My mom83 started bactrim sulfameth/trimethoprim two days ago and is so exhausted weak upset stomach seeing guys on the roof hallucinations no appetite....think she should stop and take another rx for her bladder infection....what is a better drug? this is an allergic reaction, no? side efeects that seem disabling to me..... ## Bactrim does have what I would call "disabling" side effects, but I don't think that this is an allergic reaction, unless she is experiencing severe swelling or rashes of some kind. Hallucinations are reportedly a general severe side effect of this antibiotic, as is weakness and fatigue, among a large list of other possible side effects. Prescribed 150mg clindamycin 4x/day for throat infection. Have taken 4 doses. See sores on the side and back of my throat. Am very concerned. Do I stop taking it. ## To be honest, it is most likely that any sores you see have been caused by the infection, rather than the antibiotic that is intended to clear it up. My dog is on Nitrofur-Macr because she is no longer responding to toher antiobiotic for urinary tract infection. I am giving her food with each dose. Any suggestions. ## I'll admit that I am not very familiar with the use of most medications in animals, most of my information and knowledge relates to their use and effects in humans. However, I did find a listing for this in a veterinary manual, it isn't extremely detailed, but it does seem that it can cause nausea in dogs, just as it can in people, it looks like many of the side effects are very similar. It is an antibiotic, so if you are being treated for an infection, then you need to finish the course of one to eradicate the infection, but if this one is making you sick, then you probably need to switch to another one. My 9month old was given sulfamethoxazloe 1 teaspoon twice a day. He is not eating a lot at all and his stool is a gray kind of clay color with a very bad smell. Should i be concerned? ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic and it is a little difficult to say what side effects it may cause in a child. Have you contacted his doctor? Can smz/tmp tab treat mouth sores ## Hi Linda, This question has an interesting response because Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim can actually cause sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips, as a rare but possible side effect. If these mouth sores that you're describing are related to an infection, I can confirm that this medication is also used for treatment of both tooth and gum infections; although it does not specify if mouth sores are included in this category of treatment. If I were in your shoes I would consider trying clove essential oil for any dental or mouth related infections or sores. I was prescribed Clarithromycin 14 x 500mg by my doctor at Christmas for a cold that seemed to be developing into a chest infection. I didn't want to be ill during Christmas so I got the prescription dispensed. In the event I didn't need to take it but the flu I now have has developed into a chest infection. Normally I am prescribed 250mg twice daily for 7 days. Could I take 500mg once per day for 7 days or should I cut the 500mg pill and take it as 250mg twice daily. can amox/k clav 875-125 be cut in half? ## What has your doctor advised? Augmentin with Clavulanic Acid is an antibiotic and it isn't time released, so you should be able to cut them in half and take half the dosage, unless your doctor or pharmacist has instructed you otherwise.
