Chantix And Chest Pain
UpdatedI had smoked for almost 30 yrs and started Chanix two weeks ago. I haven't had the urge to smoke since I started, but my main concern is that I have a lot of chest pain. That will increase if I get winded or take a deep breath. Has anyone one else had this problem?

Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Chest pain is NOT something you should ever just leave go and blame on a medication.
this site is not medical professionals, so we cannot say for certain what may be causing it.
It could be the medication or it could be something serious. Please consult your doctor immediately.
Chantix contains the active ingredient Varenicline and is used to treat smoking addiction.
Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and abnormal dreams.

I took chantix for three weeks and stopped taking it a week ago. I should have winged myself off of it because for an entire week now I get depressed, have gas, chest pains, and get very dizzy. I have had three or four panic attacks this week since I stopped the chantix. Went to the doctor and he put me on anti-depressants and told me to give them a couple of weeks to work. He said I had a slight case of anxiety. Hang in there, but if you are going to stop taking the medicine, consult with your doctor first and save yourself some mental anguish. Hope this helps.
I started taking chantix on Jan. 15, 2011. Initially everything was going well while I was taking the first week. When I started taking the second week, my blood pressure begin to escalate and my chest started to feel a bit tight. On the 4th day of the second week, I stopped taking chantix but my blood pressure is still up. I have scheduled an appointment with my doctor. Has this happened to anyone else ?
I started taking Chantix January 19th... After I quit smoking I also started to get chest pains. When I went to see my doctor she took my blood pressure and it was somewhat high. Being concerned she prescribed a test that took my blood oxygen level. It turns out that there was extra oxygen in my blood that my body wasn't used to. This gave me a natural "high" which caused my heart to beat faster. So, although not medically threatening it accounted for the chest pain. I would still suggest you go to the doctor with your pains, but that was my personal experience.
Stop now. I had bad dreams and couldn't breath. It attacks the pleasure center in your brain so you don't enjoy smoking. Only thing is it takes away ALL PLEASURES and gave me the worst suicidal thoughts you can imagine. Stop any meds that interfere with breathing NOW!!!!
I stopped smoking in June'09 after 30 plus years with the help of Chantix. I had no problems, a little tightness in the chest which went away (explained by my doc. as the extra oxygen.) I did have some strange dreams but have had friends tell me that they did also when they stopped without Chantix. Some doc's think it is the result of the nicotine withdrawal. All drugs affect people differently, for me it worked GREAT.
