I have used methadone to come off of percocets before, but it was at a way lower dose.. I know suboxtons are what is recomended but from what I'm told @ my dose methadone is stronger if I use it right

Well the main issue is that the Methadone itself is very addictive and you could end up trading one problem for another.
That is the reason that Suboxone has become the preferred addiction treatment option, because it has helped many more people become drug free, rather than have to stay on a lifetime maintenance dose of it, as happens with most people that use Methadone.
What has your doctor recommended?
yes, it will most def. help and personally i think its much better than suboxone. now with that said the methadone is very stong and you must be careful with how much you take and how long you take it for. i wouldnt recommend staying on it for more than 4 or 5 days and then just deal with the mild withdrawals or try some comfort meds. after for maybe 3 or 4 days. after that you should be feeling much much better and now you will have to learn how to stay clean and sober. to me that can be one of the toughest parts. but goodluck and i hope i have helped and i answered your question as best as i could.
how many milligrams of methadone and how many times a day would I need to use to avoid the withdrawals of having taken 60 milligrams of percocet for one year?
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Where is suboxone not a lifetime med?? I took it for 6 months because my doctor told me it would prevent me from having withdrawals when I stopped a couple years of daily pain meds. I didn’t have “cravings” or abuse the meds. The suboxone was a BAD CHOICE. The withdrawals lasted a month instead if the usual week coming off pain meds. The next time I stopped taking pain medication I didn’t use suboxone and it was so much easier.
But most people here take it for decades just like methadone.
Re: jodee595 (# 3)
Don’t do it. Just slowly wean yourself off the percs.
These meds just draw out the process and make it take so much longer.
Those meds are very useful for people who take pain meds for fun, who crave an effect, if you’re not abusing meds you don’t need it.
Re: jodee595 (# 3)
Also if you’re legitimately taking it and not getting it illegally your DOCTOR will tell you what does is right.
Bill you need to do a weaning process to get down to a low doses and then quit the Percocet bc taking any other drug is going to prolong the detox. Yes, as you already know withdrawal is why people hate coming off meds. And no, methadone is not just for people who take drugs for fun like another person said who replied to you. If you had success before with taking methadone then it’s all up to you.
I was on 3000mg of OxyContin a day for 11 years and on December 11, 2013 I entered a Methadone clinic and I’m still going as of 3/29/2022 and have not touched another drug or drink of alcohol since. But I’m also in chronic pain everyday to liver cancer and Polyneuropathy and diabetes.
The choice is yours but I would try and lower my Percocet dose down to a low dose to where you are not experiencing withdrawals and stays at that level for awhile then lower it some more making sure no withdrawals and then finally none. But you and I both know you are going to experience some form of withdrawals even if you take methadone or suboxone.
Suboxone is a milder withdrawal than methadone bc I’ve done tried it but I couldn’t come off methadone bc I had a heart attack from coming off methadone. I would try to quit cold turkey but then I ended having 2 heart attacks and 9 mini strokes. Finally my heart doctor told me I’ll never come off methadone for the rest of my life due to all my natural pain receptors being gone due to the drug use. But no matter what advice I can give you the choice is yours to make. I hope you have happy travels in life and I’ll be praying for your recovery
