I've been seeing a lot of posts regarding taking benzos while on Suboxone. It is ok to take a benzo w/ suboxone - as long as you're taking the prescribed dosages you'll be fine. Now if you're taking 3 or 4 8mgs of Suboxone and say 5 or 6 Xanax that's not good, that's where the reported deaths have come from. I've been on Subs for 5 yrs. I've also been subscribed klonopin and am currently taking valium w/ it and it's fine. I'm on a low dose and only take what I am prescribed.

Novus medical detox in New Port Richey. Ijust came of off xanax 1mlg. And 170 mlg of methadone daily, but sometimes I would take xtra methadone up to 270. They depicted me in 12 days. I feel great but just lazy a little soar but flexeral and phenergen help for nausea and muscle spasms. $800 a day. Well worth it I was on meth gor 2 1/2 years. B4 that 3 more years with about 6 months break. I'm happy.

I'm on (24) mg of suboxone and I'm also on benzos. I take (3) mg a day of klonopin. As long as u take you're meds. As prescribed, u won't have any problems. I've been on the both 4 years now. And, it's all 4 Ligitical reasons. Now if people abuse them or shoot them up, then there could be problems. Don't claim 2 know it all, but, I am a nurse and worked in the field.

Wow can't believe the cost where do you live? I live in Adelaide Australia and I've been on subutex and now suboxone for nearly 8yrs and we only pay $3.50 aday or $25 for week paying upfront no wonder ppl don't get clean with cost like that.

Boy u said it all my addiction to lortab ruined my life sent me to bankrupt lost my wife I was taking at the end of my addiction 40 lortabs 10,s a day I don't know wat I would have done if not for suboxone

Mark, if u r on suboxone then u should take them faithfully every day. Try not 2 skip doses. R u prescribed the Xanax? If u r, take those as prescribed also. If not, b very careful. I'm on 24 suboxone and 3 of klonopin a day. I'm also a nurse and have worked in the field. I don't know everything, but, I can help with what I do know.

I agree with u. I have a history of being on heavy duty pain meds. Due 2 many of surgeries and medical problems. I'm on 24 mgs. Of suboxone and 3 mgs of klonopin. I also have generalized anxiety disorder and PTSD. And , as u said, " trust in your doctor and medical team." If u take your meds the way u r suppose 2, u won't have any problems.

I'm also on suboxone (24mg) a day and I'm on klonopin (3mg) a day. I've been on both of them 4 awhile now. Never had any problems. But u need 2 take them as prescribed or u could have problems.

I agree with you. I'm a pharmacist. It all depends on a) the person. Some people react differently. B) dosage. I suggest taking them apart. & truthfully, most of the rx I got in for suboxone. (Buprenorphine/Naloxone come with something for depression and/or anxiety/insomnia issues. Use it only when needed & only your prescribed dose. Avoid alcohol if possible. Remember, benzodiazapines are highly addictive & can have some nasty side-affects on some people. Use caution,.

Hope you can respond to this, I need someone with your skill set to answer this for me: I'm on a suboxone program in OH and my doctor at my last visit had a list in which he said was "sent to her from the DEA". On that list were all of my benzodiazipens that I have taken for the past year, which doc gave me the meds, and the pharmacy i filled them with the exact doses. He knew that I was on the benzo's the first day I went to him.(just over a year, a patient) He threatened to kick me out of the program but didn't. Along with more threats that I could possible be indicted for taking both drugs together, than to top it all off denied me to go out of state to see my brother I have not seen in 5 years. Of course I could go if i wanted to get kicked out of the program, that was my only option. I don't want to be kicked out so I cancelled my vacation. My question to you or anyone that may be able to help is this. Where my rights violated in anyway, if so how? I feel violated, this just dosn`t seem right. Thank to anyone that might be able to help me with this.

That is because 2-4 days is NOT long enough! I have no idea y they told u that..I've always been informed to wait AT LEAST 7 days up to 10...now with that said...10 days you've almost beating it but if u still want to try I waited 7 or 8 days (can't remember ) and this didnt happen to me as did the 3 days did! Maybe try subutex instead of suboxone at 1st and this won't happen

I have successfully got off 180 mgs of methadone...stopped for about 5 days and it was hell BUT..what I did was take half a sub (to see the affect) bc taking suboxone while on methadone is DEADLY...trust me,please? However..if this works for you I'd recommend taking suboxone no longer than 1 1/2 weeks bc trust me u don't want to be addicted to that! It's worse and longer to detox from..I hope that helps

Yes. You will be ok. I am on valium three times daily as well as Suboxone. Before the valium I was on xanax, however after finding out i get bad mood swings from xanax and am just not myself, my doctor decided on valium for my anxiety. You will be fine. Although unless it says to take that many at once you should be careful on just that alone. If your not feeling the desired effects of the xanax do not continue to take more hoping to achieve whatever it is your going for. It doesn't matter if you have had a suboxone or not, it doesn't effect it much. Just be careful. You may not feel the effects and think its ok to take more when it is in your system and pwople od due to changes in tolerance. Hope this helps.

From 's personal experience (I have had friends die from doing this) most people die because they are taking suboxone and still trying to get high from the opiates. When they don't get high, they keep taking more, thus overdosing and that can only end in death. This is a question and answer place where people are asking for other people's personal experience. I think the person that answered the original question was going by his own personal experience and from what his doctor told him. Try not to be so hard on people. They is an enormous amount of information on the net as you others pointed out. He just wanted to know what your personal experiences had been. Just trying to keep the peace! :)

I'd only like to reply..I was on methadone and Xanax for 6 years(granted,I DID take more methadone than than prescribed SOMETIMES..but not every time this happened)however taking benzos with the methadone I overdosed 4 times!(YES,after reading that I know how ignorant I already sound BUT..) I've NOW been on suboxone and subutex for 5 years and overly taking the benzos and never overdosed nor had any issues. My opinion would be that taking both meds as prescribed would be alright..but that's only my opinion..

I take 16mg of suboxone a day and 2mg of Xanax a day I just recently started taking both and I feel aweful I have trouble breathing and I'm very drowsy I don't recommend taking both

I've been on buprenorphine ( subutex) 5-6years now with 1mg klonopin (clonazepam ) for the same time from the same dr and he urges me to lower doses and get off klonopin just because legally i guess they were never supossed to be prescribed together but I have no side effects except maybe liver damage from my hep c and from being hooked on one drug to two now which is kind of a total b**** and its the dr and my fault I didn't NEED them once I got on sub cause that helped my anxiety but I got them anyway n now I'm stuck on them till I can detox from benzos at least . MORAL OF THE STORY IS SOME PEOPLE CAN USE THEIR MEDS N NOT BE RETARDED N basically TAKE THEM AS PRESCRIBED or LESS (thats what i do i actually take a quarter sub and quarter kpin more when i need it) U DON'T FEEL HIGH ON BENOS ANYWAY you Just get sleepy. Dumb kids/People just ruin everything for the decently smart humans .

I know this is an old thread but there is a lot of disinformation that needs to be clarified.

It is absolutely fine to take benzodiazapines with Suboxone. Be sure to provide your physician ( preferably an addiction specialist) with a full list of prescription and non-prescription medications and their doses so your physician can prescribe the proper dosage to avoid any complications such as potentially fatal respitory depression.

If you are at a proper addiction clinic (Methadone and Suboxone clinic), they will carefully monitor you the first day you are given buprenorphine while they adjust your dose.

If you are misusing your anxiety medication(s), it is absolutely CRUCIAL that you inform your doctor. Suboxone and any other CNS depressant, especially when misused can result in death.

Remember your physician is there to help you. If you have a valid prescription for benzos they will work around it.

It is protocol too tell the patient to not take any Benz opine with subs.
So party at your own risk and don't just gobble down a whole bunch of pills at once.
Moderation is the key

Go to build up a tolerance to everything.

Hey the guy maybe abusing the Meds and that is not a good thing however, he gonna do it anyway Someone might as well tell him the safe dose so he doesn't die. It's ppl like u is the reason why ppl lye about there past addiction problems because they can't get the right Meds for there probl. Squeal leaves me tired and zombiefied during the day. So has it occurred to u that he lied to his doctor to get benzos for sleep or anxiety? Instead of the doc dishing out squeal that is supposed to be used for psychosis.
