Big Pharma's Lockdown On Legitimate Chronic Pain Patients (Page 61) (Top voted first)

Is narcotic pain medicine becoming a thing of the past?

Why are doctors across America phasing out the practice of prescribing effective pain medication?

Will big pharmaceutical companies ever truly understand what it's like to face the other side of the coin?

Lately there's been a musty scent in the air surrounding the use of prescribed narcotic pain medication. Many doctors appear to be running scared as the DEA scours through fields of medical records, inspecting prescribing pads like a mouse scavenges for food in a dimly lit cellar.

Should the day come when doctors recommend Ibuprofen to a feeble man who's been involved in a terrible car accident (breaking several bones / requiring extensive surgery), is this doctor at risk of malpractice when there are more effective options available that they choose not to pick, out of fear? Fear of what? Doing the right thing? No, I don't think this is the reason... Somewhere along the line, in the not too distant past, doctors were loosely prescribing narcotic pain medication as if it would never go out of style. Nowadays, the harsh penalty of potentially losing their license for writing any unknown number of opiate prescriptions over so many calendar days or some other form of strict criteria, has been enough to prevent many physicians from taking even subtle "risks" with patients who are expressing obvious signs of pain and discomfort.

The unfortunately unique problem with pain is that it's not a physical object and in order for others to detect it, they'd have to rely solely on the backbone of our body language using their intuition - something that's gone missing in western practice. If more doctors took the time and really got to know their patients front to back, then they will be their own best judge of deciding what the right thing to do is, regardless of what the DEA thinks about their decision or what their drug representative wants out of the deal. Sadly, until patients are put before profits, the foundation of America's healthcare system remains in jeopardy like an iceberg affected by global warming.

While I believe that the vast majority of human beings in their right mind would choose to do the right thing, we must all work together to become the change we wish to see within every aspect of our lives; and knowing that by doing so, it will shine light on those crossing our path that need it most.

In the meantime, some patients may have to find another way to manage their pain without putting their life or health at risk. Others are turning to natural alternatives such as kratom, cannabis, turmeric and/or implementing various lifestyle changes into their daily regime... But the key is to never give up hope.

What will you do?

Warm regards to all who face life's challenges head on.

I lived in Florida in 2009 until 2016. That was under obamler’s watch—not President Bush. Obamler appointed all kinds on”czars” that knew absolutely NOTHING about the field they were supposedly the “czar” of. Now 100% of the demonRAT candidates for President are for socialism. Only socialists would like that. To say that “America is the greatest Country in the world—-now let’s change it! Is plain nuts. Every President has said things that were not true however I am interested in what a person does. Some of the things I like some I don’t but it is better than socialism any day. I do not want Argentina here—to any other type of socialism for that matter.

Thku for sharing this with us. Almost word for word I’m in same situation. To put the icing on the cake what we have been tapered down while trying to adapt...the medicine we are prescribed has been reformulated to where it’s as if we are taking placebo sugar pills! It’s despicable. No relief & horrible side effects.

You have some nerve to start a conversation and post your lies and then call out someone else when they respond to your baloney. From now on do not start a conversation that is off topic and then get mad when you get called out. You didn’t seem to have any trouble posting an answer when you had one. Now YOU get lost loser.

Re: C (# 1477) Expand Referenced Message

I do not know if you do not use spell check, a dictionary, just don’t care or what but the word that you are looking for is nepotism. However, that issue aside the opioid issue is a political hot button right now. People of all political stripes are coming down on pain pills when it is street heroin and street fentanyl that is the real issue. Normal street people cannot get a handle on the issue so they tasked it out on the chronic pain patient. The chronic pain patient is not the issue but it is so easy to go after them so that is what is pursued. It is like arresting a totally innocent person for a crime they did not commit. The pendulum seems to be swinging back in the other direction but we will see. Anytime a different party wins an election people do not like what the new administration is doing. I do not know what a different party would do but put other people in. Then there would be those that disagreed with their choices.

Couldn't agree more. These damn pain management doctors are just regular doctors who opened offices under this specialty, the bottom line is they charge a lot of damn money for an office visit and this is why they're in this business. One time I went to my appt., in which I have to drive 75 miles ea. way because no one in my fairly large city will prescribe, I was blindsided by my deductible that I did not have that day. This b- (the receptionist) absolutely would not let me talk to the dr. or anything - it was, have the money OR you will NOT be seen.Years ago you could go to the doctor and if you didn't have the money you'd still be seen, not anymore with this rude greedy younger generation, they are cold blooded sharks and this IS a fact. I have been forced tapered too but I was never getting anything very strong anyway even though I have 5 very serious problems with my back including a broken vertebrae. I know some people who have not nearly as many issues as I have and were getting hundreds of 30 mg. morphines and methdones! They were taking 40 pills a day! This is the problem, these types! The pharmacist probably does question prescriptions like this and it's been going on with these people for 30 freaking years! How is it that you've had so many operations for so many different issues and 30 years on you're still in terrible pain? No, they enjoy taking their pills and staying wasted around the clock escaping all reality. I've also seen them do street drugs on top of their pills, it's not about pain for these people it's about staying high. Now about the generics they have on the market today, they're absolute junk. They have definitely been reformulated and I believe a 10 mg. contains nothing more than 2 mgs. if that. Why do they have to put tylenol in these pills? That stuff reeks havoc on your liver and I hate that stuff! Even before my back issues tylenol never helped any pain I had. Watson used to be the best mfr. of hydrocodone now it's nothing but Amneal and Mallincrodt, suspicious? Very suspicious because this stuff is complete junk.

Your Wrong! What we have here is real.pain mgmt people. Getting wrapped into the drug war because years ago pill Mills with drs. who wanted to make fast cash, 20k a day or more. Added to the heroin oxy war. Now because of new guidelines nobody thought of patients who have real problems would be swept up into them. Some being cut to nothing... Cancer patients...failed surgery patients ect..My comment about trump wasn't an attack on him. You don't see me using childish names. I stand with my comments that the wrong people were put in charge of something they know nothing about. Some have given up and taken their life.. Some have no life because they no can't get out of bed to do normal house things. By the time the CDC came out with new guidelines. People were dead. Heroin addiction has been around a long time..but then they find oxy on foil does the same thing. Then came the elephant fentanyl in 2016 or so killing more. It didn't help at the time when marijuana and oils and cbds without the thc was fine to be good medicine, then Jeff sessions comes out and lies about it saying. That marijuana is 10 times more dangerous than heroin! So much silence rebukes that.. he's just picked the wrong people who know nothing... And though I may interject politics. I'm not name calling like a 5 the grader and there is no rules against it. There are rules against badgering though. Druggies don't come on here and whine as you call it... people with pain mgnt have been wrapped up in this Opioid was and hurt by it and dont know where to go. And when they find this place.. a place that they think can help. They certainly don't want to hear a bully.

Many posters have spoken or posted about suing people or organizations that are responsible for violating laws or their rights but no one, so far, has been willing to put in the work to find an Attorney that will represent them. Of course, one could be hired but few, if any, people have the funds to fight these large oversight groups. Many will not even try to find an Attorney to represent them pro se because the issue is a public relations hot button and most Attorneys would never touch this issue with a ten foot pole. It is just like many post about testing their medication to be sure it is the correct amount but when they are confronted with actually having to donate pills to be tested and the cost they just figure it is not worth it. It has to be prescribed pills from a Pharmacy. Any medication coming from a manufacturer will not be trusted.

If it had an effect on the drug's effectiveness because there is a new additive put into it, then it is effectively a 'different' medication... something is added to make it a different formula, so how can you call that difference a 'FARCE'??!

Exactly. It’s heartbreaking the lack of compassion to those suffering. So many would & would have benefitted w/opiod rotation...the process of switching from one opiod to another to adjust/provide adequate pain control for all suffering.

Why do first responders carry NARCAN! Where are these street drug abusers getting their drugs? The price of this 'lifesaving' drug has skyrocketed, yet we have drug abusers out there who has had it used on them twice, three times, maybe more, because they don't stop.! Why is big Pharma even wasting the money making this drug, yet have stopped making legitimate pain meds that there are now shortages of during this PANDEMIC! Fentynyl injectable is used to keep a patient calm and out of pain and keep them from pulling their lifesaving incubation tubes out.. But hospitals are now facing shortages of these drugs because they just aren't being manufactured...
Go figure...
Almost makes me want to go to the streets to get the pain meds I need!

I agree, I'm in my 60s and seen slow but steady decline with meds, not everyone abuses, but a lot people actually need, not everyone can handle this world the way it is these days, some people may not accept the way we are suppose to feel, (go buy bottle wine or carton of beer all will be just great) I don't think, just because a lot of semi famous people have over indulged O.D etc, does not mean everybody is going to over indulge, some people actually need these meds so they can have some relief from modern times and to ease the pain, thanks good luck everyone.

My daughter is a PA. When she was in school a pharmacy student told her generics are allowed to contain only 89% of the active ingredient. That was long ago. I think it was lowered to 70%. A report came out saying all these generics were testing at 50%. Largely from India. Most pharmacies use the cheapest version of generic so I bet it’s 50. %. Fillers are different and may effect results also! It’s absolutely BS! Dependency is not addiction! If it’s what you need to lead a normal functioning life! No more than insulin! They are greatly responsible for the increase in suicides even from just mixing other things to try to get relief! Kratom can be a help but you must get educated as it has a real learning curve!

The problem seems to rest only on the people that want these medications so they can get a 'high'. I have no idea how much that would be. The word 'pain' in itself a loaded word and using it only causes more. We should be talking about discomfort and extreme discomfort and it will help our brains. Those are not the only drugs being targeted because many psychiatric drugs for Clinical Depression and Anxiety are also becoming more and more difficult to buy because addicts have found a way to use them too go feel 'high' or come off of methamphetamine or coke, die....if you will, Michael Jackson. If our collective governments could find those people that abuse any drug, then we should all be free. On TV news I saw recently some 'stuff' coming in from China and the workers had to wear hazmat suits to inspect and destroy it. It was supposedly some type of opiate that is not real, just chemicals and just a touch on the skin would cause death. It's not Big Pharma's fault nor our governments' fault. It is the fault of the abusers who eventually die one way or another. Alcohol is generally slower as it ruins the liver and then one dies, that is, if one is not drinking and driving and then all can be dead in an instant. Hopefully, our Docs will stick with us through the thick and the thin. Apparently, the government in the US believes that marijuana is a gateway drug for more powerful drugs. I definitely am not seeing that happen in the States where it is legal for medical use. They have changed it so much that it does not have the strange side effects it once had and only relieves the 'discomfort' people are having. Hopefully, someday it will be available for all. Be well~

Re: Tobin (# 33) Expand Referenced Message

Well, I am a 2 time Cancer Survivor by the grace of God! Throat cancer & lung cancer. Was told by my Dr at MDA I would probably be on pain meds the rest of my life due to all the damage the radiation had did. Still ended up having my voice box removed because after 6 weeks of radiation I still felt pain the same as before I started radiation but the Dr told me it was the radiation but my gut told me it was the cancer so I stop going for the treatments & went back to the Dr that sent me in the first place. I had to beg & cry for him to do another biopsy, well they did one & said the cancer had jumped down a fraction.... In reality, I feel they missed it from the start!!! So I had had so much radiation they had to remove my voice box. Now I have a hole in my neck where I breathe to survive. The surgeon told me they had to remove so much burned tissue & the right side of my thyroid. My neck hurt every day all day. I really think I messed up when I left MDA too move closer to home. The first day I meet the new Dr something deep inside me told me to "Leave Now", but I didn't listen too that inner voice. Now the last couple of months I have been in so much pain. Don't like going to the ER or looking for new Dr's. I am lost, in so much pain can't think rt & stay pretty much in the bed all day. I have a family & grandkids I can't give a mother or granny attention they deserve. I pray all day!!!! This Dr just hit me out of no where, he wouldn't even look at me. Had given me orders to have an MRI of my neck & upper chest, the radiologist needed to call him for something he wasn't sure about & he did not even honor that. Went to my Heart Dr last week, he said I have some blockage so I am having an Ultra sound 9-5-17 to see how much. Scard too death!!!

Re: Claude (# 51) Expand Referenced Message

I'm with you Claude but I can't locate post #9. I don't remember what you said but I agree we need to do something. Living with pain hard enough but taking our medication away seems excessively cruel to me. I wish I didn't need medication but it keeps me going. I'm able to function better with it. People who take it for reasons other than pain will always find something to use and people who profit from it by selling it will find other means to make a living. I've heard of people who are terminally ill, in severe pain, whose caretakers are afraid to give them too much pain medication because of the fear of addiction. Go figure! When someone reaches the point of no return, I say keep them comfortable and let them go in peace. Google "Pill Farms in Florida" and get an idea of how this opiate epidemic came about. Interesting!
