It is not an age dependent medication, this can be prescribed for anyone, who has an infection that needs treatment. The dosage, however, is usually adjusted for young children and the type and severity of the infection. Normally, the 500mg dosage is taken 4 times a day, for 7 to 14 days. It may cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, diarrhea and skin rash. Are there any other questions? ## I have had an std before. Affraid that i have one now. Chlamydia to be exact. My son is 11 and weighs 37.8 kilos. 6 days ago he had 39.8 temps and was diagnosed with tonsillitis. The doctor prescribed amoxil 250mg / 5ml @ 10ml / 3 times a day with a repeat.... This would see him on the antibiotic for roughly 6 to 7 days... I've since been to my regular doctor and she said 'amoxil' would not have been her 1st choice for this condition but that there was no point changing it now as he'd already been on them for a couple of days. She also said I could stop them after 5 days as this would be a sufficient dose. However we are always told to finish the full course of antibiotics generally, standard procedure when taking antibiotics. Is this really ok to stop them after 5 days (before all the contents in the bottle are finished)? I only ask because in th...

is this good for a common head cold and or sinus infection? ## Gimiclav contains the active ingredients Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid, it is an antibiotic and, as such, is only helpful at treating infections. Thus, it can be used for a sinus infection, however, it has no effectiveness against the common cold, since that is caused by a virus. If you use it improperly, you also run the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Do you have any other questions? ## Can you please tell me if this gimaclav is drug free? I'm a truck driver and get U/A's often.

I was sufferingfrom post-operative:exision of sebaceous cyst as mention in my medical certificate and for the second time to day i am suffering from infected sebaceous cyst.why is this? ## Infections occur due to infectious bacteria, there is really no way to explain why, or how, in most cases, according to the NIH. Generally, an antibiotic is required, and the U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. What medications are you currently taking?

Is Keflex (Cephalexin) in the same family as Mexapin? Can I take Mexapin if I'm allergic to Keflex? ## They are different antibiotics, but that doesn't guarantee that you won't find more that you are allergic to, that's the way it tends to work, those who are allergic to one, or more medications, usually discover more that cause allergic reactions. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can it affect the menstrual cycle? I've been taking this pill for a UTI and my period hasn't stopped. This will be the 10th day. ## Are you on any other medications, such as hormonal contraceptives? According to FDA reports, some antibiotics can interfere with them, which could cause prolonged bleeding. In most cases, however, if you aren't taking a hormonal contraceptive, it prolongs your entire cycle, so you experience your period later than normal.

I did it this morning by accident. Is there anything I should worry about? It says twice a day but I took them at the same time. ## No, but you may experience more severe side effects than usual, which the FDA lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and drowsiness. How are you feeling, now? Did you experience any problems?

Actually, I am taking citirizine for my rhinitis allergies and skin allergies but i was also prescribed co-aleva. Please advise. ## What is the difference between co aleva and citirizine. Actually as advised by my doctor to stop taking citirizine while i am taking co aleva. ## Co Aleva contains an antihistamine and a steroid, so it used to treat allergic reactions, and swelling. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, and fluid retention. Are you on any other medications?

I had a cold but now I have lingering chest congestion that builds up in lumps in my throat (thick slimy) and gags, choke, and make me feel like its drowning me when I am sleeping - I have to jump up out of bed and cough ad spit it out. This is different from regular cold and congestion which was usually watery. I have 8 Sulfamethoxazole =TMP DS pills and was wondering if it could help loosen the congestion? ## No, that medication is an antibiotic that is used to treat, or prevent bacterial infections. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. It would be best to consult your doctor, so they can provide an appropriate solution. Has this ever happened, before? Are you on any medications?

I took my first dose of amoxicillin at 4pm can i take second midnight before i go to bed and then start regime tomorrow? ## Hi Kennett, The dosing instructions for Amoxicillin are largely dependent on the severity and type of infection you have. So unfortunately I can't offer you any specific dosing advice without knowing what type of infection you're taking it for. You may want to confirm dosing and administration details with your doctor if there's something unclear about your regimen. However, as a guideline, the usual adult dose of Amoxicillin for "most types of infections" is 500 mg orally 3 times a day or 875 mg orally twice a day for 7 to 10 days I hope this info helps! ## I had three back tooth removed yesterday by my oral surgeon doctor and was prescribed am...

Hi, I have been on oralcon for the past few months. I had unprotected sex 2 days ago, and then went to the doctor for a UTI and she put me on erythromycin (an antibiotic), and I know that antibiotics may negate the effects of contraceptives but I just wanted to know if there is a chance that I may end up falling pregnant as a result of being on the antibiotics now (even though I won't be having unprotected sex for the next 2 weeks). My concern is over the unprotected sex I have already had and whether I will still be covered in terms of contraceptives.

I am taking 500mg of Cephalexin for Mastitis. One doc said 4x a day for a week. Pharmacist said 2x a day for 2 weeks. Does it matter? Due to nausea I would rather take 2x a day for a longer period. Thanks! ## I would suggest double checking with your doctor to be sure which is appropriate. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Usually, it is taken 4 times a day for a week. How are you feeling? Has there been any change? ## Feeling better. Will take more often now, talked with doc office today. Thanks!

Just returned from a trip and took a cipro tablet by mistake - thinking it was a tylenol. I don't need cipro. Will there be a problem if I just took the one? ## No, taking just one won't do much, if anything. However, you may still experience some nausea, and diarrhea, according to the FDA. How did the mix up occur? It never hurts to mention it to your doctor, to be sure, but as I said, just one tablet isn't likely to do any harm.

Hi, what if my dog took a piece of a tablet that fell to the floor? Is it poison to dogs? Thanks ## Based on my research, drug companies do actually make Amoxicillin for both cats and dogs. So in my opinion your dog should probably be ok in the long run without any worries. However if your dog doesn't seem to be handling it well, I would still encourage you to bring the dog to your local vet and have it checked out. I hope this helps offer at least some relief knowing that Amoxicillin is often prescribed by vets. ## Thank you! ## I was seeking information on amox clav 875 mg tabs, as they related to ingestion by my dog. Two days ago I went to see my doctor after experiencing a three weeks of bleeding / menstruation. I was told that there's no serious problem but hormone unbalancing. ## This is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections, thus it will not help with hormonal issues. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications?
