Hey I've never been on birth control before, this is my first time. I started lo loestrin fe the first day of my period and it seems lighter than usual which my Gyno said is normal but tomorrow would be my third day on it. Could the birth control have taken effect by now to prevent me from getting pregnant, or is it too early because its only my 3rd day tomorrow? ## Hello, Jacklyn! How are you? Unless your doctor instructs otherwise, you should be immediately protected, if you started it the first or second day of your period. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes and spotting. If you want to be completely safe, you could wait a full 7 days, to be sure. Is there anything else I can help with?

i am 28 yrs. old and i wanna know why i can get pregnant since i stopped taking althea for almost 2 years. ## Hi fiona, Sorry to hear about your complications with pregnancy. I don't know whether contraceptive pills like this have any long term effects that people just aren't aware of in relation to getting pregnant. But from what I understand, infertility is not uncommon. Millions of women face it in today's society. However most cases seem to stem from hormonal imbalances or ovulation problems. It sounds to me like your best bet would be to check in with a knowledgeable gynecologist or doctor who can offer more advice through an in-person consultation. After understanding the cause of the infertility, treatment options may just require a simple hormonal adjustment to get y...

I am 39 and Have been on loEstrin 24 Fe for many years to now find out that it's no longer being made and was being switched to Minastrin 24 Fe. After being on this pill almost 3 wks, I have been an emotional hot mess , I cry for no reason at all , have gained weight , have had massive headaches, my boobs feel a lot fuller and bigger , stomach tenderness and cramping. Trying to figure out what to have my doctor switch me to ... Help lol ## Hello, Funmomof2! How are you doing? I'm so sorry about the problems you're having. It sounds like your just getting a bad hormonal balance from the Minastrin, from the symptoms you list, it's most likely too much estrogen. Your should be able to suggest one you can switch to that has a lower amount of it and will be closer to the LoEs...

I'm on my first pack of microgestin FE 1/20 and I've been bleeding for 2 weeks. Do you have any idea when you think it will stop? ## Hello, Kika91! How are you? It may last for about 3 months, until your body adjusts to the hormones in this oral contraceptive. If the bleeding becomes very heavy, or persists past that time period, you should consult your doctor as it may not be the right OC for you to take. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

This month I got on minastrin 24 fe and I took it for a little while and stopped 2 days before my period because I would miss a day or two and now I'm 11 days late on my period. Should I be worried? I have had period symptoms like tender breasts, bloated, cramping, just like my normal period but I haven't started it yet. My boyfriend and I have been intimate 2 times since I stopped one with a condom and one without a condom and he didn't climax inside of me either time. I'm just worried and need answers fast. ## Hello, Teri! How are you? Has anything changed? There is a risk of pregnancy, if you missed pills and/or were intimate without protection. However, as reported by the FDA, this could also be caused by taking it for several weeks and then suddenly stopping. You ma...

Have you discussed this issue with your doctor? There should be a different oral contraceptive that they can prescribe for you that may not cause you to suffer dysmenorrhea. Because I will be on a vacation next month and I dont want to have my period during those days. ## Hello, Charm! How are you? No, as long as your doctor approves, you can start it at any time, but if you don't start it on the first or second day of your period, it will take 7 days to reach its full level of efficacy in your body to prevent pregnancy, so you'll need to use some other form of protection for the first week.
