Is it safe to take antacids, and staten medication with nitrofurant macro ## Hi Puba, I haven't come across any specific details notating that you can't use nitrofurantoin with statin medication. However Walgreens' drug monograph for nitrofurantoin strongly advises against taking any type of antacid that contains "magnesium trisilicate" with it. From what I've read, apparently the magnesium can impact how well nitrofurantoin is absorbed. Their statement goes on to mention that you should double check with a pharmacist in order to ensure whether or not a particular antacid has this ingredient prior to purchasing. Did your doctor recommend that all three types of medications be taken together? ## Thank yiu. No my doctor did not mention taking all 3 together. I do h...

Can you drink alcholic beverages while taking this drug? ## Can you drink alcholic beverages while taking sulfameth tmp ds tabs ## There are no dangerous interactions listed, but you should check with your doctor, or pharmacist to be certain. Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, commonly prescribed under the brand name Bactrim, is an antibiotic that is used to treat certain types of infections. And mixing it with alcohol can, however, cause the worsening of some side effects, such as nausea, dizziness and drowsiness. Is there anything else I can help you with? ## Thank you, Verwon. I have Afib and was prescribed amox clav 875 for an upper respertory infection, I was wondering if it was safe to take it. ## Hi deb, According to the FDA, the only contraindications listed for Amoxicllin and Clavulanate Potassium are in patients who have a history of allergic reactions to penicillin, as well as patients with a history of "associated cholestatic jaundice hepatic dysfunction"; neither of which pertain to A-fib in my understanding. And odds are if your doctor prescribed it then you should be fine. However it's always a good idea to ask your doctor for a second opinion before taking anything that you're unsure about. Hope this helps! ## Thanks so much for the info, I feel better knowing that

Will Azithromicina 500 mg work for impacted tooth as well? ## Hi Johnny, From what I could gather, Azithromycin is commonly prescribed for dental related infections. However if the tooth needs to be extracted (perhaps via root canal) due to decay or nerve damage, my understanding is that an antibiotic will only help for so long until you get the necessary procedure(s) done. And to help address your other question about an impacted tooth, Azithromycin fights infections throughout your body and not just one specific area, so it really should cover all basis where an infection is present and not just a single tooth. Have you already gone to the dentist for an evaluation?

How long does it take for dificid to leave my system. when can I retest stool specimen to see if c diff is gone! thank you ## Hi Sandy, According to pbm.va.gov, Fidaxomicin (Dificid) is said to have "poor" bioavailability. It is also reported to have an estimated half life of 10-11 hours. With that said, every 11 hours one can simply divide the dose you took in half, then half of that remaining half, etc at each passing time interval in order to estimate how long that particular dose will be working in your body before being excreted. I don't know how long you've been taking Dificid for, how many doses you've taken, or if each dose cumulatively builds up over time, so those are also factors to take into consideration when determining if the medication is still presen...

is it safe to take an expired persciption of the above medicine? from 2007 ## When it comes to any medication I think it is best to not take any chances with the past expiration date (especially in the event that it is almost 5 years old). They MAY still be ok to take if they haven't been exposed to a high amount of heat or various other conditions outside of the bottle, however I am not a pharmacist or MD, so I cannot guarantee if it is in fact safe for you to consume. There is still a high likelihood that it lost a lot of its potency and may be ineffective to the point where it could harm your body by not doing it's job all the way, per say. This is is most important when it comes to expired antibiotics, because the antibiotic may not kill the infection 100% and therefore can ...

Can bactrim ds 800 160 tab elevate blood pressure for someone who has hypertension but taking meds for that. ## Hi Paula, Based on my research, there have actually been several reports from other patients stating that Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim was the alleged cause of their hypertension. However it appears the manufacturer has failed to list hypertension in their drug monograph as a potential side effect. If you are experiencing such symptoms, my suggestion would be to keep track of and monitor your blood pressure before and after each dose. This way you can show your doctor the effect it's been having with proof over an extended or short period of time. I hope this helps!

I'm taking sulfamethoxazole tmp and phenazopyridine and I'm having a party is it okay to have up to 3 beers? ## princess the alcohol will decrease the efectiveness of the sulfa ## I haven't read anything about alcohol decreasing the effects of Sulfamethoxazole/Tmp... but according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, using the two together has been known to cause serious side effects including but not limited to: a pounding heartbeat, rapid breathing, flushed skin, and increased perspiration (i.e sweating). That said, in my opinion it's probably not worth risking these symptoms for 3 beers. However in the event that you do experience such symptoms from ANY amount of alcohol, Umm.edu recommends that you contact your doctor immediately. I hope this helps!

I will gladly check for you. ## im 15 and about to start a ten day course. idk why gastro prescribed it, I'm worried about the side effects, are they strong... i do not feel like vommiting ## Case, if your gastro prescribed this antibiotic, it might be because they suspect, or have found you to have the H. I have found that the anacardic acids in raw cashew nuts and maybe mangoes do an excellent job of curing an abscess from gram positive bacteria, which are the most prevalent cause of tooth decay and tooth aches. It is conceivable that mango fruits may have sufficient anacardic acids as well. I wrote an article about it, and it is also discussed briefly in the 2006 edition of Medical Hypotheses, 65; 289-292. I would like to urge you to explore making these medicines available in the pure form from pharmacies. This would be especially valuable since these medicines would probably prove to be valuable against other gram positive diseases such as acne, leprosy, streptococci, Chlamydia trachomatis, and maybe even tuberculosis as well. Sincerely, Charles W.

Can I take Penicillin VK 500mg and Mucinex D along with my Methadone? I'm afraid it may cause breathing problems and would like some clarification. ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? I didn't find any interactions listed between the Penicillin and the Methadone, but there may be issues if you take the Mucinex D, since it contains Pseudoephedrine, which works like a stimulant and the Methadone is a depressant, so you should check with your doctor, before combining those. Penicillin is an antibiotic and according to the FDA, it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. [1] Mucinex-D is listed as containing Guaifenesin and Pseudoephedrine, it is used to alleviate congestion. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, in...

I am self medicating with these 2 yr.old tablets that were given for my now deceased husband. I am on oxygen full time and for the past week, my breathing has gotten worse and I have pain in my right ear. I decided to cut out all of my herbal pills for eyesight and hair etc. to see if that was the cause. I still have shortness of breath. I figure I might have an infection going on so I am trying the Bactrim to see if that helps. I take a half pill a day of Digoxin - very low dosage. I have only taken one Bactrim, but so far, so good. how should i take ampicilina mexapin 500, with or without food? will it haelp if i take it with food to help with upset tummy? ## Hello, Dee! How are you? The FDA lists Ampicillin as an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of bacterial infections. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. You can take it with food, if it causes nausea, but dairy foods can sometimes affect the absorption of antibiotics, so you should avoid them at least 2 hours before and 4 hours after taking it. just wondering if on day 5 its ok to drink beer once in awhile ## Hello, Ma! How are you? It is best to abstain from alcohol, when taking any prescription medication. If you read the information provided by the FDA, it can worsen the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual. It can make one drink affect you the same as if you'd had 2 and so on. However, if your doctor okays your indulgence, then please make sure that you won't be driving or operating any dangerous machinery. Is there anything else I can help with?

IS IT SAFE TO TAKE AMOXICILLIN IF IT IS 4 YEARS OLD ## Hello, Jane! How are you? If it's that old, it would be best to just dispose of it. Medications lose effectiveness over time and with an antibiotic, that can create the risk of it not properly eradicating the bacteria, which could then develop antibiotic resistance. If you need an antibiotic, it would be best to get a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Is it safe to take clarithromycin if it expired 2 months ago.
