Bystolic 5 Mg And Stinging Chest Pain

I am a 55 year old female who started taking Bystolic 5 mg 4 days ago for high blood pressure. I also have tachycardia on occasion and a heart murmur which is supposedly 'benign'. I am noticing 2 different types of discomfort in my chest area since starting the med. 1. Stinging pains in different areas of my chest and heart area at various times of the day/evening. 2. Deeper pain in heart area that kind of feels like a pulled muscle which comes and goes for a few seconds. When chest pains are listed as a possible side effect, what kind of chest pain is being described? Could this be the Bystolic causing the stinging and the deeper more uncomfortable pain? What is the Bystolic causing in my body to create pain? When I go to the walk in clinic they want me to go to the er for tests for heart attack because they aren't equipped to test, which I may do, but I don't have any other symptoms of heart attack and I think it is probably the new meds. I hope to be able to stay on Bystolic because it has lowered my pressure immediately where none of the previous 4 did consistantly (also they had intolerable side effects) and I feel calmer, except when I am experiencing the chest discomfort!

Hello, Sharon! Sorry about the chest pain.

I'm not a doctor, you should get those tests to be certain of what's going….

But from my personal experience with chest pain from taking similar medications, the type of thing you're describing were both attributed to different things, in my case…

The stinging, fleeting pain turned out to be esophageal spasms from GERD and the deeper muscular pain that felt like a pulled muscle was costochondritis, which is an inflammation of the chest wall that happens where the ribs attach to the sternum, it's usually caused by some type of injury or straining to that area.

Learn more Bystolic details here.

Either of those are generally easily solved, some antacids or PPIs for the GERD erosion and anti-inflammatories for the other.

But, as I said, only a doctor can get to the root of the problem and it is always best to have your heart checked out, just to be safe.

What other ones did you try and what side effects did they cause?
