Is citalopram (208 1g) a benzodiazepine and does it work the same as lorazepam? Can you take citalopram for depression? ## No and no! Citalopram is an SSRI antidepressant, so it is not a benzodiazepine and does not work the same. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No, thanks very much for your help. But,of course people say things about meds and they don't know what they're talking about. I found some of my old meds lying around (citalopram)and I was just wondering what to do with them. Thanks, again

Could citalopram Hbr 20 mg tab cause itching of the skin on arms, head and face? Warning on bottle mentions "avoid prolonged sunlight". ## Hi Vickie, If it says to avoid prolonged sunlight, the medication probably causes some sort of Photosensitivity. Photosensitivity is a skin reaction (i.e. rash) that occurs after exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or an artificial light source. This could explain the very symptoms you're describing. I do also want to note that itching, rashes, swelling, hives or blisters, are all listed as severe side effects of Citalopram; in which case it would probably be best to let your doctor know about this as soon as possible. Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a699001.html#side-effects I hope this information helps! ## Wh...

I have been on Citalopram for a few years, on 30 mg at most but in the last year have been weaned down to 10mg (could not go any lower or come off completely due to side effects). Recently I have had problems acquiring my monthly pack of 10mg and so found an old pack of 20mg to tide me over until I can get my usual 10mg. Since taking the 20 I have been having dizziness and nausea for almost a week - spells in work where I feel as if I might black out and generally feeling off balance - Is this normal? I don't remember experiencing such effects when I switched from 10 upwards originally, just the first time I ever took them.... Can anyone give any advice? ## Yes, any time you raise the dosage, it is possible to experience side effects, even if you didn't experience them before, b...

Trying to determine what this pill is. It is oval and peach. One side has a line down the middle with the markings ip53. ## This tablet is manufactured by Amneal Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 20mgs of Citalopram, which is an SSRI antidepressant. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been on citalopram 10mg for 2 months. The last few weeks I have been getting tremor spasms in my left arm and really bad night sweats.. Can I just stop citalopram safely? I have had blood tests 2 days ago and all is ok. ## A slow taper is usually best, stopping abruptly may cause withdrawal effects, which the NIH lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, rebound depression, anxiety, and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications?

Is a Citalopram HBR 40 mg white oblong/oval tablet with '0 7' on one side and an 'A' on the other the same as a smaller pink oblong/oval 40mg tablet with '0 6' on one side and an 'A' on the other side? Please respond ASAP! Thank you... ## The tablet with the A 06 marking contains 20mgs of Citalopram, the tablet with the A 07 marking is listed as containing 40mgs of Citalpram, both of which are manufactured by Aurbindo Pharma. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

My doctor just switched me from Lexapro 20 mg to Citalopram 20 mg for cost reasons as I do not have coverage. It's only been a week and I'm feeling weepy at the drop of a hat...what is the difference in the drug and am I on the right "switch over" dosage? Thanks. ML ## Both of these medications are manufactured by Forest Pharmaceuticals, Inc.. However Lexapro is noted by a number of sources to be a cleaner, improved version of Citalopram. It is the active isomer of racemic Citalopram. Many user reviews I've come across report that Citalopram compared to Lexapro just makes them feel tired and "drugged", per say; while Lexapro allows you to be more mobile. Do you feel like this is a true statement, based on the equal dose you've been taking? Additional info...

Can cilift contribute to erectile disfunction (libido) and failure to reach climax. ## Cilift is not known to be manufactured in the US, so it is difficult to gather abundant information on the drug. However, I did find that Citalopram is reported to be an ingredient of Cilift in South Africa. Citalopram can have a number of adverse effects: Fatigue, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased sweating (hyperhidrosis), trembling, headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances, insomnia, cardiac arrhythmia, hallucinations, blood pressure changes, nausea and/or vomiting, diarrhea, heightened anorgasmia in females, impotence and Ejaculatory Problems in Males. Taking citalopram. An old manufacturer under the name of CAMB worked perfect. Pharmacy changed manufactures and the new one 'CIPL' is not working. Anxiety returned. I am told the pharmacy can't get CAMB anymore. Any thoughts? ## Hello, Leslie! How are you? Has there been any change? Which manufacturer your pharmacy carries, at any given time, can depend on who was offering the cheapest price at the time they needed to restock their supply. There can be minor fluctuations between generic medications, but they are so slight that most people adjust in a week, or so, once their body gets used to the one from the new manufacturer, according to the FDA. However, if you prefer the one manufactured by Camber Pharmaceuticals, a different pharmacy may carry it, you may want to ask aro...

A while a ago my daughter was being bullied at school, which drove her to take an overdose, thank fully she was ok and is doing fine now But my wife took it really hard and started to suffer with anxiety so the doctor gave her citalopram. Instantly I noticed a change in her attitude, she turned hard faced and cold toward me and treated me as if I was not there, then what was a healthy sexual relationship turned to a relationship with no sex at all, I've tryed to tell her that this drug has changed her but she is not interested, this drug had changed her from being a normal loving mother/wife to a woman who needs no love or affection. And now after 15yrs of being together she wants a divorce, to sell the house and go our separate ways, I am absolutely devastated I can't imagine m...

I just need to know if I'm suppose to take citalopram in the morning or evening? ? I've been giving this by my doctor and forgot when they told me to take it and lost my paper work that had the information on it. Please I need to know. ## Hello, Monique! How are you? There is no specific time of day that it needs to be taken, you can do so whenever it is convenient for you, just remember to be consistent. It may cause some dizziness and drowsiness as side effects, as reported by the U.S. FDA, so some people may prefer to take it at night. Is there anything else I can help with?

Since I have been on this antidepressant/anxity med (or any antidepressants for that matter) I have been tired all the time. I am on 20mg. I have no desire to do anything and once I am home all I want to do is take naps. I have never been like this when I haven't taken anything. This is the only antidepressant that helps with my depression but I can't stand the way it makes me exhausted all the time!! ## Hello, Nickey! How are you? It could be that you need to try a lower dosage, there is a 10mg dose available. That way it may still help with your depression, without causing such fatigue. The FDA lists its other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and weight changes. How long have you been taking it?

Dr has prescribe me this medication again, and i will not be able to get the medication till 2 weeks, i do have left over medication, can i use expire citalopram that exp. on 4/10/16? ## This medication does not become toxic, or dangerous after its expiration date, but it may start to lose some efficacy and not work as well for you. However, you can try taking it, if your doctor approves. Have you asked them about it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes.

Hello there my citalopram al doesn't have the 9 and 3 imprint on the one side all the one I see on the internet do is there a difference ## What are the markings on it? Citalopram is a generic, so it is actually manufactured by several different companies, to create market competition to help keep prices down, and each manufacturer must use different imprints on their tablets, according to FDA law. However, if you post back with the markings that are on it, I will be happy to double check for you to make sure you've received the correct medication. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes.

Hi, I just switched to CVS and my Citalopram smells funny. I didn't like it from the start and now I am getting headaches. May I ask, is it Gluten free? It is a white oval pill with A on one side and 07 on the other. Please help... ## Hello, Linda! How are you? Many medications do have a funny smell, but some manufacturers use a coating to prevent people from smelling it. As to the gluten, Aurobindo does use corn starch in this tablet, so there is a chance that it may be contaminated with gluten, if the plant the processed the corn starch also does wheat products. Does gluten usually give you headaches? they are replacing my lexapro 10mg for this ## Why are they changing my Lexapro l0mg. to citalopram hbr 20 mgs. what does citalpram used for. ## What does the Hbr mean? ## Citalopram is also an antidepressant, a generic for Celexa. HBR just designated the type of drug salt. Some of the most common side effects include: drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth and sweating. ## They just replaced my Lexapro 10 milg, to the same drug Citalopram 20 mills. I was on citalopram for nearly a year. They seemed to be working just fine for a while and then I noticed a gradual yet shocking change in my thinking and feeling. I had severe mood swings that could last for hours, days or weeks. I though more and more about killing myself and that no one around me understood. It caused havoc on my relationships, romantic and otherwise. I couldn't see how hard people were trying to help me. I was completely in my own world, going out and abusing alcohol and waking up the next day in someone's bed who I though would give me the world. The next week if grow tired of them and move on to the next. It finally got to the point where I felt utterly alone and I tried to take my life. Luckily I failed, but this forced me to really look at myself and wha...

Cilift + alcohol = Madness and unacceptable biopolar behaviour. My husband was diagnosed with chronic depression and anxiety. He is also a alcoholic. Will not stop drinking or even cut down.Obviously the madication is not working!!!! My 3 boys and I have suffered for 13years with this madness and it is getting worse. He drinks six normal beers every night and more if he can get his hands on it. He is has no feelings of responsibility or emotion once he is on a roll and all of us are in the wrong?????? I do not drink. My husband has a lifelong track record of drug and alcohol abuse hence the depression and anxiety which has kicked in at the age of 40 years. What are we to do, he spirals out especially if he does not take the cylift on a regular basis....I cannot always track this as he c...

I'm on 10 mg but started experiencing mild fibrillation, slightly depressed and a feeling of exhaustion has been increasing over the last 2 years, but my G.P determined it is depression which I have had before in my life at times. Always recover. I'm a 78 year old woman. I take Citalopram 10mg each morning....no increase in energy; getting worse. Weakness is increasing over time...not improved on Citalopram. ## Hello, Mary! How are you? You may need a dosage adjustment, or to try a different medication, not every drug works for everyone that tries it, unfortunately. How long have you been taking it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes.
