I took this drug in the 1970's while pregnant. Am looking for the side effects to the babies. Drug has been off the market for many years. Not sure on correct spelling. Used for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Thank you for any help you can send me. Sincerely, Dana.

I was given Bendictine in 1981 my nausea and extreme vomiting during my pregnancy. At 18 and alone I remember asking the Dr.if this was okay for me, was it safe. His reply,I wouldn't give you anything that would hurt you I took about 4 of these pills a day cause I couldn't work without them my head was always in my trash basket by my desk throwing up. NICE! My son is a healthy 28 year old SS Marine, fought in IRAQ and now is the father of a baby girl. I will be watching her health closely. Thankyou for posting your comments. And writer #16 - My heart goes out to you -really - I had a mom like that . Your comments make me want to cry. Not a day goes by......

I was on Bendictine in 1981, my son is now 27. He had no enamel on his teeth when he was little and they are marauded in color. He was diagnosed with ADD at age 14, which I never agreed with. It was the new drug to hand out to kids then. He was never hyper in the least. Very laid back in nature. He is a 6th yr university student, who does amazing at it and he is starting a full time job as of today. He is brilliant when he is on meds, which the doc's hand out like candy to him. Guessing what his problems may be. Unfortunately he has no skills at all for being on time, organized, has anger issues, seems almost like 2 different people at times. I have always wondered if this had anything to do with being on the med when I was pregnant with him. Now that I have read your letters and compare my issues, it seems we may all be onto something in common. I also have had problems with muscle pain, constant issues with diarrhea. I have a very healthy life style and family health history. Now I wonder if this is all connected to being on Benedictine, and my son's problems as well. Please keep writing and letting us keep up to date on our children's issues so we can maybe help them and see if this drug is the cause of the problems. It has to have a connection to the drug if we all have kids from the same age and time frame/ us being on the medication while pregnant.

I took this drug when I carried my son in 1977 for about 6 months and my daughter in 1979 for 81/2 months.He has narcolepsy and depression and a bout with alcohol.She has severe depression and a drug problem.Mydaughter born in 1971 with no drug is fine and my son born in 83 when I was on the drug a couple of monthe and it was pulled from the market ia also fine but my heart breaks for the 2 in the middle who can't seem to have a normal life I blame the drug

Has any of your kids had loss of taste and lots of bloody noses? I am wondering also if this also could be from the benedectin, I have 4 children and only took it with one who has these problems. All the others are healthy.

I am sorry to hear that so many children have had birth defects, etc. that may or may not be related to their mothers taking bendictin. I myself took bendictin with all five of my pregnancies (1961, 1964, 1967, 1999, and 1972). None of the children have either birth defects or reproductive issues. My understanding is that there is no current scientific evidence to support bendictin as being the cause of birth decects. It is also commonly used ih other countries for pregnancy-related nausea.

Wow, I just went through all of these and am realizing I'm quite lucky.
My mother took Benedictine in 82 when she was pregnant with me. I've had three ear surgeries (I was close to deaf), two knee surgeries (my soft tissue is completely messed up), reconstructive surgery on my stermun, I'm lactose Intollerant and have to be careful with gluten in take. I've had a lot of digestive issues aside from that. I have another sister who's older who's 100% healthy whos never had any problems or issues with her health. My mom didn't take Benedictine with her.
If anyone finds out something we can do about this problem I'd love to know.

I took bendectine in 1980 while pregnant with my daughter. She had over 32 speech defects, learning disabilities that couldn't be diagnosed, I suspect Aspberger's Syndrome, super acute hearing, her eyes are so bad she can only see about 6 inches in front of her without glasses, extreme migraines, social interaction diffuculties, mood swings, extremely painful menstruation, the enamel on her back teeth were messed up with holes in her teeth, muscle pain or arthritis....She is very intelligent, honors History degree, double Masters degree in business and marketing. She has a 6 month old baby who seems very intelligent but was born face up with a pointed head. I'm hoping that she will be fine! I've always thought that the bendectine caused these things.......What can we do about it......class action lawsuit anyone???

I am also a product of the drug prescribed to my mom in 78. I suffer from extreme allergies, hives, nose bleeds, seizures, anemia, badly crooked spine and malformed enamel on horribly deformed teeth. My tonsils were removed after they were found to have grown mold!
Not only am I suffering, my daughter is eight years old and is cursed with the same afflictions.

I took Bendectin in 1981. My son was born with hand deformities. I was in a class action suit against Merrill Dow. It never made it to trial. My husband and I were young and were talked into a very small settlement. My son now 28 also suffers from hearing problems and colon problems. I am concerned that there may be fertility problems as well as I didn't know that this could be a problem until after reading these forums. I hope it is not an issue for him. Thanks for the information.

So now that I have suffered MY whole life with deformed molars, nose bleeds, allergies, asthma, knee pain, insomnia,etc. I have also passed the enamel deformity on to my daughter. I want to take legal action. I am a single mom unable to afford the dental bills we face so where do we turn to take legal steps to fight this billion dollar pharmaceutical company?

I took Benedictine in 1978. My daughter was born in July of 97. She has had 2 surgeries for endometriosis and had a hard time getting pregnant. She has two beautiful daughters and had one miscarriage in between. Last year she was diagnoised with Raynaud's Syndrome caused by Rheumatoid arthritis. I've always wondered if taking Beneictine caused these problems for her. After I had taken it, I had heard about a mother who sued the drug company, because her son was bone with birth defects.

I took the drug in 1979; I was extremely sick during the pregnancy and I took it steadily for months and months. My daughter was born with severe brain deformities and some physical abnormalities. How would we ever get the records to prove we took a drug 30 years ago? I would love to be involved in a lawsuit in order to better provide for my daughter who will need constant care for the rest of her life.

benedictin absolutely causes birth defects. extra fingers or toes. trust me , my daughter has 6 toes on one foot and a friend of mine has 6 fingers on one hand. it is a fact that this drug caused it.

anybody that don't believe this drug causes defects has'nt done their homework. and yeah, other than a extra toe, my child has always been extremely smart and even walked at 6 months! i have one picture of that. but , yeah , i would'nt risk taking it knowing what i do now.

My daughter is now 30 years old and has been married 5 years, she is having trouble getting pregnant, they did all the tests but can't find out what is wrong, they said her cervix is completely blocked and will have to do an endoscopy next month, I feel so awful because I took the drug bendictine for one month,I was very dehyrated and in the hospital with an iv.My family doctor did not want me to have the baby said try for a healthy one, I couldn't do that I already loved her, now she may be suffering because I took a medicine that should never been given to a pregnant woman.I hope my daughter will be able to have children , you have given me hope.
