its ruining my life. ive become a mess. horrible cramping in the mornings, so bad ive had to miss work. The worst part is ive become a raging b****! I have never snapped this bad on anyone about anything and now everything someone does annoys me! I havent read any reviews complaining about libido, but i have none at all because of this patch. kind of defeats the purpose. but i literally have no desire at all for it. which is extremely depressing for me and my husband. THIS SHOULD NOT BE ON THE MARKET!
I'm worried the same has happened to me. Used ortho evra for 11 years.. first month using this new patch and I'm two days past when my period is supposed to start. If I don't get it by tomorrow I'm taking a pregnancy test. You should contact a lawyer. I know that if I end up pregnant because of this, especially since I not only use this for birth control but for prevention of ovarian cysts...I'm suing the f*** out of everyone.
Xulane will put you in the ER! Please do not take it! I have been nauseas for 15 days, then body ache and head ache started. I have an excruciating pain on the right side of my back, I have a fever and can't stop trembling and overall I feel like I am going to Die! Can someone please tell me how I can Sue this company?!? Do NOT use XULANE! I am currently spending New Years day in the ER due to this patch! Please listen to me!
Was on ortho evra for 5yrs with not one problem or sideeffect. My insurance switched to the generic xulane and it totally did not work!! To my surprise I am now pregnant! Definitely do not recommend xulane
I'd been on Ortho Evra for over a decade. About 5 months ago, my insurance switched me to Xulane unexpectedly. After just a few days on it, I had gained enough water weight that my boyfriend asked me what was going on. I also started having increased anxiety and depressive episodes. Within a week my brain was full of suicidal thoughts. It was a horrible, awful experience. I got into my doctor right away and she got my insurance to put me back on Ortho Evra. And things got better within a couple of weeks. But now Ortho Evra has been discontinued and I don't know what I'm going to use moving forward. Whatever it is, there is no way I'll ever use Xulane again. That was a nightmare.
Has anyone on xulane had issues with excessive mucus in their stool, plus gas and bloating? I've had this awful problem and started researching the inactive ingredients and realized xulane contains mineral oil which can cause these issues, ortho evra did not contain this.
I called Janssen Pharmaceuticals who manufactured Ortho Evra. I was told that they are no longer manufacturing Ortho Evra for financial reasons. It seems like a crime that insurance companies would only approve Xulane for most Ortho Evra patients, putting Ortho Evra into the bankruptcy basket for Janssen, ruining the lives of so many loyal Ortho Evra users by claining that Xulane is the patch! I almost died on Xulane after being on Ortho Evra for 8 great years! Does anyone want to get a legal suit going?

PLEASE HELP! I know it's about a 15 minute phone call but please call the company who makes Xulane and explain of all symptoms. 800-848-0461. They said when I called that more people needed to call for them to look into it!
