Can I Take Tylenol With Hydrocodone/acetaminophen?

I take two 5-325 hydrocodne/acetaminephin every night for back pain. Today I have a stomach bug and a bad headache, is it ok to take two extra strength tylenols for my headache?

I'm not a licensed physician but my informed opinion is yes that amount of acetaminophen will certainly not cause any long-lasting effects, so don't suffer, treat your headache. No worries.

sue, that is a total of 1650 mg of Tylenol and that is Too Much. You are not suppose to take any more than 1,000 mg Tylenol once every 6 hours.

Hi Sue,

Depending on what dose of acetaminophen you supplement with, it may very well fall within safe guidelines. For example, only taking 1 additional 325mg tab would put you at 975mgs of Acetaminophen each night (or every 24 hrs). Not to mention the FDA Drug Safety guidelines list a maximum daily dosage of 4000mgs (though the lower the better in my opinion).

If you want a safer alternative I'd probably encourage you to look into Turmeric (curcumin) supplements, for it too has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and most people generally tolerate it well from what I understand.

David, I know they have changed the recommended Tylenol dosage not to exceed 3,000 in 24 hrs, but i can't find the link right now.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I see what you're saying now about the 3,000mg per day limit. This must be fairly recent, as I could only verify it through Tylenol's official webpage (apparently the FDA hasn't updated things on their end yet):

"To help encourage the safe use of acetaminophen, the makers of TYLENOL® have lowered the maximum daily dose for single-ingredient Extra Strength TYLENOL® (acetaminophen) products sold in the U.S. from 8 pills per day (4,000 mg) to 6 pills per day (3,000 mg). The dosing interval has also changed from 2 pills every 4 – 6 hours to 2 pills every 6 hours."

I was given prednisolone 4 mg for plantar fasciitis and started itching terribly. So I stopped taking the meds and have been in extreme pain & unable to sleep. About 5 hours ago I took 1000mg of Tylenol. Can I safely take Hydrocodone 10-325 for relief?
