Big Pharma's Lockdown On Legitimate Chronic Pain Patients (Page 57)
UpdatedIs narcotic pain medicine becoming a thing of the past?
Why are doctors across America phasing out the practice of prescribing effective pain medication?
Will big pharmaceutical companies ever truly understand what it's like to face the other side of the coin?
Lately there's been a musty scent in the air surrounding the use of prescribed narcotic pain medication. Many doctors appear to be running scared as the DEA scours through fields of medical records, inspecting prescribing pads like a mouse scavenges for food in a dimly lit cellar.
Should the day come when doctors recommend Ibuprofen to a feeble man who's been involved in a terrible car accident (breaking several bones / requiring extensive surgery), is this doctor at risk of malpractice when there are more effective options available that they choose not to pick, out of fear? Fear of what? Doing the right thing? No, I don't think this is the reason... Somewhere along the line, in the not too distant past, doctors were loosely prescribing narcotic pain medication as if it would never go out of style. Nowadays, the harsh penalty of potentially losing their license for writing any unknown number of opiate prescriptions over so many calendar days or some other form of strict criteria, has been enough to prevent many physicians from taking even subtle "risks" with patients who are expressing obvious signs of pain and discomfort.
The unfortunately unique problem with pain is that it's not a physical object and in order for others to detect it, they'd have to rely solely on the backbone of our body language using their intuition - something that's gone missing in western practice. If more doctors took the time and really got to know their patients front to back, then they will be their own best judge of deciding what the right thing to do is, regardless of what the DEA thinks about their decision or what their drug representative wants out of the deal. Sadly, until patients are put before profits, the foundation of America's healthcare system remains in jeopardy like an iceberg affected by global warming.
While I believe that the vast majority of human beings in their right mind would choose to do the right thing, we must all work together to become the change we wish to see within every aspect of our lives; and knowing that by doing so, it will shine light on those crossing our path that need it most.
In the meantime, some patients may have to find another way to manage their pain without putting their life or health at risk. Others are turning to natural alternatives such as kratom, cannabis, turmeric and/or implementing various lifestyle changes into their daily regime... But the key is to never give up hope.
What will you do?
Warm regards to all who face life's challenges head on.

I hear you loud and clear..I do feel very badly how much everyone is suffering. Everything you wrote is so true.. and ya, since when does everyone else get to tell us what we are and are not allowed to take..it should be up to two people involved to be prescribed the patient and the doctor who earned his degree to treat, help and heal sick ones..you mentioned a petition and that's what should be done because the government or whoever is most definitely not looking for groups to read comments. So it's kinda useless. But just a short time ago I seen a petition going around so I added my signature and will add it as many times as possible..I dont know how it gets done or how to start one..but we should start to look into it and I'm sure we can get many to sigh it because it's not just us the pain patients who want it but its family members to loved ones and many people do not approve of what's going on here..so I for one am looking around if I come up with any help I will post thx
Re: Bobby C (# 1092)
I looked the drug levonpho...up. Based on the information I read it sounds more difficult to take in order to get the full effect. Stomach upset being a side effect, but be warned if you take it with food the effect of active (pain relief) ingredients may be less. It's considered an opioid so why exchange what you're getting for something with more possible side effects? I'm not judging here, just seriously curious.
Re: Marvin (# 1112)
Thank you. I appreciate you being so kind. I do believe if we all work together and fight I know we can do this. It's time to stand up and kick their butts. We may be kicking a lot of butts. But with so many people together we can win this WAR against us. Someone earlier mentioned about starting a petition. What do you think about that Marvin?
Thank you again and have a nice day.

As long as I agree with details I probably would sign, but among our citizens who have enough freedom and knowledge about the truth instead of just profits, it would probably not accomplish anything. (One verse I quote the most: "Love of money is the root of all evil." I Timothy 6:10)
Re: Vintage Lady (# 1109)
Good evening Vintage lady. Thank you again for the compliment. Say I'm up beat like u used to be. I agree its miserable when someone cannot get pain relief the way we should. I'll be the first to admit when I'm in pain or cant get relief I feel grouchy who wouldn't. I was on percocet 10s with muscle relaxers 4 a day. Not long ago. I realized they were getting harder and harder to get and kept following the crisis we are going through today. and it scared the hell out of me. I then decided to get buprenorphine 8mg x 4 daily.. which is 32mg of bup.is like taking a Ms contin or oxy 80ng tablet. The fact that bup. is only half agonist it is still 30 times stronger than morphine. Doctors prescribe it for addiction and now they are prescribed for pain relief also. I take the highest dose and I have absolutely no pain what so ever..and my back is bad I used to go to PM for years. My nerves are shot in many places but for some reason in my arms and wrist are the worst. I used to cry in the middle of the night the pain a numbness is terrible. I feel none of that now..nothing pain is gone..and buprenorphine is not hard to get at all..even tho its considered for addiction or pain..because of the opioid epidemic going on now makes it easy to get. They are trying to push and get more doctors to prescribe it. Now I wouldn't suggest suboxone it has naloxone in it. Also buprenorphine. But I take subutex which is only buprenorphine. It does not have the naloxone in it. Not to mention the price difference. I kinda miss the pills but that's because I was one of those people that was an addict..but now I'm good. It seems it's also not only that narcotics are hard to get but even my xanax or valium to..almost impossible..its like what are they trying to do to us?? Taking everything away from us..its not right. And I'm as mad as everyone.
Watching 60 Minutes... seems Mallenkrodt was responsible for manufacturing most of the opioids that were being shipped to south FL in such large numbers to the pill clinics in 2010/2011. The same company that now manufactures the BS new Hydrocodone, Oxycodone that have no effects, such as Norco. Does anyone else smell something rotten about this? Still all bad media about the 'opioid crisis... nothing about the quandry of longtime legitimate pain patients... in fact, the doctor who was being interviewed in prison was defending his writing of scripts for 60 Oxycontin a DAY for one person. 60 A DAY??!! That was one of the rotten apples...
Re: Charlene (# 1061)
Okay, and since I am completely at a loss, what is Kratom and where can I find a reputable way to purchase it? Online? I'm interested! Thanks for your post!
Charlene (# 1119) --
I will also sign so please let me know. Thanks for the effort! We need to do something.
Re: Kaydollasign (# 1119)
I soooo agree with you, I have the same medical problems as you and a few others and I am so tired of being treated like a criminal or a junkie.
Re: Vintage Lady (# 1126)
I do not understand much about these drugs, and have never consumed one more than 40 years unless it was done while I was 7 weeks coma. My top priority in life is to prevent the cause, not trying to hide it.
If only healthy nutritionis food was eaten, that alone could prevent disease that causes pain, and just careful plans avoiding things cheap
(some error completed what I was not finished with). . . . Emphasis on safety with both actions and consumptions would save both pain and cost.
Re: madashell (# 1127)
It's either 3 or 4 that I use..and these are very honest and reputable vendors I use. I'm coming back on here when I wake up. I'm very sleepy and I want my notes in front of me when I guide you in the right direction. You did read the part about what kratom is, they call it a very selfish plant... if you're taking medication let me know. Because many, many, many people use this plant which taking a dose in between your usual dose. And that's how they get off the medication. And I'm talking mega people use it for many different reasons. It appears to me it's pain patients will dose in the morning using a green maeng da (works best) and the red veins at night because it helps promote sleep. That's why the red has a nickname "the pimp". I'm coming back to this post to help you with names and numbers.
Re: Barbara (# 1122)
Hello, his P. A. said he was having success with other patients using it. I guess it doesn't come from a regular pharmacy & is mailed to me. She said if it doesn't work that I could go back to my 3 regular opioid meds. Or it could be his way of not having to prescribe 3 opioids to the same patients. 4-6 times stronger than morphine. As long as it works I guess!
Re: Charlene (# 1113)
Mine told me every time, if it doesn't work, we'll give you back your other... just try this. Yeah right... it wouldn't work, but then would not give me back what I was taking before... Have to read more of this thread...
Re: Vintage Lady (# 1126)
Was there a name attached to the Doctor who was prescribing? Had heard from friends that a doc. we had know in Japan was tried and convicted in So. Florida for some such infraction. This was a long time ago.
Re: Charlene (# 1113)
Morning... my PA at my PPO will not even ask the doctor about methadone, Suboxene or Subutex. She told me, 'We are not a Methadone Clinic'. I tried to talk to her, told her she was the one who cold-turkied me off Percoset, she should give me something that will help me with that and the pain. I really don't think she cares... she has been recommending pain management... or even a different PPO. I have been going to them for over 5 years. My first PA was so great... we had a personal relationship along with professional and she cared. She went on to her chosen profession working with children with cancer... miss her so much. Ever since this new PA, like we just don't click. She lies to me, barely touches me, acts like I don't matter, does not do what she says she will, and doesn't remember what we discussed from one visit to the next. She forgets about me between appts... doesn't call in prescriptions. I feel like a new patient every time I go in once a month. So, seriously thinking about revisiting one of my old doctors, or one who is recommended. Thanks for the info and kind words... Keep Up the Good Fight!!!
Re: Barbara (# 1122)
Mispelled the drug. It is Levorphanol. Sorry about that. You probably looked up the right one anyways!
Re: Bobby C (# 1092)
No, I haven't, I am a big advocate for the meds that have been around for decades and are tried and true. Would be interested in knowing more to discuss with my PA... THANKS FOR THE HOPE OF BEING PAIN FREE!
Re: Vintage Lady (# 1126)
I watched sixty minutes as well... Was that doctor insane... he was prescribing as much as 60 pills per day??? His defense was some people require that amount... Now Opioids are not given in Florida period. I wanted to move there to be near my daughter.. I hurt to bad to be given nothing. If you are starting a petition let me know. I am not a good writer or I would try to start one... But I WOULD SHARE ONE WHEN WRITTEN. Thanks for oh what about Kratom?? spelled correctly? where can we get it to try.

I also saw 60 minutes this week and couldn’t believe my ears. People are suffering without medication because a doctor prescribed a crazy amount of pills. No one could take that many pills in a day. The doctor should have been arrested long ago. He ruined the lives of so many that rely on pain meds from conscientious pain docs for any quality of life! The whole country is suffering now.
