My child got a heavy chest, I put him on amoxyll corse but still nt clearing, can I give him ilivitrim ## HI, Diya! Have you consulted your child's doctor? Antibiotics, such as the ones you've mentioned, are only effective at treating bacterial infections. So, if his problem is being caused by something else, then they aren't going to help. You need to take him to the doctor to find out what's causing the problem and then discover what the proper treatment options might be.

Can this be taken for a "boil" type bump ? And if so when I was younger and was taking tetracycline acne medicine and it caused me to have a rare side effect where it caused excess spinal fluid, will the doxycycl do the same thing? ## HI Rachael, Doxycycline is used to treat different types of bacterial infections including, If the boil is infected it could possibly work. The only thing is, Doxycycline and Tetracycline are both pretty similar so there is a possibility that you could have a reaction. Increase in spinal fluid isn't stated as a side effects though. The side effects for Doxycycline are as follows: Stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. If you experience a severe sunburn, vision changes (such as blurred vision), unusual/severe headache, or change in the am...

I have had recurrent UTI's over 3years and had a variety of antibiotics --- ampicillin caused thrush. I now have been prescribed Tencorex, and, as it is a wide spectrum antibiotic, am wondering if it could also cause thrush? The lab. diagnosed "multiple organisms" when the last urine sample was tested 2 weeks ago

I have just finished a 10 day dose of apo cephalex for an infection on my foot, which has still not fully healed, and I have suddenly developed hives all over my body, as of today. Could the hives be related to the medication, even though they occurred only after that many days of taking it? ## Yes, it could very well be what's caused your hives. Antibiotics do remain in your system for several days after you take them and there are many people that make it about 9 days in and suddenly develop an allergic reaction. When I discovered one that I was allergic to, I made it 9 and half days in, I had one dose left to go. You should consult your doctor, of course, to make sure that is what has caused them, but there's a very good chance it is. Is there anything else I can help with? L...

shelf life of keflex ## Hi patty, From what I could gather, Keflex (Cephalexin) has a shelf life of 3 years. After this time frame, the medication may not be nearly as effective as it should be, and therefore may not be strong enough to eradicate certain types of infections at this point. If you do have expired antibiotics, it's probably a good idea to visit your doctor for a new script. This way you can at least be certain that it'll work the way it's supposed to and not cause drug resistant bacteria. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Cephalexin Details I hope this helps!

by-mycin 100 gms have taken for 5 days sputum still green 7th antibiotic at this stage am losing confidence in my Dr. can u suggest strongest for chest infection i suffer from hypersensitivity pneumonitis .allergy to penicillin. ## HI, Clare! Sorry about the problem that you're having. Which antibiotics have you tried? I've no idea what may be stronger, since you didn't list all of them. Another question, has your doctor done any lab work to determine the type of infection you have? Knowing the specific bacteria might make it easier to choose the correct antibiotic to eradicate it.

I cut my thumb a few days ago. the cut is doing fine, but the cellulitus is developing under it. I have 10 pills left from a previous script the wasn't finished. I have started breaking them in half to make them go the 10 days. Or should I just use them full strength for 5 days? ## If cellulitis is developing, then the cut is not doing fine. Cellulitis is a deep tissue infection, hence the name cell for where it takes place and itis for inflammation. And no, a few days of the antibiotic, or 10 days of half is not enough to ensure that it is fully eradicated and that also creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. You need to see your doctor to have the situation evaluated and, if there is an infection present, they can prescribe you an appropriate antibiotic, with...

What can I eat while taking this medicine? I am scared to eat pretty much anything?? ## Hi, Tubbs! There's no reason to be afraid to eat anything, doing so isn't dangerous. It's just that taking it on an empty stomach is better, since it allows you to absorb more of the medication, so it can reach a better efficacy level in your body to eradicate the infection being treated. It should be taken at least an hour before, or two hours after eating anything. Additionally, it's best to avoid dairy products, while taking it, because they can also affect the absorption of it. Learn more Doxycycline details here. Is there anything else I can help with? Are there any other concerns? ## Thank you, that was very helpful!

No my kidneys hurt, and I have a fits under my arm that has pure just wanted to know would it be a good idea to take the meds??? Or would it be harmful? ## Hi, Tiffen! Sorry about the problem that you're having. It would really be best to see your doctor for a proper diagnosis and to get a proper medication for treatment, if appropriate. You can make the guess that both are due to a bacterial infection, but it's very hard to be sure and taking an antibiotic inappropriately creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Why didn't you take them when prescribed?

Is it okay to take this drug with uricare? I have a uti and have been using that for the pain/uncomfortableness. Is it safe? ## Hi, Court! Unfortunately, since the UriCare is an over the counter herbal supplement, it has not been evaluated for possible interactions with prescription medications. I have been on Azulfine for many years. Very low dose right now. I have an infection from surgery and my doc put me on bactrim. I see it has a sulfa component. I am wondering if it is going to heal a skin infection ## Hi, Lisa! How are you? Actually, the Azulfidine tends to increase the efficacy of the Sulfamethoxazole in the Bactrim, which may make it work better, but it also increases the risk of adverse side effects. You can learn more Azulfidine details here and you can find more Bactrim details here. In light of that, you should check with your doctor and make sure they are safe to take together, because sulfa based antibiotics can cause some problematic side effects. its a white cirular shape pill..... Trimetoprim Y Sulfametoxazole Tabletas Bp..... is it a broadbase antibiotic pill?? and can it use for anything?? ## It is an antibiotic that can treat bacterial infections, however, it shouldn't be used unless your doctor has prescribed it for you and confirmed the presence of an infection. Learn more SMZ/TMP details here. There are some infections that respond better to other antibiotics, so it may not always be the most appropriate choice. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Additionally, if you are taking it and start experiencing hives, then please seek medical attention immediately, as that could be the sign of a serious allergic reaction starting.
