You should just avoid taking it with dairy products or grapefruit, because those can sometimes affect the absorption of some medications. Side effects to this antibiotic may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Recently the same day, I started taking 2 medicines. ChlorTabs (4mg/3-4 times daily) and Levaquin (500mg 1/day). Simultaneously, I began having backache around the kidneys - first time. Did 1 of meds caused this? which one? ## Yes. Almost certainly this was a result of the Levaquin, which can have side effects that range all the way from minor to disabling. See the page on Side Effects of Levaquin to see why if you ever have a choice of antibiotics, you should always choose to have a drug that is not in the Fluoroquinolone family of antibiotics. They are very dangerous. And now that you have had a reaction to one, you should avoid all of the drugs in this class of antibiotics forever unless you have a life threatening illness than can't be solved without these drugs. You've prov...

I was prescribed doxycycline for uti/possible pelvic infection. I saw 2 doctors and they told me two different things. I have been on the medicine for 3 days and am experiencing severe headaches, extreme pressure in my stomach and bloating. Is this normal? Should I stop taking it? ## No, it shouldn't cause such extreme headaches and stomach pressure, but it's hard to say if that may be from the medication, or the infection itself. It would be best to have it checked out to be certain. Normal side effects to this antibiotic may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I got poked by a safety pin in my knuckle and it went into my finger pretty deep. I took it out and it immediately was swollen and blackish blue color. It looks like it punctured my vein or something or popped a blood vessel. I have a brand new prescription of amoxicillin, would this help or do you think this will just go away on its own? Also I'm 7 months pregnant, is amoxicillin safe to take with the baby? ## Amoxicillin is a class B drug which means it has been studied in animals to 10x what we give to people and no birth defects have been found. If you were breastfeeding, there would be some crossover as it is present in small amounts in breast milk, but it is one of the safest antibiotics for pregnant women on the market. ## However, it will not help with this type of issue. That does help many people with the nausea and heartburn issues, when they are taking this medication. It does work best if taken on an empty stomach, but it will still be effective if taken with food. Learn more Doxycycline details here. ## I have been taking with food..... i have now began ...

I DISCOVERED LAST NIGHT I HAVE SHINGLES OUTBREAK JUST ON THE RIGHT SIDE FROM NEXT TO MY NAVEL UP UNTIL MY MIDDLE BUT LUCKILY NOT STILL NOT AROUND MY BACK WILL PURBAC 500MG HELP? ACNE STARTED COMING ON AND I AM 54 NOW WILL IT HELP TO CLEAR IT UP? ## Hello, Rissa! How are you? No, an antibiotic will not help with Shingles, since that is caused by a virus. What have you tried for the acne? If it's due to hormonal fluctuations, which are very common at your age, an antibiotic likely won't help it, either. What has your doctor advised you to use?

I have itchy skin after taking Macrodantin for a week. Is there anything I can do to alleviate this and how long will this itch last, as I have to take the antibiotics for another 3 months? ## Hello, Patti! How are you? If you're getting itchy from it, you should speak to your doctor as you may need to switch to a different antibiotic. The itching could be the sign of an allergic reaction starting and, if that is the case, they just tend to get worse and worse the longer you take the medication, which could put you in danger. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am 60 yrs old & used BGO since I was a child. I too, cannot find this miracle drug. If this is no longer made, I would like to know if anyone knows of something in stores that works as well. I am desparate. When I get a bug bite, it makes large water blister & my physician says use triple antibiotics & this does not help. Has anyone found something like BGO and if so where? Gerri ## Hi Gerri, How are you? Although this product is no longer available, other users on this site who were also inquiring about it, had mentioned that the ingredients listed on the BGO packaging were as follows: Salicylic Acid + Sulphur + Zinc Oxide + Phenol Calamine + Menthol + Petrolatum + Lanolin + mineral oil. I would just suggest talking to a compounding pharmacy to see if they can reformulate...

I'm 2 weeks pregnant and doctor prescribed me with purbac, will it harm my baby? ## Hi Thandeka! If your doctor knows you're pregnant and prescribed this medication, then it should be safe to take. If you have any concerns call your doctor. ## No, this is actually not considered safe to take during pregnancy. It has been known to cause fetal harm and some very serious birth defects. If you require an antibiotic, it would be best to speak to your doctor about taking a different one. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I was prescribed this antibiotic after receiving 7 stitches, one was internal. ( I was cutting raw meat) Anyway, two days later I had to return to the ER with severe headache, nausea, fever, chills, sweats, flu like symptoms. After several tests diagnosis...Viral Syndrome. I have been sick for five days. No one else in the family is sick, I looked up the side affects of this medication today, and it had all these symptoms on the list. I have never been so sick in my life. ## Sorry about how miserable you are. Yes, you could be having a hypersensitivity reaction to the Bactrim, I'm not a doctor to say for sure, but if you search this site, you'll read posts from many others that have experienced similar problems. I have also had it happen, myself. Similar to you, I went to the ER ...

I am having problems with my balance. When I had this problem 3 - 4 years ago my doctor prescribe a med called Novo-betahistine 16 mg. I have been very tired for a few weeks and I have problems walking straight. I have a few of these meds left can I take one and see if it will help me? ## Hello, Lynn! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the vertigo problem that you're having. If it is several years old, then the medication is most likely no longer effective. Additionally, vertigo can be caused by an infection of the inner ear, so you need to have it checked out and get a prescription for the appropriate medication. You may need an antibiotic. Is there anything else I can help with?

according to her directions and how many pills Im given. I haven't even had the surgeries yet but my pain has been unbearable considering these proven medical problems have been going on for 10+ years. Thank God for OHP, I finally have med insurance, which I hadn't had since 2004. This PCP even knew my old PCP that I had gone to and paying out of my pocket for help with pain management. I was on a 3yr pain contract with old PCP and she was always willing to help with adjusting pain med if they were not helping to keep pain under control. I do not understand why this (younger than me PCP will not even discuss with me about adjusting my pain meds.) She absolutely will not because she says she wouldn't want to have to send me to rehab to get me off of pain pills. Im sorry but W...
