Be Very Cautious Mixing Alcohol With Viibryd!! (Page 2)

This is a warning to you all... A little bit about me first: I'm 6'3" and only 130 pounds. Naturally I am very susceptible to side effects of any drug. I also didn't have my first taste of alcohol until October 2011, which is when I turned 23.

Throughout November 2011 I took Cymbalta. I also drank occasionally, but not often and not much. Cymbalta gave me a lot side effects such as an upset stomach, dizzyness, inability to sleep, etc. About mid-December I switched to Prozac, and took it through February. Throughout this time I drank a lot. Very often, and sometimes I'd get incredibly drunk, but I didn't have any bad experiences with mixing Prozac and alcohol. At the beginning of March 2012 I started taking Viibryd because Prozac wasn't giving me the results I desired. The first time I drank while taking Viibryd was on March 14th. That night was also my first and only ride in an ambulance. I drank a good bit of alcohol that night, but it wasn't the most I've ever drank. I also drank a little too fast. I ended up throwing up everything, then stomach juices, then dry heaving all the way to the hospital.

Since then I've only gotten drunk once while on Viibryd, and I did it slowly. I took about 10 shots of vodka but over a four hour period. I didn't feel any bad effects that night, and thought that maybe if I was just careful with my drinking that I could still get drunk while taking Viibryd. But the next day I was miserable. After havingstopped drinking at 11pm the night before, I was still drunk at 8am and unable to drive. The entire day I was sick and on the verge of passing out. I couldn't function at all. And the effects even carried over slightly to the following day.

I would just like to warn you all. It wouldn't suprise me at all if someone could end up dead due to an accident of mixing Viibryd and alcohol...

Viibryd is the only anti/ depressant I've ever taken that doesn't make me fat.
I should say I
Not only suffer depression but severe anxiety disorder so much so I disabled.

Leave the house , drive and live an almost
Normal

Years of suffering. I also take klonopin as needed because my panic attacks are unbearable and so intense
I almost pass out.
Between the two drugs I'm a functioning person. Now if I could only get out of the abusive relationship I am in I could have a life worth living.

10 shots of vodka is more than any sane human being should drink in a 24 HOUR period! Let alone to be consumed by somebody on psychotropic drugs! BEcareful kids!

The only thing that raises blood alcohol content (BAC) is more alcohol.

I was on Wellbutrin for 8 years and switched to Viibryd. After about 6 months, my doctor increased by dosage to 40 mg. Although I didn't realize it at the time, this was when the side effects began for me. Migraine headaches, nausea and diarrhea. These side effects where intensified any time I had more than 2 beers or 2 glasses of wine, although I hadn't realized the relation until this past week. The migraines and nausea were too much for me to handle. I stopped Viibryd and switched back to Wellbutrin. But the withdrawals from this medication have been outrageous. Mood lability, migraines, nausea, crazy realistic dreams/nightmares. I'm on day 3 of the withdrawals and all I can hope is that it gets better from here.

Actually vyybrid gives you a dose of seretonin in your gut and intestinal track. (Why I taking it). So I'm sure if you don't overly NEED that dose it might make you feel a bit nauseous or mess with your weight. Without it every morning I am sick the whole day, it would probably have the opposite effect in whomever is receiving a large un- needed dose.

That's part of the problem. As you rightly point out, almost all medications come with warnings not to drink alcohol - but the consequences of drinking on one medicine vs. another can be quite different. People prescribed medication with an anti-alcohol warning usually have little more information to go on than that - will it just damage my liver a little more than normal - or will it kill me? A big difference.

I take hydrocodone also and have just been prescribed this rx due to sdd and ptsd. after trying Zoloft and Cymbalta. I drink occaisionally and like it. to read these posts scare me into not wanting to take it. How does the hydrocodone and the viibryd work together?

I started taking Wellbutrin sometime around 2003, after a suicide attempt, have been on & off it. Since 2007 I'm on the 300mg XL, increased to help with my depression after my father died. Maybe around 2009, my doctor added Lamictal 20mg after another suicide attempt. Then sometime late 2011, early 2012, I started Viibryd 40mg. My doctor was concerned since my mood was more depressed. I haven't received an official bipolar diagnosis, but my doctor treats my depression as such.

My mother passed away October 2012, & I know being on my current cocktail helped me thru that. I had no suicidal thoughts & didn't feel overwhelmed by grief. Sometimes I think I should try & get off one of these meds, but that could possibly be the mania talking. I'm careful to follow my doctor's recommendation.

At 30-somethingish, I'm a bit heavier than I'd like, but that's most likely due more to my sedentary job & lifestyle. My weight's fluctuated since my 30s so I know it's me & not the meds. I'm also a hearty drinker. I've not experienced anything other than the usual hangover after a night of drunken revelry. There have been times I've partied til 2/3am & not thrown up. I do have a routine for before & after such nights & I pace myself. My friend & I can kill 3 bottles of wine, 2/3 beers & maybe a couple of shots or we do mixed drinks til the bottle of whatever is empty.

I drink plenty of water in between drinks, eat plenty of carbs, take B12 vitamin & have a friend who looks after me (& vice-versa). I know mixing alcohol w/ my meds isn't wise, but I am honest w/ my doctor about my drinking habits. Don't do what I do cause you're not me, but find your balance of responsible prescription management & fun & you'll find your happy place.

I have epilepsy as well and I take Viibryd too. I've seen drs from usc to UCSF and none of them have said their is a conflict.

I will say I drink socially on all my meds, and last night had my first black out. 4 drinks and 3 yummy firball shots and 2 margaritas from 11am to 5pm. Didn't get sick, couldn't walk straight but remember nothing about the day? Around 7 the blackout ended and I was still drunk and I was hurt. Fell in a bush and my back was cut up and bleeding, had fallen down some stairs and hit my head... At least that is what I was told. And when the blackout ended I fell over in a chair and hit my head again. I would love to blame the meds. But I have consumed more alcohol than his before and remember everything! Been taking all my same meds for years and the Viibryd for over a year now? Not sure what happened?

I started taking vibryd about 3 weeks ago and have noticed that whenever I drink beer I get a headache and start feeling really crappy. Just annoyed and irritable, and that continues on until the next morning, I love beer so this is a shame, but just a heads up.

I am so sorry to hear of your great loss. . . but I do believe vibryd can cause suicidal thoughts. Ii am a 57 year old mom in fairly good shape. I took it for about 6 months. starting at 20. then 40 mg a day. (doctor said it would help with migraines) felt ok , just kind of " even" so-so for months . the migraines did get fewer and less intense.but I started noticing that I had become agitated and angry, low energy levels and the last thing I wanted to do was socialize. . . no interest in hobbies and even food was a bother.. . . not like me at all. I finally realized that I was sooo depressed that I felt there was absolutely no hope. iI felt like I could die every day, and was so sad all the time.. I ended up so depressed I didn't know what to do or which way was up. I finally went on line and realized that other people had side effects like mine. I was relieved to find out that there was a reason for the way I felt . I stopped cold turkey (wouldn't recommend it) and felt like I could go crazy for about a week lots of crying, unable to focus on anything and very tired. . 2 weeks later I feel better. but still kinda anxious. if not for my children, I think I might have ended it all. I really think this is a dangerous drug and people should know that it can change you. I have never had a reaction like that. I have always been pretty tough mentally and physically, but this time I almost died. :(

You crazy fool! Who takes 10 shots of vodka even over a 24 hr period? You must be freakin crazy! What did you expect would happen? I'm surprised it didn't put you into a coma mixing viibrid and 10 shots of vodka!

This has to be the dumbest comment ever. 10 shots on medication. Come on use your brain! 10 shots for a person who is not on meds can give them alcohol poisoning, especially someone of your size. It sounds like you need to see a therapist on self control.

I tapered down to 10mg from 40 and the weight gain has stopped. Told my doctor I thought the drug caused it and she said "anything that increases serotonin can cause you to gain weight". So, I'm pretty sure the drug caused it.

I really liked Viibryd but stopped when I couldn't control the weight gain. 20 pounds in 3 months with no other changes to diet or exercise. My doctor said it's very rare and I must be one of the unlucky ones but I see lots of complaints on the internet about it. My stomach felt bloated almost all the time. I titrrated off just two days ago and have lost 2 pounds. Praying I go back to normal.

My pcp prescribed Viibryd 40mg after 2days and i feel completely irritavle, my entire body aches, more so in all my joint and I feel like I want to rip my hair out. I've been on quite a few antidepressants but nothing ever made me feel like this. I only get these effects after I've taken the Viibryd and it lasts for hours. I was at the gym doing intense cardo as well, and I felt like my heart was giving up on me.I went to the locker room to compose myself, and had no more energy to lift weights. I've only taken 40mg for two days, think imma stop. Hopefully there eont be amy withdrawl from it.

You know everybody handles antidepressants differently because we are all different. My experience with ViiBryd is positive even with alcohol. I'm almost out of my first week with it and almost immediately it started to work after the second dose. I did have the sh#*s after the first day. I do feel just fine drinking Evan Williams with it. And the energy I get from it is amazing. I am also experienceing It seems as someone said in a previous post that food is more filling

I am a 40 year old female, I recently started Viibyrd, today I am on Day 10 of the (tri-pack) inwhich Im now up to 20 mg. I am not a heavy drinker, but; before i started taking Viibryd i would drink a glass of wine just to relax after a hard day at work. Would drinking a glass of wine every now and then harm me?
