I am taking pradaxa and want to change to a one dose a day drug. I have afib and want to make sure it is safe. I have only been on pradaxa for about 4-5 months. ## Hi Don, Generally, determining the safety of a drug is something your doctor should do based on your medical records and other personal health factors. But as far as any interactions go, I would suggest waiting till the Pradaxa is out of your system before starting up with Xarelto. Reason being is that there are potentially unsafe interactions between these two drugs. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Talk to your doctor before using Pradaxa (dabigatran) together with Xarelto (rivaroxaban). Combining these medications can increase the risk of serious or life-threatening bleeding complications. If t...

why will insurance plans not pay for this when dr says it is important nto take and you cant afford it ## Pradaxa (dabigatran) is used to prevent stroke and blood clots in patients with atrial fibrillation. Doctor's may say that it is an important medication to take; but this depends on whether or not you have a condition which requires this type of medication. If you do, I would suggest looking into other prescription drugs with similar indications. Insurance companies may accept one brand of this med over another. Ideally, you'd have to talk to your insurance company to find out specifically why they wouldn't cover this (as there could be many reasons), but I've seen insurance companies that only cover the cost of certain brand names and don't cover the cost of gen...

can i take instaflex with xarelto ## Hello, Ollie! How are you? Since Instaflex is just an over the counter supplement, it has not been evaluated for possible interactions with prescription medications. Have you talked to your doctor about it? They may have a better idea on whether or not its safe from the experiences of other patients.

Ihad my angioplasty done on 1st Aug 2011. I have been taking plavix 75mg for the past 2 weeks. This medicine is very costly 14 tablets costa around Rs1500/-around 30 dollars.I am from India. Can I replace this with Clopilet A 150 which also contains the same active ingrdinet clopidogrel anti coagulating agent pl advice I cant afford this medicine. ## Actually, Clopilet-A contains Clopidogrel and Aspirin, so I wouldn't advise switching to it, without your doctors approval. The regular Clopilet would be the equivalent medication that just contains Clopidogrel and, in that case, there should be no harm in switching, as long as you are taking the correct dosage. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Thank you sir for your reply Regards P.R.Narayanaswami ## I was takken off lipit...

How are you? Headaches can be a side effect of Coumadin. How long have you been taking it? Usually, such side effects will taper off after about 4 to 6 weeks, once your body gets used to the medication. Can I take supradol (after tooth extraction) while taking warfarin? ## Hello, D! How are you? Sorry about the dental problem. No, you shouldn't take this, unless your doctor specifically tells you that it is safe for you to do so. Supradol contains the active ingredient Ketorolac, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and it can actually cause additional blood thinning. Is there anything else I can help with?

Where can I take my mom to have her Sintrom test in Los Angeles, as she will be visiting with me for 3 months from Europe? Do I need to bring her to a specific doctor to have her tested and get her prescription? ## Hello, Carm! How are you? I hope you enjoy the visit with your mother. Do you currently have a PCP that you see regularly? If so, I'd suggest asking them, if you are an established patient, they may be willing to see her a few times, while she's here and handle it for you.

I am on effient blood thinner after a heart stent placement. I was just prescribed efudex. will this increase the blood thinning effect ? ## If you're using it topically, the side effects are usually minimal. However, it would be best to double check with your doctor or pharmacist to be certain. Is your INR checked regularly?

whats at least 5 otc drugs containing warfarin?? ## Warfarin is a blood thinner and is available by prescription only, there are no over the counter preparations that contain it. The reason for this is due to its unpredictable nature, it can react with many foods and a person's INR must be checked regular to make sure they are taking the proper dosage of it. Learn more Warfarin details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## i meant 5 otc drug interactions ## What types of food? ## i am taking the lakewood course also. so same question!! ha ha

This is something you should really check with your doctor about, it would be remiss of anyone else that isn't familiar with your medical history to try to advise you. However, your doctor will be able to let you know what you should do in such instances. Learn more Warfarin details here. I have been drinking & taking warfarin for over 1 year now pretty much nightly & have been keeping my INR 99% of the time where it is suppose to be? So what is the big Hype about not drinking or only 2 in 1 week period? ## Hello, Terri! How are you? Alcohol can also cause blood thinning, so for people with a very touchy INR that rarely remains stable, it could be very dangerous for them to drink. Learn more Warfarin details here. My dad always liked just one beer a day and he's also been on it for years, but his doctor never worried about it, because his INR usually stayed pretty stable and near where it should be. I take 3mg of warfarin daily. As supradyn contains vitamin K is it safe for me? ## It's highly doubtful, since Vitamin K can effect your blood clotting, it should generally be avoided, when taking Warfarin, usually you are even told to avoid foods that contain a lot of it, such as spinach. Learn more Warfarin details here. Have you talked to your doctor about it? They may be able to adjust your Warfarin dose to accommodate for it, or help you find a supplement that doesn't have vitamin K in it. My dad takes it and his doctor was able to help find several options that he can safely take. ## can you tell us the name of that substitute supliments ?

Found half or this pill in my house trying to find out what it is - WAR with TA under and looks like a 7 on the other side ## Hello, Angel! How are you? I'm not completely sure, since we don't have the full imprint… However, with the WAR on it, I think this might be a Warfarin tablet, it's a blood thinner. There is one that's orange, oblong and has the marking WARFARIN over TARO on one side and a large number 5 on the other, so only seeing half of that could easily cause it to look like a 7, since you'd just be seeing half of the 5. It's a 5mg tablet. Learn more Warfarin details here. Does anyone in your family take Warfarin? Or perhaps a visiting relative?
