Bendectin And Birth Defects (Page 34) (Top voted first)

I took this drug in the 1970's while pregnant. Am looking for the side effects to the babies. Drug has been off the market for many years. Not sure on correct spelling. Used for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Thank you for any help you can send me. Sincerely, Dana.

Hard to prove this. Need actual, scientific proof. Not anecdotal evidence or "I took it, it happened, so it must be from the drug.". A very long, impossible road.

I took drugs during pregnancy. I knew the risks. Azithromycin for sinus infection, Zofran for hyperemisis, Sertraline for depression. My kid has ADHD, heart murmur, asthma, flat feet and more. Caused by? Who knows? I focus on getting him help: medication for ADHD, asthma, group therapy for social skills etc.

I clearly recall a conversation I had with my OB when I was pregnant in 1974. I had only experienced slight nausea...nothing bad enough to complain about...but my OB asked me during my first prenatal visit about nausea and pushed a prescription for Bendectin in my hand. I told him I didn't want to take any medications during pregnancy because I did not wish to take any risks with my child's health. He scoffed at me. I tossed the prescription in the trash. I later learned the reason the doctor was so hellbent on my taking the prescription. He was in a contest for a free vacation from the pharmaceutical company. He enjoyed many free pharmaceutical sponsored vacations during his years of practice. I often wonder how much harm he did pushing prescriptions on pregnant women for his personal gain. Unethical but should be illegal.

My daughter was born September 14, 1983. She is growth hormone deficient and now Bipolar. I took Bendectin while pregnant with her. Is there anything I can still do about this for her sake?

I was born with only one breast; they called it polands syndrome. I went through a lot in my life (surgeries) because I was born with no left breast. My mom took the bendectin pill.

My son was born deaf on the right side. He has lobar holoprosencephaly. My wife took bendectin for all four of our children. Two are now dead at 47 and 48.

My son was born in 1982 and I too was prescribed Bendectin. From birth he has had numerous medical issues, which includes ADD from a malformation in the frontal part of the brain. There have been a host of problems. Reading all these postings hurts my heart. He is 35 years old and I've always wondered, but never pursued the truth for fear of what I am reading about this medication. Breaks my heart.

my son john was first diagnosed as atrophe of the frontal lobes. after finding out about bendectin and four years of my research he was rediagnosed as lobar holoprosencehaly. one of the parts of his brain missing is the septum pelucidum which is partly responsible for handiness. my wife and i are both right handed. my oldest daughter was left handed but she said watch this dad and she could write her name with her left hand and simultaeously write a mirror image with her right hand. my oldest son said he writes with left hand but plays sports uses tool with his right hand my youngest daughter says she is both handed and my disabled son would have been right handed but uses his left hand because it works better. coincidence?my wife took bendectin for all four children.

hi there...I was born in 1974 with a dislocated left hip and curved left femur bone, missing my entire right arm and a malformed glenoid on my left side. There was never any indication as to why. last year while reading my medical records I found that my mother was given bendectin during her pregnancy with me.
I also always have bad side effects when taking pharmaceuticals. (I have chronic pain due to overuse of my arm...torn labrum and osteoarthritis) I 100% now blame bendectin. I am trying to figure out if it has affected me in other ways that I should know about in order to stay as healthy as possible.

I took it for 2 pregnancies 1976 &. 1980. My dr said it was safe. My son in 1976 was ok. My daughter in 1980 has many learning problems. My husband says, however, he & his mom seem to have these learning traits also.

I also took this drug my daughter was born in 1981 was born with deformed fingers on both hands and brain damage she has cerebral palsy plus epilepsy shes just turned 42. We went to parliament in the late 1980 along with other british families we were with an organiasation but the organiser passed away and we lost contact with them.

I took Debendox. It was called in the UK , my son was born in 1977. He had one leg missing all his organs were outside of his body and he lived 15 minutes.

If she had to Elavil to take she was probably taking it regularly, you could talk to an OB to see what they think. I would suspect one dose, even an excessive one, wouldn’t do too much. But if she was taking it regularly for mental health issues then maybe.

My wife took bendectin for four of our children. in my son with lobar holoprosencephaly one thing that stood out was the effect on his brain area which controls handiness. My other children all had handiness anomalies, two are dead. Coincidence?!
