I have been on Bystolic 5 mg for 8 yrs. I had to stop abruptly 1 day ago because I have none left. I've been laid off and as a result cannot afford a dr.'s appt. to get an Rx called in. What can I expect to happen? I am drinking quite a bit of dandelion leaf tea to help with water retention since unlike Lasix, which i was also prescribed, it does not deplete potassium. ## Hello, Ziv! How are you? The biggest danger is that suddenly stopping it could cause a rebound effect, which may cause your heart rate and blood pressure to become dangerously elevated, according to the NIH. Seeing your doctor would be best, but if you cannot do so, you should make sure to monitor your blood pressure and heart rate regularly, so you can seek emergency medical attention, if the numbers get out o...

Is bystolic shaped as a triangle ago you can not cut in in half. I want to decrease my dose from 10mg to5mg. Can I take half of a 10mg tablet ## Hello, Jeromey! How are you? What are the markings on it? In theory, it should be okay to do so, since this is not a time released medication, but you should never do so, without your doctor, or pharmacist's approval. Why do you want to decrease your dose? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.

How much of 2.5 mg bystolic taken every 24 hours is still in ones system after 7 days, when the half life is 12 hours? ## Hello, Nosey! How are you? It would take 60 to 72 hours, so, at most, about 3 days, in a person of average metabolism. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

my dad has had an onset of both upper extremities becoming weak and he is now having a hard time combing his hair, opening things, and driving. his fingers go numb and are tingling at times. he has no energy and he's being to walk with a wobbly gait. he started taking bystolic in march and I was wondering if what is happening with him could be a side effect from the medication. ## Common side effects while taking Bystolic are: Headache, Dizziness, and Parasthesia. Parasthesia is a sensation of tingling, pricking, or numbness of a person's skin with no apparent long-term physical effect. It is more generally known as the feeling of pins and needles or of a limb being asleep (although this is not directly related to the phenomenon of sleep). To learn more click on the link below.....

Taking bystolic and my body is becoming more and more stiff. I now have trouble bending and straightening my spine. I'm walking hunched over. Anyone else have this experience on bystolic ## I didn't experience it with Bystolic, but I did have one blood pressure medication that caused very similar problems for me, it made me so miserable that I had to stop taking it. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and dry cough as listed by the FDA. There is, however, no reason to remain miserable. Please see your doctor, there are other medications you can try. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for reply. I will follow up on this with my doctor.

I am bystolic for 4 years. Developed a rash on my entire body could it be the medication. ## Hello, Acicia! How are you? It is possible, but it could also be due to some allergen. Do you have any allergies that you know of? Have you been around any poison ivy or poison oak? It would be best to have it checked out to be sure. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Are you on any other medications?

I am taking exforge. But BP was still around 145/155 over 60. HR Pulse around 65. Dr put me on 5mg of Bystolic 3 days ago which lowered BP to 125 avg. over 60 but lowered my HR to 52/58 range. I usually go on 2-3 mile but now get breathless when walking or working in the yard. Is this a temporary side effect and should I be concerned. ## Hello, Chuck! How are you? Has there been any change? Yes, if you're experiencing symptoms, you should consult your doctor, you may need to switch to a different medication. Other side effects, as reported by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination.

Can l take one Bystolic and 2 or 3 hrs later take 2 Imodium, 2 mg ea, when needed? I also have IBS. ## Hello, Noodles! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between these two medications, so that should be fine, as long as your doctor approves. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Bystolic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. It can be taken with or without food. Is there anything else I can help with?

found this pill, what is it? Pink with 3 sides FL on one side 10 on the other ## Hello, Julie! How are you? This tablet is manufactured by Forest Pharmaceuticals and they list it as being a 20mg Bystolic tablet. The FDA classifies this medication as a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

Should I be taking a beta blocker i.e. Bystolic and a calcium channel blocker "Enforge i.e. amlodipine together , have a nasty cough, lightheadedness/dizzy, swelling all over and stiffness/pain in joints ## Hello, Deborah! How are you? Yes, they are often prescribed together to help bring someone's blood pressure down as fast and safely, as possible. They tend to work synergistically, to help lower it more than just one medication might. As listed by the FDA, the dizziness can be a typical side effect, along with nausea, drowsiness, headache and dry mouth. They can also sometimes cause edema, which may explain the swelling and joint issues, you may need to be put on a diuretic, as well. As to the cough, usually once that starts, it doesn't go away and the person needs to swi...

I had a catheter ablation for atrial flutter in April and began weaning off bystolic in May after 3 months on the medication as my HR was consistently below 60 even post-ablation. I weaned off over a 10 day period and my last pill was on May 21. Since my last bystolic my HR has been fluctuating a lot and I just haven't felt 'normal'. My HR during the day can fluctuate between 70-100. With 2-3 hour periods some days where's resting HR is in the high 90s. For some reason in the evening (around 6pm) my HR calms down and is in the 60s and stays there until I wake up the next morning. I also haven't felt like doing much during the day and have some lightheadedness/more labored breathing when my HR is elevated to the 80s and 90s during the day (even if just sitting on the ...

My husband began taking 5mg of systolic for high blood pressure about3 weeks ago. I have noticed his mood change in a negative way. He seems withdrawn and I am concerned. Not sure if it is the medicine. Any opinions on the possibility of this being the cause? ## Hello, Marie! How are you? Did you mean Bysolic? The FDA classifies it as a beta blocker and they don't work well for some people. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. You may want to inform his doctor, as this might not be the right medication for him to take and he may need to try something else.

I'm a 25 year old female and I've been on 50 mg Toprol XR for several years now for Tachycardia. I've had Tachycardia my whole life, but wasn't put on medication until a few years ago after a full heart workup. I've noticed that my libido has dropped considerably as well as my ability to achieve orgasm. I am also on 300 mg Wellbutrin XR and a BC Pill. I know the BC pill can have that affect as well, but I noticed the side affect more so when I went from 25mg to 50mg of Toprol, so my suspicion is that it is that medication. I've done some internet research and it seems that Bystolic has less of an impact on libido than other Beta Blockers. My question is, for those who have switched to Bystolic, have you noticed any difference in libido? I am thinking of making an...

I found in the generic Bystolic, among other chemicals as inactive ingredients Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and at least one artificial color ?! Both of this chemical are well known cncerogen, any explanation for that ?! As soon as possible I’ll replace it. ## Hello, Snoopy! How are you? While some of the inactive ingredients may be known to be carcinogens, if you read the research studies, that's usually if someone is ingesting very high amounts for a long period of time. However, the amounts in a pill are minuscule and in those amounts, the FDA considers them to be generally safe for long-term use. This is frequently misunderstood, even when it comes to something such as dogs eating chocolate. A little nibble won't result in a death sentence, they'd have to eat a lot, in mo...

Bystolic was prescribed by my doctor to control high blood pressure. The same doctor did an angiogram and placed a stent in a major artery. Following the stent placement I discovered that the Bystolic threw me into a arrhythmia called PVC (premature cardiac contraction) resulting in extreme tiredness and constant fatigue and an 8 hour visit to emergency. After 24 hours of stopping Bystolic (a decision made on my own) my heart rate returned to normal. What doctors don't know about pharmaceuticals is astounding! ## Hi, John! I'm very sorry about what happened to you. And no, doctor's don't know as much about pharmaceuticals as pharmacists, but even with what they may know, they can't be sure of how any given medication will affect you. There are always possible side ef...

I am on Bystolic 10 mg and Benicar 40 mg. Is it better to take Bystolic in the morning or the Benicar. My bp is usually elevated when I wake up and seems that Bystolic was not controlling it in the morning so my MD suggested trying Benicar in am & Bystolic at night? ## For the best results, you should follow your doctor's instructions. However, it is normal for your blood pressure to elevate for awhile, when you first wake up. Its usually just due to it dropping while your sleeping, then you get a sudden spike, when you get up in the morning. That's generally not something to worry about, as long as the elevation is only temporary and it goes back down later. Many people see elevations every morning, if they check before they take their medications, too. When I first saw min...

Sheesh... this may be the current (latest?) way to treat high blood pressure (which has caused a thickening of the heart muscle). Now it will be two meds. Any guesses what effect this combination may have on my energy levels and ability to exercise and lose another 20 lbs? ## Hello, Mac! How are you? This isn't a new thing, multiple medications are commonly used when someone has severe hypertension, or treatment resistant high blood pressure. Once it comes down, medications can be removed, or dosages lowered, as appropriate. You may feel some dizziness, drowsiness and fatigue for about 4 weeks or so, but then the side effects should ease up, as your body adjusts to the medication. You'll be able to exercise, but the weight loss is unknown, because some of these medications can c...

I had an episode of angina and went to the ER. Assessment found blockage in coronary arteries, but no apparent damage to heart muscle. I underwent a double bypass. Meds upon discharge were Metoprolol 12.5 b.i.d., Lipitor 40 mg/day, andaspirin 81 mg/day. I'm 62 y.o and have no other health conditions or medications. While Metoprolol reduced my BP to an average of about 115/75, a side-effect of it was complete erectile dysfunction, little feeling in my penis. and decrease in libido. No other side effects. About 1 1/2 months later I went to the cardiologist, and he switched me to Bystolic 2.5 mg/day, which is equivalent to about 1/2 the dose of Metoprolol that I was taking. It also kept my BP at about 114/75. Within about 2 weeks, I was able to achieve about 3/4 erection, and somewhat ...
