My 1yr old son has been prescribed Ofloxacin suspension for watery Diarrhoea that he has been suffering from for the last 4 days. Doctors please advise. ## can a 4 month baby use this medicine ## If it were my child, I would not give them this antibiotic due to the risks which were already mentioned. Learn more Ofloxacin details here. And no, it isn't likely to help with diarrhea, since most bouts of it are caused by viruses or food poisoning, neither of which are bacterial infections, which is what an antibiotic treats. Has your child improved any? ## I know its too late to reply this qu...
I've been using Purbac for a month now. Can they prevent me from falling pregnant? Secondly I've recently gain weight, can it be because of them because i'm only taking it with Texa Allegy tablets for my skin as prescribed by my Dermatologist. ## Dear Pontsho, I've always was told, when u r on birth control and antibiotics 2 use back up protection. Something about how antibiotics can interfere with the full effect of birth control. ## There are some antibiotics that don't, but this one can, because it affects how much estrogen you absorb from them, so they may not work to prevent ovulation and pregnancy, while you are on the antibiotic. If you've been actively engaging in intercourse, it would be best to have yourself checked for pregnancy and, if you aren't,...

About a week and a half ago I came down with a really bad sore throat. Swollen tonsils. White pus on them. Slight, low-grade fever. No coughing. No sinus issues. Some body/joint/muscle aches. Rapid strep (for Type A) came back negative. Mono test was negative. But I was given Z-Pak antibiotic for three days. That helped. Sore throat was almost gone. Then I got hit with a different kind of sore throat. Pain felt different. Then I started getting small "white head" type pimples on my neck and shoulders. I went back to the doctor. Doctor's GUESS was that it's staph. I was in a hot tub about a week ago. So that's why she guessed staph. But no test was actually done to confirm. But rash doesn't itch. It's not painful. I wouldn't even know it was there if I cou...

I took one pota-vi-kin yesterday and I think it is making me feel better already. ## Dear Mae, is there directions on the bottle or package? I would follow them. If no directions, u can call any pharmacy and ask them, or, ask your Dr. ## @Mae, Were you diagnosed with a respiratory tract infection by chance? According to a drug monograph on nih.gov, the "usual" adult dosage recommendations for a mild to moderately severe respiratory tract infection is listed at 250 to 500 mgs (or 400,000 to 800,000 U) every 6 to 8 hours for 10 days. Under those dosing protocols, you'd end up taking 3 to 4 tablets throughout ...
Can this antibiotic be used to treat an infection of the molar tooth? ## Hello, Celeste! How are you? Sorry about the dental issue. No, this antibiotic really has very limited use and isn't likely to help with a dental infection. Additionally, no antibiotic will fix whatever underlying issue has caused the infection, so you need to see a dentist, anyway, Is there anything else I can help with?
I have a history of sinus infections, i have this medication left from previous infection its expired on 3/15/2012 is it still usable. can not go to the dr. no insurance. ## Hello, Hazeleyes! How are you? No, it isn't a good idea to use an expired antibiotic. They lose efficacy over time and that creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, that problem may also be increased if you don't have enough to complete a full course of treatment. Are there any low-income clinics in your area? They are usually much cheaper than going to a private physician.
my wife has been prescribed sulfamethoxazole/tmp ds.is this for venereal disease?should i get tested and/or treated?she has had severe itching in her pubic area and red bumps.if i need to be treated would it show on a blood test and how? ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic, it is used to treat many types of infections. First of all, an infection is not the same as a disease. An infection can be cleared up with the use of the proper medications. A disease is a condition for which these is no cure. And second, just because she has been given an antibiotic, it doesn't mean that she has any type of venereal or sexually transmitted disease. Women can get infections from other things, such as yeast infections and, if it made her itch and she scratched, it could very wel...

There are no problems or interactions that I found listed between the two and there are some cases were taking more than one antibiotic at a time is necessary, but you should only do so if your doctor has said it is necessary. ## My ear was bit by a person skin roped off puncher wounds from teeth.which antibiotic would be the best to use to help stop infections ERA tabs orsulfamethoxazole-TMP DSTAB
what is the white powdery sediment that collects at the bottom of my child's Betamox syrup bottle? ## Are you making sure to shake the medication to mix it, when you give your child a dose? Betamox contains the active ingredient Amoxicillin, which is an antibiotic, but these suspensions usually start out as powders at the pharmacy, which are mixed with purified water, at the time they are dispensed to you. Thus, as it sits, it is normal for some of the medication to settle back out, just as would happen with any other powder solid that you mix with a liquid and let sit for awhile. That's why you are supposed to shake the bottle to mix well, before giving your child a dose. ## I've got the baby girl, she is 7 months she is having sore inside de mouth, she can't eat, she is ...

How are you? It may help, but 5 days may not be enough to completely eradicate the infection and it will not correct the underlying cause of the dental infection, so you'll still need to see your dentist, or the infection will keep returning. Is there anything else I can help with?
Can Ceftas 200 be taken during chicken pox ## Hello, Sadhna! How are you? It will not do anything to help chicken pox. This is an antibiotic that will only help with bacterial infections, however, chicken pox is caused by a virus. Is there anything else I can help with?
Hello, I've been taking cephalexin to treat an arm infection and I've had an itchy/runny nose, sneezing, and mild headaches since I started taking it. I don't see this as a side effect. Has anyone else had this response? It seems like a mild allergic reaction. ## Hello, Raquel! How are you? It's possible that you have just caught a cold or are having an allergy attack to something environmental. It would be very unusual for an oral antibiotic to manifest an allergy with those symptoms. Have you consulted your doctor?
I have been prescribed antibiotics frequently by doctors. I frequently have infections related to bacterial infections and have noticed something strange slowly occurring. It started in my right leg then the left knee. I can't straighten either leg. Tingling and then it felt like a ball under my skin. My hands are showing hard clumps. Two PCPs have told me it is my tendons. Pain numbness the curling up of tendons are the symptoms. Is this from the heavy use of antibiotics? ## Hello, Connie! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. Usually, what some antibiotics cause as a side effect are tendon ruptures. What did your doctors say have caused your issue? What treatment options have they offered?
I have bactrim that expired 10 days ago. Is it safe to take? ## Dear Michelle, I wouldn't take any medications after they expired. If u need a new script, call you're Dr. No medications should b used if they have expired. I just cleaned out medicine cabinet. ## To add some specifics, antibiotics are very problematic, once past their expiration, because as they begin to lose efficacy, they may not completely eradicate bacteria, which creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Are there any other questions or concerns?
i can take amoxycillin... can i take cephalexin 500mg?? ## Hello, Libby! How are you? You can or cannot take Amoxicillin? Has your doctor prescribed the Cephalexin? ## @Libby - do you have any known medication allergies? Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic, whereas Cephalexin is a cephalosporin antibiotic. They are generally prescribed for similar types of bacterial infections (Cephalexin being given to those sensitive to penicillin antibiotics). I think you should be fine, just be sure to pay close attention to listed side effects or signs of an allergic reaction. When in doubt double check with your prescriber as well. Some possible side effects of the Cephalexin are: "Common adverse effects include digestive system upset such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and abd...
